  • Has anyone noticed they are all wearing the same thing that they were wearing in bittersweet symphony?

  • just love this song

  • biggbugg35 not making any excuses ......there aint enough help out there for people!

! and what does not kill you makes you stronger.do not get hit with some of the things I have personally seen happen to people

  • They work just fine mister! See if suicide works then tell me all about it.

  • Damn I used to love this song. I also love "Better Be Home Soon" by Crowded House. *Clearly* these guys do too!

(Search for better be home soon acoustic and find neil finn in the London Songwriters Circle... 25 seconds in and you'll know what I mean).

  • what album is this from?

whatever it is i will have to buy after hearing this

  • @irishwarriors2010 Urban Hymns! Brilliant album

  • @swediep Agreed 100% unreal album

  • hi everyone,

I hate to bug in here to ask for feedback, but it seems to be the only way around to get some xD. So I uploaded a quick intro to a song I'm still working on, and I was wondering if someone could check it out and give me some opinions ;D

The song is called "somewhere down the breeze lines"

    Here's the link

    watch?v=IFsaUPCs4ok

    Thanks XD!

(if the link doesn't work, the song is on my pf)

  • just WOW ... just perfect

  • his mother ...god rest her soul xoxo

  • Classic masterpiece, prefer this to a lot of the Beatles and Rolling Stones tracks I've heard!

  • This is the song that could kill a aching soul. Thank God for creating Richard Ashcroft

  • 914 people that actually using drugs.

  • Very emotive.. he speaking from experience i presume

  • @Guiseppe107 This song is about the death of his father. ;( The drugs didn't work to keep his father alive...

  • this kinda blows. too slow. very monotone. needs more enthusiasm.

  • @MorganGreen2

That was the point, just look at it like a piece of art - the best art makes you feel the mood of the piece. In this case he conveys that message in monotone strokes... fucking brilliant!

  • brilliant song

    brilliant album

  • do i need some drugs to listen? Talking aspirin etc

  • Why wreck an awesome song? No one should be able to sing it other than Ben Harper.

  • @mentalfloss69 Actually, I believe Ben Harper covered it. I like both versions :)

  • just ace

  • CONTINUED- Richard Ashcroft wrote the song in early 1995. He briefly mentioned it in an interview at the time, relating it to his drug usage: "There's a new track I've just written [...] It goes 'the drugs don't work, they just make me worse, and I know I'll see your face again'. That's how I'm feeling at the moment. They make me worse, man. But I still take 'em. Out of boredom and frustration you turn to something else to escape

  • This is actually a multi-purpose song. It's about his dad fight with cancer and his fight with Drugs.

  • great song, but i do like ban harpers version a bit better

  • @gennflynn get out. some songs are great covered but no. This tune is Ashcroft's and it can't be covered and have the same impact, if you know what it's about. His voice seeps with passion in this song, and the harper version doesn't come close. IMHO.

  • @gennflynn ugh stfu

  • hes anoeroxic ????? sooo thinnnn.....

  • naaa weed works good

  • @frantheman3 whatever "floats" your boat.

  • love love love this tune top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This isn't about "drugs", it's about the cancer drugs his mom was on.

  • @jonahmiller7

it was acutally about his dad, his dad died of cancer and he started to use drugs to ease his pain

  • @jonahmiller7 his dad

  • you guys are corny

  • when you're old and tired of life the drugs don't work... so in a way they work...

  • this was the top song when i was born :)

  • They just make you worse

But I know I'll see your face again...

  • Drugs are just a way of trying to hide your problems.. They don't go away, they disappear.. they're always there the morning after :/

  • DRUGS WORK :P D: al love drugs XD

  • love is the most powerful drug of all, what do we do when it fails. Take time out regroup and renew your faith! nothing and i mean nothing is worth more than love not money not fame nor material possesions, i would rather die poor with true love than die a billionaire who never knew it

  • @stumpyking Very well said!!

  • @Ghostorchid2 Yes indeed, stumpyking is so right and says it VERY well. Indeed love is the most powerful drug in the universe and I am most definitely an addict for life!!!!!!!!!!! I love you Susie!

  • @iriewaregl As I am for you..Love Susie x

  • I am 14 and i fuckin love this song <3

  • @rodriguepoly does your mummy know you use words like that

  • @raywint1 Everybody use The word Fuck ;) Fuck Fuck Fuck (8)

  • Wow this is really good, normally I don't like music of this genre but this band makes it sound superb!!

  • I dedicate this to my ex, where ever he is.

  • great track, lots of talent here in the UK thats why ive set up my channel to help support unsigned uk talent from and genre of music. check me out :)

  • I'm not sure what it is, but this song makes me feel at peace.

  • @frightfullyromantic

its about his mother dying and the pain she was going through and they couldnt give her anything else and he just feels helpless cos he cant do anything

  • @chop9666

its acutally about his dad mate

  • @frightfullyromantic

this song was about his dying father

  • Happy Fathers Day Dad.

  • bien es una super rola... que tiene un gran mensaje y sobre todo el amor que le profesa a esa chica... si volver{e a ver tu cara....

