  • no disrespect but kurts sings it better

  • I love the uncertainty and lonesome feel of meat puppets songs.

  • excuse the grammer, as puppets dictate i'm 'way out in the middle'

  • also check out 'rise to your knees'. it;s a much more mature puppets sounds. should you like the album direct your attention to a little know band by the name of Eyes Adrift. you shall be very pleasantly surprised.

  • however good Nirvana were, and please don't misconstrue me in anyway, its a real shame that the only reason that 7 out of 10 people know of the meat puppets is due to them. i know as i am guilty of this myself. in a nut shell as the saying goes, this band needs to be investigated with out the influence of her predecessors'.

  • @indigozim Yeah I see what you're saying. But I'm 29 now and remember hearing the radio playing the hell out of "Backwater". That was in '94-95. The first time I remember hearing Kurt mention them was during their performance with Nirvana on Unplugged. If you're referring to the younger people who listen to Nirvana, then I can see your point.

  • @acemma25 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahah screw you....

  • great song . . . now after 18 years I finally know why Kurt Cobain & Nirvana decided tro cover this when they did the MTV Unplugged show. I had no idea the Meat Puppets original version of this was as psychedelic as it is!!! Love it! :)

  • this band deserves such credit

  • the results are always perfect...but that's old news

  • wish more bands in this generation were this good

  • This version grants fresh air. Nirvana's cover is a little too dusty and the sound is warmer, Don't go over the world making stupid rankings. I like this better, and i don't need to say this is the best.

  • @avijoroscho Oh God! Thanks for saying that. I think so, I listen to meat puppets and to nirvana and I like both. For example, I prefer nirvana's version of plateau but I prefer oh me from meat puppets and I don't say who is better. Sorry if you don't understand me, I'm not very good at English (I'm Spanish).

  • Those people are fucking stupid fuck who compare this with Nirvana's version because they cannot just fucking listen to and enjoy.

  • @paeganmushroom They are both good, there's no need to come on this video and cuss.

  • nirvana covered it better

  • @slashguitar8898 This is not a cover. Original

  • @soundofmusic94 i know nirvana covered it lear how to read

  • @slashguitar8898 not at all. it was a great cover, maybe, but nowhere as good as the original. (i say this as a huge kurt fan)

  • relaxed :D

  • such a great song, great guitar tone and chorus. these guys were great songwriters

  • i like Nirvana's unplugged version more - and it is not only because it's kurt cobain. I just like it more... :-)

  • This is the first time I listen to this song and it just blows me away! Thanks for uploading! :)

  • kurt does a very nice job on the guitar solo. i cant decide which i like.

  • @phyzikal44 Kurt didn't play the guitar solo. On either version.

  • la verdad es mejor la version de kurt cobain

  • Nunac la había escuchado con los @Meat Puppets, pero creo que suena bien, por algo a @Kurt de gustaba

  • This scares me....

    Why so sloppy ??

  • awesome that someone uploaded =)

  • what a powerful song! wuuoah!

    ^_ ^

    seriously nirvana's cover better.

  • @ChibiFruit lol, foolish child

  • @ChibiFruit I love Nirvana, they're one of my favourite bands. But unfortunately, a cover is never better than the original! With the exception of Cash's cover of 'Hurt'

  • @IsaacParrack95 I agree 100%. I love Nirvana too but nobody can touch what the meat puppets laid down on this album.

  • @IsaacParrack95 "a cover is never better than the original" ?? How can you say that, there are millions of songs with covers which beat the original....

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower,

Beatles - Twist and Shout (in fact a whole load of The Beatles early albums were covers,

    Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats,

    Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah,

Gary Jules - Mad World the list goes on. If an artist can recreate a song to a point with their own imprint, it becomes original again in my opinion.

  • @JimJiminiJim With the exception of 'Mad World', I actually disagree with all of those...

  • @JimJiminiJim All Along the Watchtower is the perfect example for that opinion/idea, but I've yet to hear of other examples because you didn't convince me :p

  • @JimJiminiJim I agree covers can be better. But so can the originals and you have to have a certain level of respect for the people who actually wrote the songs. And ah hell no, Mad World by Tears for Fears owns lol

  • @ADHDBasketcase I completely agree with you, I just meant any interpretation of song, original or cover is artistic in it's own right. Haha Tears For Fears FTW then x

  • put repeat after youtube on the url "youtuberepeat"

  • Best version of this song that I've ever heard.

  • so powerful

  • @InerRecords agreed
