So you see after he mixes it and inspects it, he sets it down on the table and his hands are rested, then he presses the space bar. That riggers a timer, and when you're done you throw the thing down to hit the bar.

Thats pretty good, but it seems that you have a bit of a problem in situations when you have 2 inverted pieces located on the opposite sides of the pyraminx remaining, in the first and the last try you had such situation and first time you needed 16 moves and the second time 10 moves to solve it. But there is a much better solution for those situations which is only 8 moves and it is also much faster.

It doesn't. It's actually far easier to just solve it then it is to memorize the scramble sequence, instantly reverse it in your head and apply in in a matter of seconds without making any mistakes. Trust me, that's harder.
