... A quick clarification. You can be a "Ranger" assigned to any of the three stateside Ranger battalions after completed ROP or RIP. After proving yourself at your battalion, via combat or training, you're sent to the Ranger school for your Ranger Tab. Ranger school is a leadership school, by passing it, you are Ranger qualified, not a Ranger. A scrolled Ranger is a Ranger and is assigned to a Ranger unit.
UGH. If you do the Ranger contract you go Basic-Airborne-RIP. Once you complete RIP and you are assigned to a Ranger unit you wear the Tan beret and sport the Ranger tab.
I just notice that stuff. Random Ranger things. You see alot of black berets in there which is slightly odd do to the fact that this is suposed to be a Ranger video and Rangers haven't worn black in a while now.

Actually no they don't! They haven't worn black for years. The people wearing black are airforce and regular army in this video. Look at their uniforms. My boyfriend is an Airborne Ranger With his scroll and tab and is also a SGT and Team Leader. Im around the Rangers nearly everyday and all of them have tan berets. The old Rangers have the black.
Ranger's Black Beret to the Tan Beret on March 15, 2001. No Ranger wears black anymore do to the fact that the others took it over. This pissed off alot of Rangers.
Hmmm then perhaps I should ask my recruiter, who is a "tabbed" Ranger why he has a black beret and not a tan one. He is not "scrolled". which means he hasn't been to Ranger school yet. Or served in one of the 3 Ranger batts. Yet he has the black and gold tab.
The black and gold "tab" means that he completed Ranger School, therefore he is a "Ranger". The scroll means that you are in one of the three Ranger Regiments. Then you get the "tab" to go with the "scroll" once you complete Ranger School. So technically he is a Ranger.
No problem buddy. Yeah... anyone that finishes Ranger School is a full fledged Ranger, just not always part of a Battalion. Sorry I miss spoke up there, I meant to say three Ranger Battalions but it was late and I was looking at where I had written Regiment. One of my best friends was at 2nd Battalion for 7 years, he now flies Longbows. I myself am leaving in June for Benning. fiveo21 below has it exactly right, Basic-Airborne-RIP, 11x contract. When I was in the Swedish Arctic Rangers in 2008 a few American and Canadian commanders and soldiers came to Arvidsjaur to learn arctic warfare (skiing with sleds and fighting on skis etc). Don't want to be mean but they were really crap, they fought in dense forests as if they had tank and air support and were really slow in reaching objectives and every time something unexpected came up they called HQ with their radio in stead of taking the initiative. The USA can't fight in Arctic Climates!!!

the U.S 10th Mountain division are the guys that are great at that shit. keep in mind the ppl that we send there known nothing about the arctic that's why there training.

These people had been training winter warfare in Norway with NATO. Then they came to Arvidsjaur in Swedish Lappland and for some reason US soldiers don't use skies in winter warfare but snow shoes in stead. They had had winter training in Norway but still they sucked. And the US army doctrine made them suck even more because the US take orders only from HQ who often know little about the situation at hand.
If you know arctic survival you know desert and jungle (except poisonous snakes etc)

I mean hell look at the war games for desert training in the 1980's after those games U.S generals said U.S would take heavy losses in Iraq in 1991 only lost 100 ppl. 50 not even to the enemy
I definitely see your pointbut I have a few things to say from my experiences with US soldiers.
1) They have a very centrally run battle thinking. Whereas US soldiers had to get permission from HQ to attack we could just report: "Gap in enemy defense, attacing from point "x"". We learn to take the initiative but the US soldiers are taught to follow orders from people in a warm bunker.
2) We were like Germany during WW2, full of initiative, and NATO was like Germany's enemies, slow but stronger
well if it was all out war it's a differnt story, in Iraq an Afganisatn they need permission to fire inless there taking in coming fire tryto limit civilians getting killed an shit.
also with the U.S in cutting edge tech 90%of the time like in 2003 General Franks guythat led the invasionwas watching ground combat from Satilies so he see's what's going on also.
Look i'm just saying that the command structure of the US army severely weakens it as an effective fighting force. It is just like during WW2, slow and almost forbidding US soldiers to think by themselves. It's quite undeniable.
Sweden has the same technology as the USA, more advanced in some areas, less in others. In my opinion Sweden is severely weakened by the fact that many units need telephone wires to communicate. The US however is more long-term hampered by it's military hierarchy.
Jaruzelska is completely right dogmeat, the army's main problem is they have no small unit leadership. Thats why marines are better, small unit leadership, junior ncos taking initiative. Of course the flipside of this is that in garrison usually they take said initiative to make you push and dumb shit like that.
i got a question about the rangers. if you complete ranger school and get the patch, can you call yourself a ranger or do you actually have to serve with the rangers to do that? apparently this is considered a controversy and its somewhat talked about on wikipedia
Complete Ranger training then ur a Ranger. You become a Ranger but u dont have to deploy with them. Ull still get ur patch and no one can say u never served so ur not a Ranger but u made it thru school so u r one
to me the only real difference between an Army infantryman and a Marine infantryman, assuming the Army Soldier has completed his infantry schooling, is the propaganda. The truth is, both branches preform infantry work better than any other force in the world. They are about on-par. The Marines enjoy their hardcore status. Army boasts airborne, Rangers and the Green Berets. They both fight well, and function well as a team. BTW, girls don't care what branch you are...they just dig uniforms ;)

