The song is great, but solist isn't. Especially at the beginning. She has problems with low tones and the beginnings of each phrase. The real feeling for the song seems to be missing and she doesn't bind the longer phrases but stops inbetween.
Howard shore, God has given you a rare gift. This music will be counted greater than the compossers of yore someday. It is as if you heard the music of heaven and brought it to earth for us mortals to enjoy. Thanks... And thanks to Peter Jackson for having the wisdom to choose you.
I was watching a similar orcherstra in the Gasteig concert hall in munich. I liked that as well as I like this orchestra from the video, lord of the rings ist just my favorite!
And because I'm just learning swedish I add: mycket bra denna orkester ;)
Thanks for all the comments. please keep in mind that this was recorded on a mobile phone and the sound quality of the recording is therefor compromised.
@ellesar19 I think of the Grey Havens, and the Parting of the Fellowship, and Enya... Oh, I'm only getting started on the list of songs for my funeral party.
@mydogspet let me tell you my grandpa was huge tolkien fan and the last night i was with him he asked me to put him this song..it was like his way to saYing me goodbye...everytime i heAR that soNg i remember him and cry but i also smile because he was happy ..the next morning we went to woke him up and he already passed away anh look so peaceful. R.I.P grandpa!!!! T.T

@ironman4ever12 We had the Riders of Rohan played for us by this very Symphony when we came back from our last tour to Helmand Province Afghanistan...the most dangerous part of Afghanistan and only us British are there...was stirring to hear it being played as we stepped off of the C-130's at RAF Brize Norton..im a British Royal Marine Commando with 42nd Commando
Home comings are moving moments, even more so when set to such a piece. When I came home from my final tour in Iraq it was to track 17 of "Return of the King" but for me it was in my ears, my head, and inside.
It's rare when life truly imitates art, but soldiers/marines/sailors--we live storied lives. Not all stories are happy or heroic, but all are worth remembering.
It's beutiful music, but I think the lotr version of Johan de Meij is much better. Theres an individual piece for Gandalf, Lothlorien, Gollum, Mines of Moria and the hobbits and its such very good music. They should've used that music for the movie ;)
I know that..... you understand bad.. i said that the two composers are the best in the world of the movies... the both are the best composers... I don´t said that this piece is from john williams.. just i said that I like john and howard and both are the best composers..... jezzzz
I was in the choir and I must agree with XxMasterHunterxX, Shore was rather hard to follow as a conductor. This said, I still think he writes amazing pieces!
This interpretation captures the mysticism and reverence that is part of the magic of the High Elves. Indeed it makes me "dream of the ones whom came before", as I "hear them calling from a distant shore".
It has always been a dream of mine to play in an orchestra like this. They're amazing; the sound is tremendous. I'm so used to the sound of Annie Lenox's voice singing this song that this woman sounded really weird at first. I have to admit; her sound is really different, but it just gives it another feel. It's still amazing, but in an alternate way. They're both really great.
Fast det var fett med jobbigt på Gollum's song ... just eftersom att den är skriven till hennes röst som gör den i originalet, det blir liksom fel när någon annan sjunger den på något annat eget sätt.
I jsut don't know why I cry when I hear this song..

@BrassKate This version's ok, but I agree, Annie is better. Her voice has a particular grating edge to it that gives the song a sense of loss.

I have, but those only have 'annotated scores', which means commentaries on the pieces.
