  • Old Love in there too, fucking genius.

  • I have had this on a cd from l-83 for years...I cannot believe that someone said this "used" to be Belief..no this was wayyyy before Belief..

  • Sounds weird haha so used to belief!

  • The solo is amazing!

  • crazy CRAZY solo man... LOVE IT

  • thumbs up if you think @chaferbud is John Mayer

  • i wounder if John knows that his biggest fan is from Iraq :D

  • @TheBluerose94 i wonder if he knws his biggest fan is from saudi arabia

  • John Mayer and I are going to marry. There's just one problem, he does not know yet :S

  • MY GOD.. he's also put in 'old love' in it...... this is beyond brilliant !!! i LOVE IT

  • @raQeel00000 ikr! Good luck to John Mayer! Hopes he makes another album!

  • @laurieinthewhare he actually put that in the song as a second guitar. Listen closely! He also played that riff at the bluesjam at crossroads

  • I wish you posted the lyrics

  • @TheAngelJC the lyrics are on sing365(dot)com

  • @rgl3ma57 lol, what is it with people needing a website to find lyrics? He's singing RIGHT HERE! This, not just you, but everyone, just goes to show how lazy everyone is getting. Try being a DMB fan, the guy litterally mumbles on new songs live.

  • @dvalukis some people (including me) like to know the lyrics, or sing along. don't judge. is there something wrong with that? how does it show how lazy we are?! if we look up the lyrics we can then sing along or whatever.

  • This made my day! Thanks for sharing (John?) :)

  • SIIICCK riff starting at 5:02

  • is this referring to 9/11

  • @LostPlanet360 its referring to life as it is right now, with wars, recessions, and other problems with this world today.

  • @MatthewRhedMusic "Where the fire burned, the grass began to grow" could definitely apply to 9/11 in that our country was weakened, then came out stronger in the end. but it could also apply to the wide array of problems that the world faces today. we will all flourish after the fire has died out.

  • MAN I LOVE THE WAY THIS SOUNDS

  • Wheel, Old Love, and Belief all in one song...whoa.

  • Its not that rare of a find if you got it off of the same torrent you got all of your other stuff on.. that whole description is retarded btw.

EVERYONE ..IF YOU WANT CHAFERBUDS MUSIC JUST DOWNLOAD UTORRENT AND TYPE IN JOHN MAYER RARE AND YOU CAN GET EVERY "RARE" SONG HE HAS ON HIS CHANNEL IN ONE DOWNLOAD. IT TAKES ABOUT 5 MINUTES.

  • @25Ragz Dude, I've seen you floatin' around Chaferbud's & other JM fan pages all over YouTube and all you do is put them on blast. I'm subscribed to yours along w/all of theirs. The only difference is they don't trash on other channels. You're the only one who talks crap on how bad their content is or how "un-rare" the material is. For most fans, it is rare so give em a break. Low key I understand you want to have the reigning channel but Chaferbud has been loved for years so cut him some slack.

  • I like Mayer alot, but never heard him sing fals before. First time in this song. Thats only make him human, i guess.

  • This one is one of my favorites too. Sounds amazing :)

  • Nice find!

  • Just one thing to say: JESUS MAYER

  • That Wheel colaboration, if you can call it that, was ingenious! JM never fails to blow my mind.

  • 'I was gonna play Wheel but I changed my mind.' Brilliant.

  • Comment removed

  • ah ah awesome " i was gonna sing Wheel, now i changed my mind" XD

  • it's like every feeling i've felt about life he makes into a good fucking pop song.

  • He sounds like Sting.

  • first off goodfortune its because is a DEMO he prob just made up lyrics---any way what i really wanted to say was that i liked this solo better then the recorded belief solo>>

  • @guitarmasterjvc agreed! this is the perfect compromise between his love solos of this song and the one he put on Continuum...

  • Never heard JM sing so out of tune :P

  • @GoodFortuneOfficial its pretty in tune actually, look up why georgia at the beacon theatre..

  • @FreaquedeMusique It's pretty much a few millitones out of tune 90% of the time. :)

  • @GoodFortuneOfficial thats why i said its PRETTY much in tune.. if 50% is the perfect note... hes constantly singin 47/49% or 51/53% thats more or less what i meant

  • @GoodFortuneOfficial wtf is a millitone?

  • @mickoallen A very small distance of musical notes.. Like the difference between 350Hz and 349Hz. Can't really explain it too well in English anyway =P. But to be honest, there's no singer who sings perfectly clear on the right notes, it's always some 'millitones' higher or lower than the note it should be sang on. Like.. 1Hz to 10Hz difference (just my estimate).