  • He's a Top Man.........just love him!

  • Richard Ashcroft - MUSICAL GENIUS!!! This song is obviously personal 2 him and it speaks volumes to the listener. I defy any1 who listens to this and is not moved by it. Truly brilliant and amazing song, as most of Ashcrofts are!

  • I love this band so much...

  • I like the VERVE ,they are COOL....I think I'm gay for Ashcroft just like Bowie..lol

  • I thought this song was about his mum having breast cancer, correct me if Im wrong.

  • watch?v=olY-t4sq7w0

  • and the sad part is that drugs really dont work

  • @deadnerves maybe your just not using them properly

  • genious. what more can i say?

  • ; )

  • i totally agree with you both he was a genius , wish they was more like him today ,, brings back the memories

  • hello everyone,

I was just looking out for some feedback on a song I just made called "KEEP ON", I just uploaded it on my channel and I would really like for some people out here to check it out and tell me what they think. It would be really helpful. :)

  • lol i wear skinny jeans, and i like good music :L

    but my hairs shite :L

  • urban hymns is a fucking essential album

  • Thats why I am not listening to Top 20, all are just like fast food.

  • I know I'll see your face again.....

  • Que hermoso tema gracias por enviarmelo Salvador

  • Drugs are for mugs.

  • I agree. The music of this generation has lost purpose and you don't hear the soul anymore. Excellent song.

  • i wish music was still like this...

  • @Gresaaa u got this u old fuck

  • @wbooker10 ISSSS ITT REAAALLLY NOW?

    idiot

  • questa bellissima canzone e un modo per capire che con la droga non si risolve nulla ,anzi si diventa peggiori.!!!!!!vervet grandissimi!!!

  • i relate to this tune because for so many years i was treated for depression, and the drugs didn't work. turns out im bipolar now they do. why did they have to split? p.s Purebollocks my generation was no better there was the odd gem like verve but if you look there are some awesome talents out there. When people knew them as verve rather than the verve they were nobodys

  • Comment removed

  • "and i hope your thinkin of me as you lay down on your side" ie. the recovery position, his dad sick in hospital!!

  • yeah, i think his dad died of a brain heamorrhage when he was like 12.

    or something like that.

  • beuatiful +++++

  • I really LUV this song!

  • Never get bored of this song! He's bloody good.

  • i play this song to all my loved ones because they have to wake up and realize .. drugs just kill you ...

  • @FLAMEZ8931 u dumbfuck, hes talking about medicinal drugs

  • lmfao

  • How about ECT? Better than neroleptic therapy.

  • It always makes me cry.

  • life is hard enough, no need for drugs

  • I think your missing the point of the song. He isn't talking about narcotic drugs, he's talking about cancer drugs that his dad took while dying. Drugs you take during cancer make you sick and hurt you because that's how they kill the cancers.

  • drugs don't work,really

  • Mary sure the fuck does

  • @Raphaelthecrazy you're either thick or just ignorant, this song is written for a close relative who was terminally ill hense "the drugs don't work they just make you worse but i know i'll see your face again" hes not talking about having a spliff and never seeing that someone again is he u DICK!

  • @Raphaelthecrazy u dont need to tell me that matey there the worst things in the world

  • Wow i love this song, makes me emotional though, when i reflect on my life.

  • Good song, although since it's the Verve, they might rename it Drugs Don't Work (Except For When They Do).

  • Its only bands like the VERVE and EARTH CULTURE that really kick ass!

  • There is no need to argue about what this song is about. The fact is that Richard Ashcroft has never said exactly what it's about.

The most widely believed view is that it's about his father who died of cancer but he's never confirmed that theory.

Amazing song though and one that always makes me emotional as it has a special meaning for me personally.

  • The drugs do work ,you can see her face again if u want , for a short time though

  • wtf....??...im crying :'(

  • Dudes, no drugs work. Not even the legal shit they cram into you. I just favorited this.:-D

  • drugs you meant - work perfectly well when used properly. the drugs meant in the lyrics fail most of the time when applied to something like cancer...think before post.

  • Why is music not like this anymore? It annoys me so much its just idiots in skinny jeans with cool hair that sing about break ups in every song, I just hate how shit my generation is :/ I wish I'd be born earlier haha anyway great song x

  • I know man

  • god damn homie i say the same exact thing.. our generation is shit for sure its fuckin terrible

  • @ThePureBollocks i know thats so true

  • @ThePureBollocks

You are Bollocks yourself....can you speak and write in proper english...my headmaster woudl have skinned you alive for writing this garbage..

  • @Tonyroy00 Lol eh? I don't see whats wrong with what I typed out, I can spell and yes I can speak in proper English. If you're disagreeing with what I say then fair enough (:

  • @ThePureBollocks That's why you have to look for underground music. It is much better then popular music.

  • @charlotte4112 Exactly , if you dont like the taste of the masses, dig deeper !

  • @ThePureBollocks -- i agree... these songs were for a generation with dreams ,and hope .... this generation is death

  • @ThePureBollocks

Don't forget the brain diarrhea rap that talks about how amazing the thug life is. Music like this is a rare beauty. Thought provoking and true.

