  • I have not heard this since my CD set "Doctor Demento's Mementos" vanished!

Song had been mentioned between 'Momma Whippoorwill' and 'Walter' via CB radio years ago.

It was not until I bought that CD set did I know what they were speaking about.

A cute song that I enjoy hearing!

    Thanks for the upload.

  • "Hokey" Carmichael! Some good old hick town and country musique.

  • I remember hearing this song on my parent's record player. It was a 78 RPM record and they used to play it a lot. Memories! Thanks for this.

  • My Step-dad had this record when I was a young child--My Mom passed away in 1959 and I never was able to hear this song again as my step-dad sort of disappeared after that---but, low and behold--here it is--I always thought it was a funny song--but, then remember I was about 7 when I first heard it--not too PC. Anyway, glad to find it---

  • Ya gotta love old fashioned songs! This one should probably be modernized, considering the rising obesity rates. :D

  • great song - - - terrible pictures !

  • My Grandpa used to always sing this song! However, he got Alzheimer's disease (you cant remember anything) in 2001 and passed away last year. I have never been able to find this song because i never knew the name.

(If you're wondering why my username is joebacon, I am using my little brother's account. My name is Maddy)

  • Why the fallout theme with this song?

  • you know the big ones will do way more stuff...right Boogie?

  • how can you have used the fallout concept for such a jolly song?...disconnect...

  • I've known this song by performed by a different artist... I never knew it was written by H.C. ... I like this version better. nothing tops the original.

  • I am about the size he sings about and I think this is hysterical!

It is affectionate and not mean spirited or judgmental like so much modern talk about fat people is.

  • Lets give it up for fat girls.

  • What a great song! I was listening to a classic radio station on iTunes and this came on. I loved it so much I Googled some of the words and found out what it was called and then found it here! The wonders of modern science.. :-) I love completely wrong, non politically-correct stuff like this.. I'm sure we are going backwards with all our stupid attempts to never call a spade a spade.. Damn! Can I say "spade" now? ;-)

  • LOOVE this song... my dad used to sing this song to us girls... "over the mountain" was at a pause for dramatic affect. Such great memories :)

  • @rebuildNOLA2008 My dad won a talent contest singing this, and added a few lines there

'He was exhausted - comin' 'round the other side

'He had a road-map! - comin' 'round the other side

  • in the late 70's a local band called Ukiah played this at Carlos O'Briens in Riverside, Ca and had a album with the song on the LP. I performed it in sign language back then as a encore to winning the talent night.

  • I heard about this song on Frosty Heidi and Frank LOL

  • These lyrics are lulz. I am shocked he could get away with a song like this in 1940s. Imagine the protest today if a song about a fat girl came out now.

  • I absolutely LOVE this song! Have known it since I was a kid.

Played it for my husband who had never heard it... he about busted a gut laughing! Told him I better not catch him with any chalk around me!!!! LOL!

  • I hope this is one of the songs in the Smithsonian Collection, and if it's not, it should be.

  • Wow, haven't heard this song since the early 50's! Yeah, our boyfriends used to sing it and we had a ball.

Now the song still puts a smile on my face!

Hoagy (the composer) is the one who gave us 'Stardust' and 'Ole Buttermilk Sky', don't you forget!

  • Love this song.

  • Hahahahahaha, wow, this is an odd song

  • I just wanted to hear this song again...

  • check out Earl Okin doin this song...WICKED!!!

  • Comment removed

  • o_O Well then........ Hoagy and Fallout are genius in their own right, and I take it you've never played any of the Fallout games including the the third shown above. The concept art was neither created with Play-Doh nor Adobe Photoshop.

  • lmao Play doh

  • FAKE!!!!!! Chalk doesn't even work that good. A sharpie marker works better. I tried it on this huge chick once

  • my grandpa use 2 sing me this song

  • I love this song!
