I would agree you are expressing yourself absolutely. My comment relates more to the other people in the room. They are not expressing themselves. They are expressing you. To be able to teach others to express themselves, not that would be expressive dance. Your moves are great, no doubt. And both choreography and freestyle are your expression, just not others.
expressive dance is about expressing yourself, not using someone else's choreography. its an in the moment thing. express from yourself....that is expressive dance.
Again, expressive means conveying a meaning, serving to express, etc...look it up. Becuz it's not a freestyle doesn't mean I'm not expressing myself. Choreography is basically an expression of one's self. Not just a freestyle. I freestyle as well but Expressive dance is not just defined as free form movement. Becuz a lyricist pre-writes his lyrics does that mean he's not expressing himself? it's just done in a way where its thought out.
I think it takes more creativity to think of how you want to convey ur movement according to the song. Again, I'm not trying to force my opinion on you, I'm just saying that there are other ways people convey the word expressive dance. it can go both ways.
