@AcidfartProductions - They'll do that - :) As long as there's a source of food, raccoons will do their best to find it. If you continually take the dogs' food inside over-night, they may get the message that there isn't any food there, and they'll stop coming. Not sure if you can do that or not (if your dogs are outside all the time or not), but that's one thing that should work.
@DejaxBlue - Thanks, they definitely are! I can see how you would miss them, raccoons are amazing animals - :) I got your note, will write back to that soon!
such nice, clear videos! what type of camera do you use? are they looking at the camera because they hear the lens adjusting? they look nervous, but at the same time, can't turn down the free food!
@minkyblack - Sorry about the late response! True on the free food! They're really not all that nervous about the camera, I think they're *more* nervous about the shadows it casts (because they make it look bigger than it is due to the light) - my camera is a Panasonic AG-HMC150 and the video was shot in 720p60 mode...
Different coons like different things, not really sure why, maybe Rocky had more of a culinary background - :) I've been giving them non-cooked eggs, because it would be closer to what they'd find in the wild.
I'm not sure on that one - they usually stay out a maximum of 12 hours, that's how long it takes the coons to find them - :) We put everything out at 3 or 4 in the afternoon (put food down and set up the remote camera to record), and the raccoons usually come between 11-12 and 3-6am, so the eggs aren't usually out there for very long. Lately they've been out a little longer, because the raccoons don't seem to want frozen-to-the-ground-hard eggs - ;)
@12engines - Thanks, I'm glad you like them! I loved that part too! I wondered all night if I had the feeder secured to the ground well enough, the raccoon proved me wrong - :) It's just cool to see him notice that the feeder mat's free, but not knowing what to do next. "Ooh! It's not bolted down... should I take it??"
@Anticept - Thanks! YT does tend to screw the quality up sometimes! Well, the video was shot in AVCHD at 720p60, converted to Apple Intermediate Codec for editing, the final file (also in AIC) was taken to MPEG Streamclip and re-compressed as an MP4 file (using H.264) at around 30-35Mbps, and then uploaded here. I'm surprised at how well it came out too, the only downside is the YouTube video isn't 60p - it flows so much better at 60p!
Hi! Thank you very much for saying so, I'm glad you like them! This video was shot with a Panasonic AG-HMC150 HD camcorder at 60p (720p60), I have other videos that are shot with a bunch of different cameras, a lot of them eBay rejects (like the "Hamcampsterball" video)
best videos i have seen ..with so much clarity..i have these guys all around the house in the woods..i dont think its that bad to feed them..we have taken over their territory so food is prob. scarce ..anyways great filming! thanksxo
Thank you for saying so! I don't see any problem with feeding them, just as long as it's not in excess. I try not to feed them *too* much (you don't want them to rely on you solely for food, but to have another "stopover" on their foraging routes isn't bad). I wish I had raccoons where I lived (I tape all of my raccoon videos at a friend's house)!
Great video!! I loved it, can't wait to watch all your stuff. I'm glad you're promoting the cleverness of raccoons. So misunderstood. Are these from the east coast? I'm in CA and the raccoons here are much darker. I'm originally from NJ and the raccoons looked like yours. Keep up the great work, you're awesome!!
Thank you for saying so! You're awesome too, you've had the chance to work with raccoons and other wildlife! :) I love raccoons, everything from their inquisitiveness to their intelligence (and I like their destructive side too :)) - they're absolutely fascinating to me! Yes, I am on the east coast! I have noticed (from watching another in Cali. that has raccoons) that California raccoons seem to have a black mask that goes underneath their muzzle as well as the top - ours rarely have that!
Great quality video of a raccoon just filled my entire screen! This is why I'm subscribed to your videos. It's like I'm right there with the raccoon, studying it. I look forward to your upcoming videos.
Also, great editing. No shot was too long or too short, and everything was zoomed in just right. I hope somebody wants to use your videos in documentaries, because this is top-notch.
Thank you so much for your nice comment! It means a lot! Thanks for the subscription too - there are still 2 other videos coming in this series (I've got even more in-depth shots and examples of raccoon behaviors, along with a few shots of them just goofing around of course!) Hopefully that video will be coming in the next few weeks, I need to work on editing it now.
Thank you! Ah, yes - don't you just love raccoon body language? - :) Scoot is an awesome coon! I read the story about you not being able to find him at the beginning of the month, I'm glad everything worked out (it's so "raccoon"-like to hide in a cabinet and make everyone think you're missing - :))
I got a great shot of the exact behavior you're talking about - I'll be releasing that in the 2nd part of this series. One of the coons flattened her ears back, and RAN at another coon!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! I think so too, the ones in the beginning (the raccoon with the brownish face-mask licking the egg) is a female, I think the rest are males. I have more video coming soon that shows more of the female coons, there were 2 that came around during that time.
Good video and it is nice to see a new one from you. I like the way their ears move when they are listening. It was funny when she was carrying the bag away with her, Doggy bags for raccoons. You are brave with that good microphone out in the open. I am glad they left it alone.
Thanks! I love the way their ears twitch, especially when they just stand there and scope the scene. Hehe... I love the doggy bag feeder project too - completely unintentional! I think she liked it though, I thought she was going to carry it off into the woods! That mic is definitely a better mic than the one I usually use, that one is completely "raccooned" - :)

