  • COME TO SCOTLAND !, LAND OF BRAVEHEART. WILLIAM WALLACE , KNIGHT OF ELDERSLIE .

  • Its crazy to think I'm from there I've only been there twice since me moved to MINNESOTA of all places tons of snow haha what a beautiful place merida is

  • My beautiful merida

  • hows the crimw? anyone

  • The place looks exactly like Nuevo Laredo which I visited briefly when I walked across the border from Laredo. Very hustling and bustling but you have to watch for the crazy drivers when you cross the streets. They don't seem to stop at intersections! Believe it or not, I saw a brand new Ferrari Testerosa parked along one of the side streets. Wonder who owned it ad how he got the money?

  • @abdiver12 I have a feeling that you had drug dealers in your mind, but in Mexico there is a loooooot of very wealthy families that they are an old money and they own buissneses. It is like everywhere else ! If you see a wealthy american or canadian ,do you ask the same question ,or wright away you think about them having a buissness or a good job ! The rich mexicans do not go to the USA to work as landscapers or dish washers, they hire maids, gardneres and chauffeurs on their own !

  • im in merida right now

  • My wife and I just got back from there last week and love the Grand Plaza!!! So much life, energy and fun... We stayed at the Hotel Caribe just up a block in Hildalgo Park... Loved every minute of this beautiful city!!!

  • very nice city , Kaveh jan Share ghashangi dari:-)

  • haha trees are painted white because of the ants, it keeps them away, there are no rats living on those trees i proimes.

Kisses...Bye...

  • omg! i was born in merida! ^-^

    in 1995! im 13!

    oh yeah, MEXiCAN, BABY!!!!

  • I love Merida. It's a great city.

I was there in December and it was 85 degrees F and up. I'll bet April is really hot. I'm from Detroit, not used to that sort of weather.

  • Yeah, we're from Toronto so we're not used to the hot weather either. I'd say the temperature was in the low 90s F for most of the trip (but since we're Canadian we think of it as mid-30s Celsius, eh?) ;)

  • @moviemang actually in some cities that white paint is a pest controller...some of them are just aesthetically placed, but most of them is to control bugs to crawl up trees...

  • @jdajos in May it's hotter

  • @jdajos i agree with you.

  • @jdajos iagree with you

  • @jdajos i agree with you

  • Great City, I live there !!

    Thanks for the video.

  • The lower tree trunks are painted white to prevent rats and mice from climbing them...Rats and mice don't like white because they can be seen by contrast. Rodents are prone to avoid lighted and white areas. Some areas surround the trunks with sheet metal as well, so that rodents can't get a grip. Many rodents live in palm tree tops as well as pigeons and crows.

  • Thanks... although now I'm going to be scared of falling rats!!!

  • Be afraid of falling coconuts! Rats are on the ground, which is where you sleep....! Just joking.

  • funny

  • in order to prevent tree deseases.

  • Throughout Mexico, the lower tree trunks are painted white! Can someone explain to me exactly why?

  • We saw this too but thought it was only Merida since it's "The White City" ... so it's all over Mexico?

  • South to Comitan, east to Cancun, and in Mexico City. I don't know if its done in less humid areas. Protection from insects makes sense, but is it laced with insecticide, or is it plain whitewash/calcimine or lime water? Maybe the color white keeps bugs away?

  • I lived in mexico for three months last year and will be going back this summer. I was driving down a road to a city in the mountains in the state of veracruz with my bf to have lunch at a famous restaurant. The road was tree lined for miles and all white, we finally came up to a guy painting each and every tree! i could not believe this one guy was doing it all by himself. Well my bf informed me that it was for rats so they do not go up in the trees. So i guess it is all over mexico.

  • humid places have many different plagues

  • yes, you're right. it's for prevent insects, ants and others

  • @moviemang simple, because in mexico exist somekind of bug hat eats the interior and dries them, the painting is to avoid that it damages to the tree.

  • they usualy do the for prevent bugs ants and other animals eat roots

  • @moviemang its called the white city because all houses were mostly white, the painting is because of worms or bugs that harm the trees u_u

  • @moviemang Hi, its not just paint it has "cal" and it helps to keep the ants away from the trees.

  • @moviemang It's, as far as I know, all over. I saw it in Tijuana/Rosarito. Gardens are important in Mexican culture, and painting the trees white shows that you care for your garden. And it looks pretty cool, I think :D

  • various times during my mexico visits i heard the paint should protect the trees from insects.saludos desde holanda

  • @RussianAlfonso That's supposedly to protect the lower parts of the tree trunk from the excessive sun and heat by reflecting the light.

  • @RussianAlfonso it's because of worms ;)

  • @RussianAlfonso The white paint helps keep insects out of the tree that may otherwise harm them

  • @RussianAlfonso That "paint" is limestone powder mixed with water and is used to avoid the ants climb the tree to nest or to eat the leaves.

  • @RussianAlfonso well... i'm from merida and i have lived at cancun and there are tree trunks painted in white... is because some trees die because of the ant...and white paint is supposed to keep ants from climbing

  • @RussianAlfonso My friend is a Merida native, according to him it is a combination of the city being known as "The White City", and as an insect repellant.

  • @RussianAlfonso About Merida, Yucatan: The city is also know as the "White City" because so much of it is built with white limestone, painted white to emphasize the grand architecture of the Colonial period, and kept sparkling clean by its inhabitant's.

  • @RussianAlfonso I am from Merida, and this is a to prevent most ants and other insects to eat or kill the trees, I think..that's what I've heard all my life :)

  • Yes this is what Ive always heard. They do it in lots of Meditteranean countries...Temp 42o whilst we are here April 2012. Nice breeze so no problem.

  • @RussianAlfonso It prevents sunburn for the outer layer of the tree trunk, which circulates the water throughout the tree.

  • @RussianAlfonso They are also painted white to keep the insects away that climb the tree from the bottom.

  • @RussianAlfonso I've asked, and you can google it. It's for insects, and to protect from sun damage. It can also prevent the bark from splitting. Animals avoid eating the bark of painted trees as well.

  • @RussianAlfonso Bugs crawl up the tree and eat the leaves.

  • @RussianAlfonso YES. Its not paint. It is a combination of clay, sea salt, and other medication to prevent ants, and other insects from climbing the tree.

  • @RussianAlfonso In India too big trees along the main road are painted with white color - probable reason we know is to make this paint act as reflectors of headlights of automobiles providing safety.

  • @RussianAlfonso lower tree trunks are painted in white (solution called cal = stuco? ) to protect them from bugs, antsetc that eat leafs. thats the only reason and it works! if you travel all around Mexico, trees are protected like that. Merida is a beautiful city!

  • @RussianAlfonso its like a protection for bugs.

  • @RussianAlfonso

I'm from Merida, and asked my father the same question, he said the white paint is to prevent ants from

    climbing up the trees.

  • nice video

  • Thanks, it was a great trip!