Well you'd have to do the Army then. I know alot of guys headed to the Marines JUST because they think the Army boot camp is soft, and for the most part it is now a days, but if your interested in infantry, you'd go to Fort Benning which is no joke, OSUT there is about 14 weeks(longer than marines) and is considered right up there with lets say MCRD San Diego.
yea I did 14weeks at FT.Benning, we had a few Marines and came over to the Army and went to Basic with us and said, it was the same training they got in the Marine Corps. Graduated 8Months ago and now Im serving I'm proudly serving In Operation Iraqi Freedom!!!

AF combat controllers are tier one(24th STS, special tactics squadron), although more of a complimentary unit to DEVGRU and CAG they are certainly nothing to sneeze at.....
they are all equally trained. my pick is SAS because they are the ones who started all the special forces and anti terrorism, Also all the training has come from SAS.

tell you school leader in OCS (im assuming you are going to be an officer if you have a degree already) that you want to be a ranger..you will then complete airborne school then ranger school. Hope that helps.
you get an option 40 in your contract. The option 40 is for combat arms who do OSUT at fort benning then jump school then a shot at RIP but thats tough shit theres no guarantee youll make it past RIP. but good luck bro!
are you ROTC? If yes, then you probably are out of luck.. as a commissioned officer you may end up in any MOS (military occupational specialty) as big Army will decide appropriate.
Other then that you get RIP (ranger indoctrination program) in your contract at your local recruiter's office and after that it's up to you if you will make the cut. Ranger School is only after you're Ranger-qualified (meaning after RIP).
But I'm pretty sure halo jump school is only open to SF guys.

I just notice that stuff. Random Ranger things. You see alot of black berets in there which is slightly odd do to the fact that this is suposed to be a Ranger video and Rangers haven't worn black in a while now.

FYI- Rangers that serve in a "Ranger Battalion"(scroll) wear the tan beret. There are Soldiers that are "Ranger" tabbed that are awaiting a trip to Ranger school. They still wear a black beret.

Actually no they don't! They haven't worn black for years. The people wearing black are airforce and regular army in this video. Look at their uniforms. My boyfriend is an Airborne Ranger With his scroll and tab and is also a SGT and Team Leader. Im around the Rangers nearly everyday and all of them have tan berets. The old Rangers have the black.

Ranger's Black Beret to the Tan Beret on March 15, 2001. No Ranger wears black anymore do to the fact that the others took it over. This pissed off alot of Rangers.

Hmmm then perhaps I should ask my recruiter, who is a "tabbed" Ranger why he has a black beret and not a tan one. He is not "scrolled". which means he hasn't been to Ranger school yet. Or served in one of the 3 Ranger batts. Yet he has the black and gold tab.

The black and gold "tab" means that he completed Ranger School, therefore he is a "Ranger". The scroll means that you are in one of the three Ranger Regiments. Then you get the "tab" to go with the "scroll" once you complete Ranger School. So technically he is a Ranger.

No problem buddy. Yeah... anyone that finishes Ranger School is a full fledged Ranger, just not always part of a Battalion. Sorry I miss spoke up there, I meant to say three Ranger Battalions but it was late and I was looking at where I had written Regiment. One of my best friends was at 2nd Battalion for 7 years, he now flies Longbows. I myself am leaving in June for Benning. fiveo21 below has it exactly right, Basic-Airborne-RIP, 11x contract. Rangers Lead the Way!!!

