  • How do you run all those trains off of (3) 180W Bricks........I have (2) bricks and I'm having trouble running (2) of the Lionel Hybrid ES44's in a lash up. There must be something I'm missing here, any advice you could provide would be appreciated. Also how do you have all your transformers in one location on the layout? Do you not have to have them spaced out every 20 feet or so?

  • @SirSebaztian Are you trying to run those engines conventionally or using Lionel's Legacy control system?

  • I just ordered an MTH AIU to add to my layout so this was very informative. The i-pod is a great idea too. Thank you for sharing all the info and your layout.

  • how much does the remote control cost cause i may want so i can walk around while controlling my trains.

  • you know what i would do, i would buy a undecorated boxcar and build the inside of it into sound you know like take apart a old engine and sever the sound system and put it into the boxcar. then paint the boxcar into a music boxcar and music thourgh it.

  • i have the same train clock on my wall

  • Has ur cat ever been hit by a train

  • grate job also the subway would be relay cool to see if you do it

  • dont the cats knock them of the track?

  • you should try a z 4000 or two...

  • I love the Z4000's, but I think they would be overkill. I don't need to vary to voltage to track at all, so all the handles and buttons on a Z4000 would go to waste. I just need a constant 18v of power to the track, which is what the Lionel Powerhouse bricks are made for.

  • what is the name of the video

  • Do a youtube search for "MTH ipod play" and it should be the first video in the results.

  • can u show us haw u use the ipod and can u do that with the tmcc

  • I've already made a video where I play my ipod through an engine. To my knowledge you can't do that with TMCC.

  • can lionel trains run on mth track and vice versa?

  • yes

  • Cool, thanks for reponding.

  • This looks great, I've never seen O scale before, I wish I had something like this in HO scale. I will someday.

  • Nice! Lots of room. I am in the process of doing a 8x20 ft layout in the back of my garage for my son(Polar Express)

  • I love the Rockies so that will probably be my favorite room.

  • you should when it is finished let the public come and see your layout they would like it i bet

  • The layout is open to the public once a year right now.

  • Hello Erick, I wish when you get a chance could you make video on how you hooked up three or four power bricks, to your tracks, their is no mention of it on the DVD or in the owners manual, only say that is the way you shoud do it. They show star pattern wiring, for one power brick but that is it. Thanks for all your past help, Lou.

  • That is the exact same thing that I was thinking about when I saw his other videos.

  • They are called "power districts" and they are really pretty simple to set up. I guess I could make a short video about how to do it though.

  • I have 3 sections of the Atlas O track wired to their own TPC 300 and PowerHouse for TMCC control. I have to check over all the wiring again to integrate DCS successfully.

  • cool vat does it mess up the trains or track at all i may buy a 17 inch union southern pacific

  • i m starting out. and i was woundering where is a good source of info that i could get so i could get started i have a area about 13X13 to play with and i have a idea on a track layout i want. but besides that i have nothing can anyone help thanks.

  • is there dcc or dc in o scale?cus if there is are u dcc or dc?

  • 2-rail O-Scale typically uses dcc.

  • it's catzilla.haha

  • thats some layout

  • Love the layout! Yesterday i was at a local layout, The guy there is running 740 amps! shocked the hell out of myself to! He runs TMCC though.

  • 740 amps? Wow, that's a ton of power for a train layout.

  • haha, thats what i said, he likes to run 8 engine consists

  • play music through the trains??? please explain...

  • MTH engines equipped with the Proto-Sound 2.0 system give you the ability to play music through the engine's speaker. I have my ipod connected to the TIU (Track Interface Unit) and I can then play music through any engine on the layout. I've uploaded a video that demonstrates this.

  • awesome... never heard about that feature... and thanks for the reply...

  • Yeah, it's nice. Like I said, if you look through my videos there's one of me using that feature. I tried to put the link here, but it wouldn't let me.

  • Thank you for sharing your layout. It is terrific and looks like a lot of fun to operate

  • thats going to be one hell of a layout.good looking bench work.

  • Can you run any of the trains?

  • Of course. I've got other videos on my YouTube profile of some running trains. I also intend on mounting a video camera onto the head of a train and running it all the way around the layout once I've got the full loop complete. That will be in a few weeks.

  • are you using and of those Atlas Double Slip Switches? If so...can an approaching train go either way no matter which track its on?

  • No, I'm not use a double slip switch.

  • Looking good...I watched both parts. Its obvious you have a "vision"...can I suggest an MTH Z-4000?...that would eliminate all those bricks and free up your ampmeter. You could then use those bricks for street lighting or yard lighting.

  • Yeah, I've thought about getting a Z-4000. It's 400 watts, right? Is that 200 per channel or how does that work. I think I would need 2 Z-4000's since they only have 2 channels, right?

  • Its 400 watts and I do believe that combines the 2 variable channels (or circuits)and the 2 steady voltage sets. They are 10 and 14 volts...I use the 10 volt for the turntable. The total amperage escapes me right now...not sure. I have run 4 engines at one time and got 8 amps + or -

  • If there is a short on one channel, does it trip the entire transformer or just that channel?

  • since the 2 channels are a COMBINED 180 VA's, I think a short on one would trip both...and as an electrician, I wouldn't want it any other way

  • Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that aspect. If I use seperate bricks for each power district, i can have isolated short that doesn't shut down the entire layout.

  • very nice

  • Great video!!!!!