  • amazing how this is so different from belief.i need to re-listen.

  • "I was gonna play "Wheel"...now I changed my mind"

    EPIC!!!

  • best john mayer song ever!

  • Like this more than belief..

  • awesome song... this version is more about personal struggle whereas the actual belief is more about a universal concept...

maybe he was trying to take the song into a more waiting on the world to change kind of arena .. but i think it came out a little too political/religion bashing

i like this version more lyrically , musically only for the solo

  • this song is freakin nuts. i think i like this one better than what it turned out to be. although i do wish that he used a delay effect for his intro. it would've been a tight effect i think. and i love the fact that he throws lyrics in from other songs.

Dear John Mayer, you're a freakin beast.

  • i like this solo alot better .

  • <3 this song and john mayer

  • does anybody have these lyrics??

  • john mayer rights shit like this, then gets high as fuck and makes it good.

  • did he say i was gonna play wii and now i change my mind ? :S

  • @brugerper No he said "I was gonna play Wheel but now I changed my mind". But thats hilarious though if he had said wii

  • @brugerper he said i was going to play wheel but i changed my mind.. i thought the same thing at first

  • @brugerper I think he said "I was going to play wheel" (airports see it all the time).

  • @zonedout245 "I was gonna play wheel, but i changed my mind" lol mad funny he started to play it then wanted to solo

  • whheeeeellll at 2:52

  • lyrics?!?!?! btw amazing version : D

  • I just want to know how he goes from this to Belief... lyrics are not similar in the least and this is def not inspiring...if I was him and i came up with this first i would be like this is def shit.

  • He's not the best at improvising the lyrics on this one. lol! "I was gonna play wheel but I changed my mind". Thats just priceless. Oh my Johnnykins

  • The piece of Old love was fine, too. =)

But the guitar solos are AWESOME!

  • These lyrics are much more poignant and heartfelt. Curious how it evolved from this to such a blatantly political song. Guess he just liked the riff?

  • anyone know where i can find the lyrics for this version?

  • in the 'aiports' bit, its lile the song 'In Your Atmosphere', like 'canyon lines say we see this all the time.' this is awesome!

    i was gonna play Wheel, now I changed my mind.' =}

  • love the outro

  • Wish I could hear all of the lyrics.

  • hahaha i laughed so hard about yer comment exp!! lolzz nice 1 right there hehe

  • i was gonna play wheel but i changed my mind!!! hahahahahahahahahahahaaha hilarious

  • i was gonna play wheel now i change my mind

  • Is this with the Trio or his full band?

  • This reminds of the Sting song "Shape of my Heart", very similar guitar piece

  • Comment removed

  • That's nice dude.

  • That is hilarious!

  • @HalfBillion did the whole world have to know that?

  • I like the lyrics he wrote for belief

  • Thats cool as shit... i wish you could find more stuff like this

  • lol "i was gona play wheel, now i changed my mind"

  • i hate to get all superficial on yoçu, mayer fans, (i am also one) but would anybody know the brad of the leather jacket he's sporting on the picture? the one with the big flap in the front. thank you in advance!

  • i must say i like the old chorus. i also like how he has no idea where he's going and references 3 or 4 other tunes.

  • For anyone interested this is from a Bootleg Recording.

The concert was held on 3-14-2004 at Brandeis University

  • after playing the belief solo over and over and over and over and over again, this sounds really good.

  • that arpeggio at 3:43 was too klean

  • thank you so much chaferbud! this vid made my day :D

  • 2:50 he references his song "wheel"

  • Thank you for telling me.

  • I wish I was John Mayer.

But I'm not. And thus, wasted my life.

  • bUT at least you posted this video and gave me new life. This is great.

  • Me too.

  • @samiam1432 haha man I loved your comment :)

  • @samiam1432 hahahah i like your humor

  • @samiam1432 As JM always says, just think you as a person are awesome. Everyone's awesome in a way. I bet that you are too, without being such an ownage musician as he is. :P

  • @samiam1432

No, the waste is in never discovering one's own true nature. Somewhere in there you are every bit as amazing as John Mayer, but in your own unique way. I don't mean to sound cliche, but it is so true.

  • @lockheedrocketchick i want to thank you for this comment from the bottom of my heart !:)

  • @nicolasgardner Wow, very cool. It makes my day that that meant something to you. I don't know if you would want any more info on the topic, but Carol Tuttle's book, "It's Just my Nature" is an incredible book. Everything that she offers has made a world of difference in me discovering my own true nature, and then knowing how to express it. Just a thought. Have a good life!

  • "I can feel it in your body..."

