Hi, thanks for your Videos, sorry you got so many "Bung Holes " on your other Video, it is sad that these Folks have nothing positive to add.. good on ya mate.

A note to the wise... When you save the "TAG" text, make sure you then right-click on the file and check the properties of the file. When you do that, tick "READ-ONLY" AND "ARCHIVE" then click "apply" and "okay"...otherwise the file won't communicate with the camera's firmware.
yeah this guy has the best way to do this date n time setting method. It will go back if you let it go so flat it switches on for a second and switches off when trying to use it.
Got your email. I could not get this thing to work at all untill I found the driver i needed to install on the net and also took your advise and bought a card reader. It works! Thanks a lot for your help.
@renegadebiker24 Mine did not keep the date and time, so i don't bother to even set it anymore.
At the time I made this video back in 2010 it worked okay for a few days than it went beck to the date that was in the camera when I first got it.
So as far as I am concerned just ignor that date and enjoy using the camera, it is not worth the aggravation to keep having to reset the date & time each time the camera is used.
I've made up scripts for Windows and Linux to generate the TAG.txt file automatically ...no more typos, just double-click the script file before you eject and reboot the camera.
You Tube won't let me put a link here, so check my channel's comments for a link to my blog where you can find them.
Hi, I tried your method for the date, but mine doesn't work. You see, on the installation disc there is a file named 'TAG' and a file on the camera named 'TAG.TXT' I followed your instructions by doing it on the 'TAG' file on the disc, (set time, date) saved the file into the DCIM folder on the camera, recorded a video and watched it on my laptop and the date still read as 2008.
THIS IS CORRECt, Just make sure TO REBOOOOOT!!! turn camera off then back on and your date should take effect, i tried like 10 times without rebooting and it never worked!
You can download camstudio it films wha you wnat on the desktop without the need for a hand help cam sir and the finished product is cool try it out enjoy.
I had many problems trying to set time/date feature on my MD80 clone even though I checked out and followed to the letter several other 'Youtube' contributors and only after strictly following your advice, did I eventually succeed. Thanks - I found the key advice, having made the changes, was to 'Save as' the TAG.TXT file into DCIM folder onto micro SD card. Simply copying the file across, for some reason, did not work and resulted in inaccurate time displays. Thanks again
@elgarnimrod, Well I am glad it worked for you, my camera will no longer work most of the time.
I get corupted videos most of the time, videos will not play, shows zero bytes when I check on the video file size, it is so unreliable I just shuved it in a draw, not worth the bother anymore.
thank god for people like you...who take the time and effort to help us dumb nuts..i was ready to top myself with this little thing ..put the disk in and sit there for 40 years then play about with the camera for another 40 years not a clue what was what ..then goto youtube..and find (you) a friendly do-gooder..cheers again god bless
hi9 buddy love the vid i have done everything you said and the date changes no problem but i just cant get the time correct it is always 1 hr behind ? can you help?
For those of you who don't have the CD that came with it (like me!) you can open up "notepad" and create your own tag.txt. Just make it look exactly like the video has it at 5:19 (with the current date and 24hr time) Save it as "TAG.TXT" putting it in the main storage drive folder of the camera (I saved mine under My Computer> Removable Disk E). I unplugged the cam from the computer, powered it off, then back on and Tada!!
Followed these instructions... and it works!!! I've a netbook without a CD drive so had to create the file from scratch, and save it to the root directory of the camera (basically the main directory of my Micro SD card that's in the cam)
Still haven't found a way to remove the date stamping, but I guess as these are supposed to be "spy" cameras, you can't do it?
Cheers for the heads up, as yours is the first instructional vid that uses the correct "tag.txt" file name!
I know it is a joke, but it is funny. Overall, you did a great job on the time thing. I ordered one of those cams and bookmarked your page. Thanks for the info!!!
Hi thank you for your informative video! I have some questions:
To charge the camera (with PC) do i need to press the power switch before I plug it or you just plug it to the USB while its off? How do I know that the camera is charging (what lighting combination)? and how do I know when its ready charged?
Hi Bill, and congratulation for the video!! Please, on Mini dv80 it 'can not record the date and time? It must cancel the TAG file from the folder or what? How? Many thanks . Hello from Italy
@digital4560 I am not quite sure what you are trying to say but if you have the MD-80 and not the MD-80 D001"clone" like I have, the real MD-80 from what I understand has NO date/time stamp.
Thanks for your videos...very informative...although I never could get my time changed trying to move the tag.txt file into the camera directly. I finally used a card reader like you mentioned in your other video and THEN put the card back into the camera...YES!!! It finally worked! As long as the time and date is correct I am happy.
Were you using THE camera to record this video as you were teaching us about it?or a different camera ,it filmed the computer screen very well.Does it film while usb connected ? I want to buy one of these 4 my sis Do you think she can play back the video in an rca WONDER flip type camera which accepts SD cards she cant afford a computer .
Great job! thanks for taking the time to help us all out. I'm still looking for a way to remove that darn date stamp though. Also, does anyone know exactly how many functions the mode button has?
Hello, My spycam didnt come with a cd and just wanted to know if it is possible for somebody to send me the files? It is reading 2008/08/01 which is very very annoying!!!
You've been of great help! I didn't have a clue about how to work on the time and date file and let me tell you it worked with a totally different camera I have. Thanks a lot.
@jigc23 I am glad it worked for you, now if I can only get rid of the time/date stamp all togerher without losing the video information I will be happy.
@staskesi2 Yes you can, I have a Dane SDHC 4gb card in it now, Dane is one I got from Target, a cheap brand, but to answer your queation, yes you can use an SDHC card.
Hi there mate, install the driver package, plug the camera into the computer, and make sure to press the mode button, you will see a load of drivers on the bottom right installing, let it finish and your webcam will work.
If I knew how I would post it, I don't think anyone knows, I checked all other Youtube videos on this camera and excepr for removing the 60 lines using Virtual Dub, I don't think it can be done.
Ok thanks Bill. I'm about to buy the fastest card, a Class 6 which is on sale at Bestbuy for 19 bucks. It's an 8GB card which depending on who you talk to is max size for these. Some sellers are saying 16MB on ebay, but I'm not believing it.
@canadarocks420, Thanks but I do have video editing software, if you look at most every video I have you will see that.
I use Pinnicle Studeo V.12 for all my editing, titles, ane sound track when I use still photos for the video.
It just was MUCH quicker for me to use the computer screen to do this video.
What I would love to have is a computer program that will give me any background I want, like a photo I took with me in the forground (moving not still).
You mention in the video that you can't get the webcam to work - just press the mode button when it's connected to the computer. The drive will disappear and it's now a usable webcam.
As for the web cam feature I did that and the video is all lines and bars, the camera seems to get stuck in the PAL format instead of the USA standard of NTSC format.
It is fine as a video camera like the videos you see, but as a web cam it seems to revert back to PAL.
Oh well. I only discovered it by accident when I hit the mode button and the drive disappeared. Can't see myself using it as a webcam much.
I've had a big problem with the mounting brackets breaking - the little plastic bits at the top break off. I think I'm going to look at some velcro tape to helmet mount the camera for cycling.
I would not use the plastic clip to mount your camera to your helmet, use the rubber sleeve that comes with the camera and use a velcro belt, see my video on cleaning out the leaves from the gutters video.
Hi Jerry, Don;t feel bad, I can't for the life of me how and WHY anyone wants to text on a cell phone rather than TALK.
Talking is so much faster and much much easyer.
How you can type using those very tiney buttons is beyond me.
I had all I can do to see my computer keyboard and hunt and peck, that is why I was having such a problem showing how to change the date/time in this video.
I was holding the camera, pecking at the keys and trying to see all this.
The root directory is what you get when you click on a drive (C:, H:. etc.) without clicking on any of the folders contained within it. If you think of the folders (directories) as the branches of a tree, then the root directory would be the root of the tree; that's where the name comes from. In DOS terminology, the root directory is just the drive name with only a backslash after it, such as H:\ or C:\
Hi VWest7ife, Thanks Thats what I thought it was but I was not sure if the root directory was where the name of the card is (MD80 CAM) or the next one which is the (DCIM) folder.
Thanks for posting this instructional video. I'd been having a lot of trouble with the documentation on my D001 MD80 as well. Its amazing how poorly written it is, although the camera itself is very good.
Hi, thanks for your Videos, sorry you got so many "Bung Holes " on your other Video, it is sad that these Folks have nothing positive to add.. good on ya mate.