When I was in the Swedish Arctic Rangers in 2008 a few American and Canadian commanders and soldiers came to Arvidsjaur to learn arctic warfare (skiing with sleds and fighting on skis etc). Don't want to be mean but they were really crap, they fought in dense forests as if they had tank and air support and were really slow in reaching objectives and every time something unexpected came up they called HQ with their radio in stead of taking the initiative. The USA can't fight in Arctic Climates!!!

the U.S 10th Mountain division are the guys that are great at that shit. keep in mind the ppl that we send there known nothing about the arctic that's why there training.
if I stuck you out to train in a desert or jungle area your not going to do so well first few times around lol.

These people had been training winter warfare in Norway with NATO. Then they came to Arvidsjaur in Swedish Lappland and for some reason US soldiers don't use skies in winter warfare but snow shoes in stead. They had had winter training in Norway but still they sucked. And the US army doctrine made them suck even more because the US take orders only from HQ who often know little about the situation at hand.
If you know arctic survival you know desert and jungle (except poisonous snakes etc)

the HQ trying out stuff. hell a lot of times U.S soldiers in war games will loose cause they are restricted to areas an the commanders are trying stuff.
I mean hell look at the war games for desert training in the 1980's after those games U.S generals said U.S would take heavy losses in Iraq in 1991 only lost 100 ppl. 50 not even to the enemy

I definitely see your pointbut I have a few things to say from my experiences with US soldiers.
1) They have a very centrally run battle thinking. Whereas US soldiers had to get permission from HQ to attack we could just report: "Gap in enemy defense, attacing from point "x"". We learn to take the initiative but the US soldiers are taught to follow orders from people in a warm bunker.
2) We were like Germany during WW2, full of initiative, and NATO was like Germany's enemies, slow but stronger

Look i'm just saying that the command structure of the US army severely weakens it as an effective fighting force. It is just like during WW2, slow and almost forbidding US soldiers to think by themselves. It's quite undeniable.
Sweden has the same technology as the USA, more advanced in some areas, less in others. In my opinion Sweden is severely weakened by the fact that many units need telephone wires to communicate. The US however is more long-term hampered by it's military hierarchy.

Jaruzelska is completely right dogmeat, the army's main problem is they have no small unit leadership. Thats why marines are better, small unit leadership, junior ncos taking initiative. Of course the flipside of this is that in garrison usually they take said initiative to make you push and dumb shit like that.

to me the only real difference between an Army infantryman and a Marine infantryman, assuming the Army Soldier has completed his infantry schooling, is the propaganda. The truth is, both branches preform infantry work better than any other force in the world. They are about on-par. The Marines enjoy their hardcore status. Army boasts airborne, Rangers and the Green Berets. They both fight well, and function well as a team. BTW, girls don't care what branch you are...they just dig uniforms ;)

Well you'd have to do the Army then. I know alot of guys headed to the Marines JUST because they think the Army boot camp is soft, and for the most part it is now a days, but if your interested in infantry, you'd go to Fort Benning which is no joke, OSUT there is about 14 weeks(longer than marines) and is considered right up there with lets say MCRD San Diego.

yea I did 14weeks at FT.Benning, we had a few Marines and came over to the Army and went to Basic with us and said, it was the same training they got in the Marine Corps. Graduated 8Months ago and now Im serving I'm proudly serving In Operation Iraqi Freedom!!!

TIER 1 (SMUs): CAG(army), ISA(x), DEVGRU(navy), 24th STS(AF)
TIER 2 (CSFs): SF (army), SEALs(navy), 2 EOD(navy)
TIER 3 (SOF): Rangers(army), SWCC(navy), 160SOAR(army),MARSOC(MC),4th POG+95thCAB(army), a shit ton of AF units.

tell you school leader in OCS (im assuming you are going to be an officer if you have a degree already) that you want to be a ranger..you will then complete airborne school then ranger school. Hope that helps.

you get an option 40 in your contract. The option 40 is for combat arms who do OSUT at fort benning then jump school then a shot at RIP but thats tough shit theres no guarantee youll make it past RIP. but good luck bro!

are you ROTC? If yes, then you probably are out of luck.. as a commissioned officer you may end up in any MOS (military occupational specialty) as big Army will decide appropriate.

Other then that you get RIP (ranger indoctrination program) in your contract at your local recruiter's office and after that it's up to you if you will make the cut. Ranger School is only after you're Ranger-qualified (meaning after RIP).
