  • @alohakikadude: and theres no hate towards the video. ive been dancing hula, polynesian and tahitian for almost 6 years so im sure i know right from wrong when judging on this video, REGARDLESS if her instructor was around. she wouldnt need one by her side anyway if she knew what she was doing. again, NOOO HATE. but you need to know what you say before someone schools you at it, even though your name is "alohakikadude". jussst saying :D

  • @alohakikadude: there is a difference between tahitian and polynesian history, but dance wise is pretty much the same. american tradition really has nothing to do with it since its called "polynesian and tahitian history."

and last but not least, its obvious my name isnt tahitian?! it clearly says that on my profile name. idk what your reading or thinking, but that should have been clear the first time i commented.

  • @alohahakikadude: first of all, you dont need to be born a certain year to know what the history is about and how to dance it. second, what does sewing machines or looms have to do with anything? im an islander myself, born and raised. we still dont need either one to this day because everything she is wearing is and most likely always will be handmade. if it was handmade since the "1700s," last i checked they were still handmade. third, no one is dividing the dancers to anything?

  • I love how none of us who comment were born in the 1700's, yet several of the commentators here act like they are experts on kahiko or ancient (original) movements. Firstly, there were no sewing machines or looms available to the Islanders.

Secondly, the young lady's Instructor is right there.

So quit hating, and stop dividing the dancers. The American tradition of telling people what to do is just about over.

  • LMAO. The dance is good.

Christy Ann Tudela, your name isn't Tahitian either.

  • this is tahitian... but its VERY VERY VERY traditional and was taught a long time ago. i know this because my halau is teaching this to my class now. so dont say it isnt tahitian. just dig deeper into the culture....

  • 34 jealous. Big up from French West Indies. Love Dom Tom <3

  • seen way better

  • Bad :|

  • @Loli3M

bet you cant do better (: lmao i bet you suck

  • very nice dance, thks for sharing!!!!

  • this dance is from another island Les australes,....part of french Polynesia... not bad at all... just the costume is not so the business but she does know how to dance no comment about it....

  • what the hellllll!!!!! lmao that aint tahitian faaaaashizzzz.. just saying

  • @christyanntudela thanks for your explanation, it shows that he knows enough of the subject.

  • Excellent. Very good moves.

  • To each his own. I liked it.

  • Meh, this is okay, but you like more like a stripper or pole dancer. Especially 'cause you keep flashing your underwear. If you competed at a big competition in So Cal you'd have been disqualified. Also, near the end it doesn't appear very Tahitian and looks a lot like a pussy cat doll

  • nice body..

  • Danse tahitienne ça ?! Pff

  • @miti2101 pédal!! c la danse de rapa diiote!!!!

  • Wow, must've been hard to dance on the sand, I mean it is already hard as it is to dance tahitian....You danced beautifully, I guess the old fashioned tahitian dancing is finally making its come back, just dance and keep smiling, you're already a beautiful girl!!!

  • In Tahiti solo dancers are never an individual show. They r part of the band, 1 of their best dancers & they have to reflect the theme danced by the group. This is Tamariki Oparo from TuhaaPae islands. Well known for their "crazy dance" : U just let go, forget all the steps & so-called rules & move, goin wild. Every1 just laugh or not.

This is not the way she dances, this is how she's supposed to dance expressing the theme.

  • @AtheaTahiti Ia Orana and mauruuru roa for explaining the way of the ori;) I know many who dance ori in the US, see how it's done in tahiti, they think it's vulgar, but thye don't understand that ori is not just a routne to win 1st place like they do in their fete or Heiva, but as a cultural dance, it also tells a story, and when done like that, it's a true tahitian ori;) My favoite dancers are Moena former lead dancer of the Les Grands Ballet, now lead dancer for tumata's Tahiti Ora;D

  • You guys this is Tahiti where it all began. I bet they know what there doing...they do not dance the knock-off tahitian that we dance here on the island or the mainland, so what she had panties that showed my mor'e fell off! check out the real vids from Tahiti they all dance the same!

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS???!! This looks like some weird ass fusion of Tahitian and African dancing lol. Not pretty at all!

  • @zcretangel if u dance ori ur self, u should know how to respect the ori, and the dancer, wether it's not ur cup of tea or not! I know u guys dance differently in the US, but no need to be rude!

  • @Gille87 sorry didn't mean to be rude. I do dance Tahitian in the US but my instructor is actually a Tahitian Tia rauti. He was raised and taught in Tahiti so he is legit. Not only is he teaching us the dance but also the language, music and just the culture in general. So I know what Tahitian is supposed to look like & at 1:22 & on it looks like some other dance. And never once did I insult the dancer! This girl can move no doubt about it but she is definitely not dancing w/ proper technique.

  • @zcretangel Ia Orana;) I'm glad u replied, it shows ur a good person! And I understand ur point of view and where ur coming from...the thing is, what is really proper ori? the dance has evolved a lot since our grandmothers time, and the conservatory put names to different moves and that they should be done in a certain way, but every part of Tahiti has it's own names on the movements, so it depends on where ur from;)

  • @Gille87 we have also those who are ''traditionalists'' and those who believe that a dancer is not limited to rules, but are free to express them selves the way they want, bc besides being a cultural dance it's still art, and since pre-colonial time, they dance to tell a story what they wanted to tell the viewers;) That's what I love about this dance, even though there are ''rules'' on what's proper, there are always room for new movements, and new ways of expression!

