I don't know what to think about his resonance. The harmonics I hear are those of perfect placement, but the tone is quite unique. It's a strangely attractive instrument.
Tone is covered and in the back of his throat. If this fine gentleman were taught how to project the tone, he would be outstanding because of his natural instrument. He should listen to Mark Reizen, Andresen, and Pinza
The greatest artists, Velasquez and Rembrandt, were noted for their religious works, They did not require "vocal" soul since their reverence was obvious. Listen to RICHARD CROOKS on YOU TUBE sing THE HOLY CITY. THAT is a LESSON that "NO VOICE (?) TEACHER" TODAY can duplicate. Degrees mean nothing
Dear 796824, As I listened to Richard Crooks I could "see" the story unfold as he interpreted it. That, I believe, is what an artist hopes to accomplish--to make his song real. Thank you. I appreciate that we can communicate on YouTube.
HA! you have absolutely Nesuun idea! I've seen Morris live, and with Deborah Voigt to boot, and he projected more and resonates more than any singer I've ever heard live. It was truly INSANE!!!
Just so happens he is the most heralded operatic bass in the last 5 years, check out his King in Aida, great acclaim including his Met debut. You missed the mark with your assessment of this one.
@796824 The people who posted above me are correct; I heard Mr. Robinson sing Fasolt at LA Opera, and his projection was phenomenal. As an audio engineer, it would be my guess that his proximity to the microphone in this recording is making his voice sound more "covered" than it actually is. The darkness of his tone is very natural and rich in person.
Great voice, but much of the tone is swallowed in the upper register. And the opening sounds like R&B. Stick to your operatic technique, Morris. You don't need to apologize for being blessed with such a voice!
This song speaks to every Christians heart, the truth and fact that we will be in Heaven one day,if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and ask Him to come into your heart you will be saved. There is no better life than to have the true God as your loving Father. Thank you Morris for your wonderful song.
I do not think that the "Good Lord" would want me, I have strayed so many times,
I know the "Good Lord" forgives, but how many times does he forgive?

Isn't this the same tune as Dvorak's Largo in "The New World?" If so, which came first?
sobefobik 1 year ago
@sobefobik
Yes it is - Dvorak composed this tune initially and it was adopted as a piece for voice in the early 20th century.

I can't believe that pastor called them "negro spirituals." I believe that they are referred to as simply spirituals now.