  • @ThePureBollocks Check out K'naan, a sumali rapper who talks about real struggles, poetic and has a style of his own....

  • Comment removed

  • @ThePureBollocks I second that....but I can hold my head up cause this is my generation :))))))

  • @ThePureBollocks Alt-pop still lives. This was a great time for music, but good music is still out there. It's just not what's popular right now.

  • @ThePureBollocks - I could not agree more my friend. I tend to just listen to 90's music, when appearance didn't really matter and songs like this were meaningful.

  • @ThePureBollocks sorry to say but that kinda music was always hidden. Im proud of my generation because we have MUSE, not to Travis- sing or Coldplay :)

Every generation brings something new and something better you just have to look for it more or less. If you are lucky enough to be polish or understand polish language here is a great band named "Coma" they have amazing poem like lyrics and rock music.

  • @ThePureBollocks music like this is still being made. it's just not on the radio. there has always been a substantial amount of tripe on the radio and always will be. there will always be a substantial amount of decent music out there, too, but you have to find it.

  • @ThePureBollocks Every generation has its good and its bad, it just so happens that its only the good thats ever remembered. There are some great artists of this generation.

  • @ThePureBollocks Agreed

  • @ThePureBollocks i bet you're sick of everyone replying to your comment.. :p

  • @ThePureBollocks fuckin A

  • @ThePureBollocks

    lets start over once again

  • @ThePureBollocks the strokes? haha

  • @ThePureBollocks the strokes?

  • @ThePureBollocks I'm 31, i loved the 90's, don't get me wrong there was some real shit music around in the 90's too, but at least the UK had a proper music scene. The media called it Britpop, so as a teenager in the 1990's, Britpop was my punk. Loved it, i'd give everything i have just to go back and re-live the period from 1994-1998 <3

  • Las DROGAS no funcionan para Mí es extraño, ni una me causa efecto!!! q buena canción, rumbo al cumple de cega con esta canción martes 16 de ste mes jejeje .... saludos S.J.M. Rockers ADEM@

  • Great song. THANKS

  • bits of the vocals here remind me of the smith's "i know its over" this song's amazing

    !!!!

  • schhhhhhhhhhhhhh IT DOESN,T MATTER WHAT IT,S ABOUT it matter,s because it,s a BRILLIANT BIT OF MUSIC so schhhhhhhhh LISTEN the AWESOME BRIT,S

  • while the ime, n' the 90's are gone this song never lose all the feeling and greastest that Ashcroft is put it on they i love this beatifull melody

  • People are SO STUPID. This song is NOT about drug abuse. It's about his dad dying from cancer. Don't people read the lyrics?

  • @PaperViewed paperviewed you dumb fuck, why tell people what its about when you dont know yourself. he wrote this song a little after his girlfriend died from drug abuse, you can google it if you really like.

  • WRONG, it's his dad dying of cancer idiot. Someone else posted below already, but maybe if your going to be a faggot get it right douche.

  • I completely agree dude, Hence the reason he states 'Know I'll see your face again' which he is referring to his father who died. By the way, did that really happen? is it true that he died?

  • yeah he was going to write the song about himself: the drugs dont work they just make ME worse, but then his dad died so he changed it to the drugs dont work they just make YOU worse its so sad

  • Still .... Everyone arguing about the meaning of this song??!!! Ashcroft wrote it for his father dying and his battle with Cancer. . . . . . However, music allows the listener to have their own meaning and this is soo open when it comes to this song! Stop Arguing, and appreciate the musical and lyrical genius of one of Britains finest ever singer song writers. Peace x

  • well said.

  • @KnifeDaMac right on!

  • @KnifeDaMac You are exactly correct. It was written for his father who died when he was young. These guys as far as I'm concerned talent wise, The Smiths, Pink Floyd, The Verve

  • @KnifeDaMac Richard Ashcroft's father died of a brain haemorrhage when he was 11 years old. He has often stated that he wrote the song in response to his feelings about his own drug taking, but has also stated that it was in reponse to his fathers death.......... not from cancer.

  • I was 14 when this song came out, and I was in love with Richard....lol

  • magnifique

  • love this song since i first heard it...and suddenly thought of it after watching an episode of CSI titled "Better Off Dead"..which reminded me of te lyrics of this song.....

  • gooooooooooooooood

  • Its About His Mother..?

  • like a cat in a bag waiting to drown, this time i'm coming down

  • @pietrogutta Very haunting and sad lyric when you really think about it.

  • its about cats

  • Comment removed

  • He sings the drugs dont work they just make you worse but then he sings the drugs dont work they just make me worse it coul be the realetion to him and his father as means to cope.

  • just beautiful and sad, like life

  • sadness is made in factories, and factories can be shut down :), it's like hot air and cold air, open the door and the hot air leaves :P, what i'm trying to say is, you forgot the happy part in your simile :D

  • pueden seer el placer de un momento, i la muerte de un espiritu eterno!

  • my uncle dieing from cancer 18 months made me appreciate this song so much more but we all have to die someday and when that day comes i'll be making sure that "this is music" and "parklife" will be played at my funeral.