kgrainey00 7 months ago
@kgrainey00 Yes all the CD is used for is setting date & time and if you want to use it as a web cam.
It don't work as a web cam for me, forget the CD and plug it into the computer, charge it and use it as a "removable" drive.
You can get the video files off the camera just like you would if you were using a flash frive.

WiiLKO94 1 year ago
@WiiLKO94 I never had much luck getting the date set right.
When I made this video it worked for me but after awhile it would go back to 2008.
I gave up and just left it at 2008.
I since just threw the spy cam in a draw and don't use it anymore.
Mine kept getting corrupt videos, showing all lines and no video, I had to keep reformating the card.
For a 25 dollar camera you can't expect much.
I should take down this video because I don't think I helped very many people on this.
Bill

Hi Jerry, Don;t feel bad, I can't for the life of me how and WHY anyone wants to text on a cell phone rather than TALK.
Talking is so much faster and much much easyer.
How you can type using those very tiney buttons is beyond me.
I had all I can do to see my computer keyboard and hunt and peck, that is why I was having such a problem showing how to change the date/time in this video.
I was holding the camera, pecking at the keys and trying to see all this.
I get confused on this stuff too

The root directory is what you get when you click on a drive (C:, H:. etc.) without clicking on any of the folders contained within it. If you think of the folders (directories) as the branches of a tree, then the root directory would be the root of the tree; that's where the name comes from. In DOS terminology, the root directory is just the drive name with only a backslash after it, such as H:\ or C:\

Hi VWest7ife, Thanks Thats what I thought it was but I was not sure if the root directory was where the name of the card is (MD80 CAM) or the next one which is the (DCIM) folder.
Now I know and thanks for the information.
Thanks again for the help.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for posting this instructional video. I'd been having a lot of trouble with the documentation on my D001 MD80 as well. Its amazing how poorly written it is, although the camera itself is very good.
Happy New Year!
