@flexyldy Because the japanese version of SMB2 is not the same as the western version, so when they released "our" version in Japan they called it SMB2 USA
Man I want a famicom SO BADLY! I have a bootleg chinese one (known as a famiclone) that was made to look like an Xbox 360. Not joking. It was cheap so I took it apart. Ah, the birth of video games. Who would have thought that a pixelated, jumping square could become a.....Italian plumber who now is 3-D or, a protecter of the Twili, and even a Brawl star who has a WORSE BOW THAN LINK!!!!!
Famicom (short for family computer) was nintendo's first system, they eventually released it in the united states under the name "Nintendo Entertainment System" (NES)
They are almost identical in except for the fact that the famicom has a different look, better sound and an optional disk drive add on.
Actually the Famicom is not the first game console released by Nintendo. They had a few Pong/Odyssey style consoles called the Color TV Game, released in 1977. They had pre-programmed games and had knobs for controller input just like a Pong console. They weren't released outside of Japan though.
Game and Watch was a series of handheld consoles starting in 1980 and going all the way until 1991, predating the Famicom by three years.
@brtshstel I still have my double screen game & watch. Maybe that's where Nintendo got their idea for their DS, from their game & watch series: Donkey Kong DS, Oil Panic DS, Green House DS. I also still have my Mario Brothers DS which opens like a book, unlike the other ones.
Really? That's amazing. I would love to have an original Game and Watch. Those things are relics these days, especially the double-screen version. Nintendo paid much homage to the NES with the Nintendo 64, and the DS is now doing the same with the dual-screen Game and Watch.
Christ, does anyone read their comments before posting? Half of these comment sound illiterate.
Nintendo's original Super Mario Bros 2 was a direct sequel of the first SMB, with more challenging levels, and a few graphical changes.
Nintendo decided that the game was too challenging for American, and released one of their Disk games "Doki Doki Panic!" as Super Mario Bros 2 in the US by replacing the character sprites.
We know the true SMB2 as "The Lost Levels", and they know our SMB2 as "USA".
@wocko1 Yeah, though there were chinese copies of the Famicom on sale in western countries. I had one called Family Games, so it's kinda a Famigam/Famigame.
Shin Oni Ga Shima looks like a hard game, and it also looks like it was very hard to program, considering the game uses vertical writing instead of horizontal like in most games.
but there's a modem, a disk system, a keyboard with basic, and there was even a microphone in the controler, so the Famicom had a LOT more features than the NES.
yeah. i know a lot of game systems and computers in the 80s were gray or beige, but the red and white in the Famicom is better than the greys in the NES. plus, the controllers too had more cheery colors than the NES had.
For some reason, Youtube put my comment in the wrong area. I was answering Sombrio12's question. I think he asked why his Famicom said "Computer Game" instead of "Family Computer".
Your right about that, The Famicom and FDS did have more of a Variety in Games then The NES, But then again isn't that always the case? Japan DOES get a lot more exclusive games then The US(With The UK a sort of middle ground, Excluding FDS that is).
And yeah some games that were FDS ported to The NES did lose some Sounds, Like Zelda II and Castlevania 3, But with C3 I didn't notice any difference yet.
When I think about it, Seeing The FDS, I think that Japan's NES was way more advanced then what people got in The US, Then again I'm a Sega Genesis Fan that just my theory!
