Last MS release in Europe was in '96 (Smurfs 2), and yes, it was supported into the noughties in Brazil. Don't know of any games after Street Fighter II in '97, but TecToy kept making and marketing new models.
Thanks lots, I got this when it came out before I upgraded to a Snes, I was very impressed with it, graphics and sound blew me away, slightly easier than the 16bit versions though...There was blood...had to enter a code on the code screen like on Megadrive. Cant remeber the Master system blood code but Megadrive code was A,B,A,C,A,B,B.
I love the Sega Master System and have a bunch of games including this. "Technical superiority" over the NES is not universal. The SMS's main advantage is that it can display more colors on screen from a larger palette than the NES.
I love how so many people have posted about the blood code in these comments. Learn to Ctrl+F, or did you actually think you were the first person to tell him about the code.
the blood blood and death moves code is 2,1,2,down,up. You have to press it when all that writing comes up at the beginning of the game where it talks about some code.
rocky on the sega master system was my favorite game i got mines in 1988 i was 11 years old btw do you remember the 1st master systems to come out had a built in maze game in order to get it 2 work you had 2 wait till the sega logo came on and hold left and B for like 10 seconds!!
They could put it on nes. On MM and other games, even though they have 3/4 colors per sprite versus the SNES/GENS/SMS 15/16, they can split it into different spirtes that they only have two people on screen. This would make it more like SMS versus monochrome.
MM makes his head a different sprite from his helmet and body, since they already used the 3 colors for the black, light blue and dark blue colors for the rest.
People seldomly give proper credit to Master System. Thanks for that. :) I had a SMS first and owned a japanese famicom afterwards. The technical downgrade was a slap on the face.
on the genesis when it talks about the "code" if you put in A B A C A B B the white letters turn red and it gives you blood in the game it's called the blood code obviously...
even if you compare iconic games to each other the sms simply out performs the nes.... sonic 2 vs smb3 hands down sonic has excellent graphics for 8 bits
SMS had so many ports of popular 16 bit arcade ports. I think most are from Brazil, where the system was huge way into the 16 bit era. Great review. I was hopin they included the fatalities.
@PaulHong22 The Gameboy had a number of advantages over the NES. It's got "tons" more RAM (16kb total while the NES had a little over 5kb), bigger cartridge sizes (1Mb average, while NES average was about 128kb), and a slower but more advanced CPU. (NES has 2 CPUs at 1MHz and 5MHz, while the Gameboy's was 4MHz. However, the Gameboy Color's could do 8MHz).
They may not sound like big numbers but it makes games like Mortal Kombat possible.
Why would they want to port this to an underpowered system with a controller that only has two buttons? You should have told us how the control scheme works. Can you pull off fatalities? Can you kick and punch both high and low? For a game that was meant for six button controls I'm skeptical as to whether or not they made a decent port
i have heard somewhere that mortal kombat on all sega platforms got banned in Germany it that true? if it is true then it suprises me as Germany often ban Things with Nazi references
I believe they stoped making games in the US in the early 90's, around '92/'93. They made games much later in countries where it was more popular like Brazil.
I had this game 15 years ago, there is a code ( which i can't remember ) which allows blood, also the fatality moves each character can preform, during the 'Finish him' part of each round. During the opening of the game, a screen describing codes appears. Try this button combination, 2,1,2,down,up. Would be nice to know if this works
I really dislike the NES for some reason, I grew up with it but I didn't really like how freakin annoying the sound effect were and how the graphic were. I'll take atari 2600 over NES any day
Wow that is pretty amazing...I didn't about this game either. And it came out in 93? only like a year after it's been out for the arcades.I would of killed to get this game back then..ofcourse I didn't have a SMS(not a lot of ppl did) ,I would of figured a way to get one!! If they only had more games like this earlier on,would of been more of a threat to nes.
Oh wow that is crazy! I came across this one day when I was major into roms but I thought it was just something made by people, as in a non-legit version. That is really awesome I totally want this version!
I believe this game is only release in Europe for the Sega Master console. In Europe, the Sega Master is the dominating 8-Bit console over the NES that's why it received more popular games than the US Sega Master. In Brazil, it was even more popular earning a Street Fighter II port as well for that region.
The Master System managed different sprites for Scoprion and Sub Zero; the Mega Drive couldn't:D.

I grew up with mortal Konbat and the master system.
But never the two together! I played mortal Kombat on my amiga and loved playing others games on the sega.
Because the 8 bit mortal kombat was the lest fluid version of mortal kombat ever..i really hated playing it.
still nes would never have been able to do this at all.