Z..... i keep watching it over and over , it like da coonie is right in front of me , so clear awesome work , so how long we gots to wait for part two and three lol
Hehe... hopefully not long! The beginning took me the longest to come up with, I couldn't figure out how I wanted to start it! :) I thought it was awesome how close I was to get to them with the camera! The 2nd day has some even closer shots!
Thank you so much for saying so! I think so too! Sorry about the comment issue, I have moderation turned on for comments for some videos so I don't get comments like "all raccoons deserve to die" and the like - that's why the comments didn't post. You'd be surprised what some people post in comments - :(
Thanks for saying so - the thing that took me the longest was the opening, I've been thinking for the longest time on how I wanted to start off with it, and I finally decided "minimalistically"! The 2nd and 3rd ones are going to be awesome too when they're ready! Hopefully sometime soon - :)
Me too - it's almost *more* fun watching to see just how they'll thwart the challenges you give them. Feeder in the ground? No problem! Just take off with it! Smart coons! :)
Wow, what a vid!!! Tab, i read a comment to another viewer, so this you shot this vid in june and just released it,.....well, its all WORTHWHILE THE WAIT!!! 5* ol' buddy and lookin' forward to them other two parts of the series on beautiful coons! = )
P.S. Luv the shot at 2:25 to 2:29, still portrait there, great to have to hang in the livin' room, ya ever thought of makin' prints?
Thank you so much for the nice comment! I'm glad you liked it so much, raccoons are just amazing animals - :) That shot is one of my favorites too (the one at 2:25) - I love the way it's ear slowly scans back and forth, but it's head stays staring straight ahead. I'm not sure how good a still of that picture would be, it's a little grainy, but I should put a graphic together! Something like the mosaic in my background. Hehe... at the rate I've been working though, that may take a while - :)
Thank you Klaus! I've got more coming, this is just the start of this series! I've been meaning to comment on your latest video for quite a while, that is so awesome that your raccoons are so familiar with you!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it, I have more coming soon (hehe... hopefully - I taped this in June and just got around to releasing it now! :)) This video is part 1 of a 3 part series, I've got even more candid shots in the other two!
Z .....Awesome shots as always , i loved da hand shot lol you are so lucky to be able to do this , i know i got em up close and personal , but i never get any visitors in da yard
Thanks Irene! I don't get visitors either - :) I'm very lucky to have friends that do though, I love spending the night there! I wish I had coons visiting my house every night, but it's probably best for them not to come here (I live in a more suburban area, way too many dangers for coons here) - it would be nice to see them though!
Thanks for saying so, it's such a relief to me that these raccoons live in a less-travelled area, not as much to interfere with them as there would be in a more suburban area. The wooden dowel holding the bag to the ground actually snapped in half, that's why it carried it off! "Whoops! Oh, I can take off with it now!!" I love when it grabbed the feeder and almost tripped over it while running off with it - :)
Thank you! I'm glad you like it, I had a feeling you would! This is actually one of 3 I'm going to release - I visited the site for 3 days back in June, this is an edit of the first night. I've got even better close-ups on the other 2 nights! I thought the hand was funny too - I saw my one light kick on, hit RECORD on the camera and then turned the big light on, wondering what kicked the first light on, and then I saw it - raccoon paw! :)
Sure, if you'd like to! Just as long as it's a good pic and not used for something negative like coonhunting, trapping, etc... Also, please let me see it when you have it up - :)
Thank you! I was actually inside when I taped this, controlling the camera from a remote zoom device, but the camera and microphone is right out there with them. I'd love to be able to tape things like this while being out there with them, but they'd just run off, so the motorized panhead is the next best thing - :)
Thanks for the comment! I think raccoons are adorable too! Yep, there are cookies and a marshmallow or two in there - I rarely get to stay the night at the area where I tape my raccoon videos, so when I get the chance, they get a little treat from me - :)
Thanks for saying so! I'm so sorry about the deforestation in your area - that would have driven me nuts! Hopefully you do get a chance to see another raccoon around there some day!
Yeah I bet. Its a big operation. Thanks for the support. Maybe, we did save several trees...2 are on our property we found out and the other 2 huge trees, they kept cuz of the close proximity to the gas line in the back.

Thanks for the comment! I think raccoons are adorable too! Yep, there are cookies and a marshmallow or two in there - I rarely get to stay the night at the area where I tape my raccoon videos, so when I get the chance, they get a little treat from me - :)

I have not seen any coons around our parts for some time. Now prob wont at all cuz of the const and deforestation in our back yard.
Excellent quality. Good close up pans too.
cool, cute and fascinating critter.

You're welcome! I hope you did save a few. it would be a shame if the squirrels left too!
