Juliet had issues. I guess you can't blame her, having tuberculosis at a young age is awful, but not having your parents there must really be terrible. She obviously had major abandonment and attachment issues. Pauline seemed more naiive. A good girl gone really bad. She seemed sensitive too, so when the two sensitive people met, it was a toxic combo. The poor mother though. She died slowly and painfully, and much more terrible then the movie shows, she was face up the whole time not face down.
i don't understand why everyone thinks this is such an "outstanding" movie. yes they had a beautiful friendship, but it was based on fantasy and insanity, it wasn't real. many people say the focus of the movie is how two seemingly normal teenage girls come to partake in such an unthinkable act, but tbh i think they were crazy from the start.
This was such a fascinating film. It caused a cognitive dissonance in my brain. On one hand, the two girls committed a violent and malicious murder, one which mutilated Pauline's mother and destroyed many lives. On the other hand, the two had such an intense and powerful love for eachother, and were most likely driven to madness, anger and insanity due to the harsh and discriminating world they lived in. You condemn them for what they did, but sympathise with their cause.
This movie is quite disturbing, hence the reason why it got so much attention. It has a dark storyline which can leave you thinking about it for many days to come. Having said all that, it is absolutely amazing. Within it's own genre, the movie is very polished and outstanding.
This is a truly beautiful movie. Their friendship was so lovely. I guess Jackson got it right, as he wanted to create a movie that showed the immense bond between the girls rather than focus on the murder and trials...
Too bad it's near impossible to by it now... Could try eBay i guess
Yes, this is a beautifully MADE movie and yes, Peter Jackson wanted to focus on the relationship between Juliet and Pauline. However, their friendship was dangerous, obsessive and unhealthy - how is that lovely?!! I think you have missed the point...
She didn't just fall.. They hit her with a brick in a stocking numerous amount of times. I did an essay on this and its so interesting there is so much uncovered foreshadowing. I love the movie. And it soo interesting because i have runs where the murder took place ( i live in NZ) and i drive past where Pauline used to live. Its such a goodmovie to watch. I recommend watching it
No, the point is that they didn't think very much of it through. They thought their best solution was to kill her, they were so focussed on that and then I think there was a point (while they were committing the crime) that they realised that they weren't justified and they just weren't going to get away with it. They were hysterical and their alibis just didn't add up and they were arrested very quickly.
The reason why networks stop playing this is because we have enough fucked up teens as it is,why give them another door to choose from when they get depressed.Movies somehow influence the weakest of minds to follow dark and sinister shit like this,I say see on dvd if you want to see it.
This was one of the most insane movies I had ever seen. I saw it when I was about 10-11 years old at my best friends house. This is what got both of us interested in movies outside of the mainstream. Brilliant movie that everyone should see! The two girls should've been ****ing killed!!
That this was made by the same individual who crafted the Hollywood Lord of the Rings trilogy and splatterfests Braindead and Bad Taste is staggering to me.
I live just down the road from Victoria park where this happened in Christchurch New Zealand. I hate going down the walking track where the mother was killed it just makes me feel so cold and horrible.
Interesting. I think lots of (especially older) people will know things about this case, I suppose you've spoken about it? A very interesting thing to know is: is there anything left of the stories and plays the both girls wrote? Was it all destroyed by their families (I could imagine) or the authorities? Are there still things left?
Well I have grown up by victora park, my parents didnt tell me what happened there they just told me there was a famous murder but then I saw this movie a few years ago (Im 14 years now)and every since victoria park has never been the same. Oh and the girl who murdered her mother now runs a horse riding school not far from christchurch.
Thank you, perhaps you will get more information sometime. By the way, I knew about the horse riding school of Pauline, but she lives in Kent (England) now!! She left New Zealand a few years after her prison time was over.
The murder of Honora is probably the most upsetting thing I've seen in years. I love my mum so much.

This movie was so, so, so insanely intriguing. I am usually not one to be actively engaged in movies but I found myself lost in the story.

what i dont get, was that if her mother had fallen, then why were they all covered in blood? they didnt really think the murder through all the way.

...and - I think Juliet's "Please, help us" kind of accentuates that.