    That's from Clapton's "Old Love".

That means most of this song's lyrics were made up on the spot. How bad ass is that!!!

Then he was "gonna play Wheel" but he changed his mind because he got lost in the mesh of this amazing track!!!

A TRUE ARTIST. His guitar work is so much more superior to anyone in the industry right now. Just listen from 4:33 on!!!

  • Tell me when you write something as good.

  • ahhhh i've been looking for this. i heard this before belief and wheel.... amaaazing. thanks for having this up!

  • i was gonna play wheel but i changed my mind xD

  • awesome find dude

  • Big find on the seemingly impossible quest to hear every JM original.

    Thanks a lot chaferbud.

But more importantly. How the fuck did you find this!?

  • something tells me its secretly john who made a separate youtube channel to release demos and stuff just for fun, for fans

  • so much better than what made the cd (belief)

  • replay... replay... replay... replay... replay...

    this song never gets old

  • Comment removed

  • Love hearing alternative songs that John is so good at doing.

Thats why the guy never gets old to me.

  • Comment removed

  • lol.. Airports see it all the time, I was gonna play Wheel, now I changed my mind.

  • the solo on this is way better than the belief on the cd

  • HOW DID YOU FIND THIS FORREALL?

  • Haha I like this. It's funny I was gonna play wheel but I changed my mind. lol then the solo then he plays Eric Clapton's Old Love.

  • listen man belief is a beautiful armor that makes for teh heaviest sword like punching under water you neevr hit what your trying for and then he literally says what put the folded flag inside its mothers hands belief can im pretty sure its about teh effect of war

  • definitely what he's getting at. pretty much stating religion can create a backlash towards many issues and a never ending cycle of war

  • nice solos ........

  • lyrics are alot worse then belief though

  • i like how hes just kinda free styling... its cool

  • They are very deep though... Sleeping at the crash site, walking in the wreckage of somebody's past life, another ones old love, where the fire burned the grass began to grow... interpret as you wish!

  • LMFAO OMFG "I was gonna play wheel but i changed my mind"

  • I kinda like this one better. its a little bit more funk-ish to me than the original. I also like the melody.

  • Awesome upload!

  • Nice version, listen out to the vocal reference to Clapton's "Old Love".

  • i really wonder where he played this... it's definitely live you can hear the screams

  • if you think this is a studio recording then YOU'RE the one on crack my friend.

  • agreed, thanks chafer

  • the second solo kicks so much ass, but i think belief's version is more studio-appropriate.

  • So does anyone no the deal with this?

Like was it done before he recorded Belief as we know it now?

Is it just a scratch version where he's testing out lyrics or something?

Cos its a bloody brilliant version thanks so much for putting this up.

  • I hear this way before wheel and had a little epiphany when I did. This makes belief sound horrible... simmering melody is an amazing song.

  • I love when he says " I was gonna play wheel now I changed my mind" at 3:05

  • do you think he means his song wheel?

  • yes

  • I actually heard him do a couple of verses of this version in concert in Chicago like 2 years ago..pretty sweet

  • that solo is amazing it has a weird quality to it

  • Comment removed

  • I think you're totally right, especially in your analysis of One Song One Day. But I must say, where did you ever find this?

  • I don't remember. I was looking up JM rarities and I heard of one called "Simmering" and I just searched everywhere for it. Got lucky i guess!

  • where do you find all these rarities? is there a site that has a lot of them, or do you find these all over the net?

  • i've been all over the net..

  • old love referenceeee

  • SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • should have kept this solo in the final version

  • o hell yea

  • One word... solo

  • so i converted it using that site your told me about but it won't let me put it into itunes. i double click it, itunes pops up, and nothing happens. it just sits there.

oh and i converted it to mp3, but that should still work, right?

  • this is so good. made my day. this is delish!

  • its sounds so weak here compared to the album version

  • are you a mole in the john mayer camp? where are you getting this stuff!!?

  • yep, i'm a mole. how did you guess?

  • lol, can you ask him to record an acoustic version of Try! and record it while he's not paying attention then, :)

  • haha that would be great

  • literally can't stop listening to this version of belief, it seems to pretty powerful to me and love the reverb he's getting all the way through. Where abouts is it from and is it officially entitled 'simmering'? this has made a fantastic addition to my channel, please do check it out, it's my go to page when ever the laptop's on :) thanks for this

  • thanks man!! thats awesome!!!

  • great find man! thank you

  • do you happen to have the mp3 of it? :D, yeah, and all those questions too

  • i was gonna play wheel but i changed my mind LOL - u gotta love jm...

  • This is pretty cool!
