  • USMC2nd,

Oh that is where the Aussies were, in the air , as I only knew of two that actually set boots on the ground, and of course artillery. I left on my back after getting hit twice taking 861. E/2/9/FO

  • My dad left on his back after getting hit by shrapnel by 2 500 pound bombs in "Arizona" territory and he said that the Aussies were pretty damn good guys to be around, same with the South Korean Marines

  • @ At all those who bag the song because Khe Sahn was a mostly American operation... it is still symbolic of the overall experience. Get over yourselves. Great song.

  • Sorry to hear about your evac.

This song is for and about ALL Vietnam Vets.

Its a song get into it enjoy it.

  • Good Point.

    I agree with you.

Jimmy Barnes (and Cold Chisel)is tops.

  • "No Aussies fought on the ground in Khe Sahn"

What you say is true. But, perhaps you're looking too much into it. My take on the song. Is that it's looking into the Vietnam experience as a whole. Perhaps I'm talking crap. But, that's how it seems to me. Tell me I'm talking through my arse if you want.

Still, as my Aussie mate daz says. This is an Australian anthem.

  • In early 1968 australia was a depo for quite alot of soldiers that fought in the battle of khe sanh in Vietnam. Maybe that fact leaves it even more open to interpretation ?

  • Story of my life! I was at Khe Sanh for some seriously bloody fighting. Took 100% casualties taking Hill 861 Khe Sanh. Returned on a Hospital plane. This song expresses the essence of guys that fought there in the mountainous Jungles DMZ/LAOS/VIETNAM border. Scaliforniaminutemen dot com "Hill Fights, First battle of Khe Sanh
