Too bad this poor guy had a substance abuse problem bc he really was great!! It is amazing some of the things he did on the guitar no wonder Chet Atkins admired him so much. It is interesting how each great guitarist brings something unique and wonderful to music. I'd say this Lenny guy has to be rated as one of the all time greats, especially since he played all styles and used so many techniques (jazz, flamenco, classical, country, cajun). I know of no who plays like this today.
I love the Mel Bay book Lenny mentions at about .40 sec. in - John Knowles, thank you for helping him get that piece of his life and music out there for we who love Lenny & his playing.
In the late 70's Lenny used to gig up in the Lewiston Maine area on Mondays. This bass player put me on to him , and I discovered this friggin genius playing for a bunch of lowbrow types. It proved to me that gold can be found almost anywhere.
Lenny and Hal Lone Pinespent alot of time with us in the early days of sawdust fairs here in the Maritimes. I miss Lenny especially his fun ways and appetite for Bud Stephen's spagetti and Lebanese food ;the fun jams with local players.
I got to stay with Lenny for a time in Nashville. I never once heard him play a bad phrase. ...To hang out with him, you'd think he was just another guy, tring to get it together. He may have had some problems, but he was never less than superb toward me. Hardly a day passes that I do not miss him.
bopplayer your right but alot of people give their opinions and the next thing you know people are posting comments back and forth. Maybe youtube shoulb be just complimenting the clips they are watching.mastercollector
Its not opinions that are the problem, its when people try to argue stuff is better than other stuff, and qualify what they say... because you can't its art... and the reason this is awesome is because his playing is honest, and not sullied with ticking boxes, showing off or anything like that. Its raw and beautiful... its ashame so many people who listen to music completely miss the point...
@bopplayer ,,,no dought ,,,each and every musician has their own style and art ,,,and wish people would not be so opinionated and down right pridefull ,,,
@bopplayer No, you compare musicians so that you don't waste too much time 'not missing out' on the beauty of mediocre artists & spend more time 'not missing out' on beauty of great artists. That's how taste evolves towards better quality. Taste is economy & temperance of spiritual energies, a few are lucky enough to be born with this economy (it's also called talent), others have to develop it through comparison & conscious judgment to temper previously conditioned emotional responses.
@bopplayer You're damn right I'm looking to argue. Who the fuck are you to come here pretending to know it all with your new age, hippie bullshit about who's 'hung-up' and the 'beauty' of each artist? And don't you call people you don't even know 'douchebag' for expressing their opinion. Take your non-judgmental crap & shove it up your mother's whore ass punk while you're playing 'bop' and shooting up that heeroyeen! You wanna start insulting people? Well two can play that game.
@metamorphosis67 you are a douche troll because you just admitted you are looking to argue. You are an even bigger douche by throwing mother insults (seriously can't you be more creative??) you are a great artist of internet troll douche baggery..nobody else even compares to you. You forged your own style. To illustrate my point mister D.B I will quote an artist probably beneath your level of DB genius: "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture" -Frank Zappa
@metamorphosis67 First of all, you should listen to best players that you can. It seems like you are defending mediocrity here. I also believe that when players reach a certain level of proficiency, their individual forms of expression cannot be compared. I think that was the meaning behind bopplayers original post. Learning from comparisons & posting them on this post are two seperate issues. Lastly, your response to bopplayers insult was offensive and disrespectful to all that read this post.
@KABRIS1 First off: Go fuck yourself & all others who read this post & when you're done with that get back to your mother again. You wouldn't know mediocrity if it bit your retarded ass. I don't listen to the 'best players' or 'the best masturbators' either. I listen to great musicians & artists only & I sure as shit don't listen to any advice from some patronizing cocksucker like you.
@metamorphosis67 People like you should have their you tube accounts revoked. One thing for sure, you don't have any problem with exposing your idiocy.

sensfan72 Django was great but not as good as Lenny Breau, Scotty Anderson, and Wes Montgomery. And the most thrilling and spectacular player ever was easily Danny gatton; period!!!!! mastercollector
So Lenny used fishing line for strings. Wow! So that's where I've been messing up. This is just wonderful, thanks for saving and posting it.....just awesome

sublime. Lenny did so many TV appearances over the years but the tapes are long gone. Thank god that the rare ones like this still exist.