  • @Gille87 true true. I know how you feel :) I love this dancing because it makes me feel beautiful and I also get to be creative. And Im glad you can see where im coming from because that shows that you are a reasonable person and those are hard to come by lol. :)

  • @zcretangel I've had my shares of fights and arguments here on YT, and I know how easily it is to be misunderstood or seen as rude...and since it's the Internet people don't care, and are much more evil than they'd be if they would talk to u face to face, most of them haters are hidden behind a screen lol I hate when I know people are wrong and u try to convince them other vise, not easy XD btw what's ur kumu's name?? ^^

  • quel belle femme

  • Comments?

  • her fa'rapus aren't very fast. she should work on them. but she's good for the most part accept for the fact that she should work on her leg muscles a little more cause she got stuck when she went down.

  • shudv wore a g-string

  • thats sooo frikkeen bad

  • looks like she is doing some californai surf dance not tamure and she gets really winded at the end

  • sublime

  • why couldnt u wea something black under ur pareu... ... u can see ur piripou man.... farowt

  • @caesalina

    u stupid o what

  • @gicleeartist

me stupid kare.... wot its tru pro dancers wea same colour undiez as thr pareu....

fa r u stupid or wot....

    toe tunga e koe

  • In addition, creation is highly valued in Tahiti, so you almost always see something new in each Heiva! There are so many times when I thought "dude, I didn't know you could do that!" Also, one should remember that it is EXTREMELY difficult to dance Tahitian on sand. Another thing, after watching their performance at the Heiva, we stopped at the Roulotte in Vaiete and saw the announcer.

  • He said that this group was brought by a government ship to compete in the Heiva...it took them 5 days to get there!!! Talk about dedication!! And they were simply stunning!! Natural, energetic, beautiful!! We've been fortunate to have one of their drummers stop in our studio on his way to teaching at a university here, and he is amaaaazing!!!!

  • and also, the poor girls bright whites are showing and I'm not talking about teeth, but I've had friends come from Tahiti and stock up on the skin colored thongs and undies. And that's Tahiti where they have the big stores...I can only imagine this girls island! They must be lucky to even have bright white. okay i'll stop...i know...finally huh

  • @hinahere All south america, specially Cubans and Brazilians can do better than that !!!!!

  • this is tamariki oparo...they won 2nd place in the biggest Heiva i Tahiti of all time, 2009. This style is reflective of their theme, it had something to do with being converted from so-called savages...hence, the wild untrained style. In Tahitian, there are times when one dances with their feet apart.

  • a tahi raa hio tona Culotte

  • @hamaguchikoki offre lui un pareo ,

  • @hamaguchikoki ua'uuuuu roa o'e!!!!! pétéaaaaaaaa poro hu'a!!!

  • umm her burns arent really good.. shes suppost to keep her legs together and get lower to make the burn look bigger. she looks like shes struggling a little bit.. bt its not that bad and her pereo is a bit to short.. shes okay tho

  • shes good! wow, im very impressed!

  • how com she has a different kind or skirt??

  • In the old days, it was no panties...LOL...get over it, sheesh. I bet none of you panty whiners are Tahitian.

  • Wow, I feel kind of awful cuz I never saw panties before. Thank you for pointing that out, OnoLisHwaHiNe. I usually wear SpongeBob underroos.

  • what she probably would get scoldings about from her ra'atira would be how she tied her pareo, she should of been more mindful of that.

  • She should wear black undies, and not white, everybody knows this!

  • @Gille87

Same comment i left on OnoLisHwahine is for you also.

  • @yannahz7 lol don't really care! ;)

  • looks like we got scoldings. geeze.

  • OH NO. u can see her panty! and u can fully see that pink panty in the end. thats horrible!

  • @OnoLisHwaHiNe

hey at least she is wearing panty, cuz for all i know dis vahine is roots and culture commin at u hard, wen comes to dancing panty is da last thing on their minds,

  • k i'm not sure wat ur saying but i wasnt tryna be mean about it, i just feel bad for her cause you can see it big time and the camera's close up on her, i kno if she seen this video she'd be pissed at who ever put it on.

  • yeah you don't so no worry, when you begin to learn the authenticity of these cultures you'll see that they don't fret on things like this, as you can also see she is wearngNO make-up. they don't worry about the minor details....it's all about dancing roots and culture. ya dig?

  • k now ur just iritating me. i didnt kno what u were saying because what u wrote made no sense, like u dont kno how to spell in english or something, not cause i'm ignorant to the curlture. I'm hawaiian which is in the same boat as tahitian; both polynesian. when i dance tahitian or hula i dont wear make up either but when u have a video on youtube for the whole damn world to see, ur panty plasterd all over the camera matters!

  • @yannahz7 so u say that one should look like crap just bc it's a cultural dance? ever heard about natural makeup?? U cans till where make up, but not looking like ur going out! And u never see different colored undies with groups like Tahiti Ora, Tamariki Poerani etc!
