man I would do this and then use the woobly windows or the cube from compiz to show my friends the new XP I downloaded from the internet.problably that would make them use linux more.

You can customize your login still. You need to load the gnome-appearance-properties before you load GDM as root, change the theme like you would any gnome theme, login, remove appearance properties from xinit and logout. Bingo, customized gdm.

It does everything I need it to do. Don't pay anything for it, and I can run all sorts of things that don't come with Windows for free. Now I'm not saying that Windows is bad, but Linux nowadays has a lot going for it! And it's pretty easy to install and use as well.

But XP is such a bad look. If you're a Linux user the last thing you want is a Winows look, especially XP (It's better than Vista but not in it's UI). There are som many other beautiful themes out there.
