  • unwise Holly, Unwise

  • just watched this film like two minuets ago and just had to look up the song

  • Just realized this is the "Ebert presents at the movies" opening theme.

    Only took a year... XD

(I need to see this movie)

  • @Kyesight it's great

  • Great movie about how things don't go the way that they ought to. This theme brilliantly highlights the dark humor in this.

  • I havnt heard it for years, its great to play the music again

  • sssshhhh, its a secret..... =)

  • this must have inspired alot of the background music from spongebob....

  • I can't stop replaying...help...

  • A haunting little tune evoking a deep feeling of dangerous intrigue and enermatic mystry.

  • Gramophone version: /watch?v=Qx02oTgfxVU&feature=related

  • I love this tune but every time I hear it a chill goes up my spine as if to say *danger*.

  • Once I visit my girlfriend this friday we are going to dance to this song in the living room.

  • An extra plus for using the British print of the film. The American print (running wild on the PD market) presents the theme already in progress, and severely edits it to pieces at the end.....

  • @LandondeeL ...With this song, that should be a crime.

  • Watched this in my Film Screening for Film & Media the other day. The bus home involved me and my friend singing this in full voice annoying about 60 other people on the bus. Just excellent!

  • The Resident's version> original

  • remembers me the summertime... 8)

  • Like fine red wine it has aged deliciously

  • Unique

  • I've loved this song since i heard it when i saw the movie at a Saturday matinee when i was a boy, thanks so much as i repost it :)).

  • A truly wonderful theme and outstanding film to end off one the finest decades of cinema (1949 that is).

  • on wednesday we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the german speaking premiere...

  • bernard lee played m in the first bond films

  • wonderful...simple but elegant !!!

  • This is THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE!

I never have heard a zither sound SO good before or since! Best movie theme song too!!

    Love Anton Karas!!!

  • Some one said "It's so odd but I can't imagine the movie any other way" I agree with him as well

  • Help ! How can we find the last scene of this film? It was here in Youtube but it is not available any more. We lost the masterpiece :-(

    Any ideas?

  • I love this music because it's so different from the rest. While one would expect an average film noir to have outbursts of tugging strings and orchestral music, this demonstrates that it can be done with other instruments. The zither music makes a fantastic addition to a fantastic film, really sets the mood for the film. Why can't all movie music be like this?

  • Actualy thats a steel guitar, this a zither

  • Mais quelle beauté ce film et sa musique, toutes ses légères imperfections dues au temps qui passe sont la tourbe et la richesse de ce film qui restera dans nos mémoires .

  • Yeah, that's austrian music!

  • super .... pourquoi le très bon est-il souvent ancien?

  • i love this song! after i watched this movie i couldn't get this out of my head

  • classic

  • Best movie music EVER!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Check out the cast..Alida Valli (known as Valli) in the movie..Wilfred Hyde-White (Colonel Pickering in 'My Fair Lady'..and Bernard Lee..'M' in the James Bond series..and the opening music..what a masterpiece..

  • This movie is one of the all-time greats. Orson Welles is absolutely riveting in his performance, and this choice of the zither is absolutely inspired!

  • The third man is #57 in the AFI's list of greatest american movies. I think it should be near the top ten! I'm watchin all the movies in the list, in this site:

    blogger-films.blogspot *com

  • Isn't it considered a British film? I thought Carol Reed was an Englishman.

  • it is considered a British film, it was even recognized as the greatest British movie of the 20th century.

the film's only American connection was its executive co-producer, Selznick

  • @deibid2003 - Agreed!

  • Wow. the assistant director was Guy Hamilton, director of Goldfinger and a couple of other lesser Bond films.

  • from the expert, no less!

  • One of the cutting boys, John Glen, also ended up becoming a Bond director: He directed all five Bond films of the 1980s. Not a bad start here, eh? ;)

  • Cut it off too soon.

  • Top work uploading this clip.

  • Such an amazing theme.

  • GREATEST MOVIE EVER!

  • Harry Lime's woman was italian actress Alida Valli.

  • great

  • Unforgetable!! Great!

  • sweeeeett!!

  • Thanks very much for uploading this. May God Bless you.
