@RaisonnHead you wear a BCD (bouyancy control device) which is like a vest with air pockets that you can fill and empty; you also use the air in your lungs, take a deep breath and you go up, breathe out and you go down. The section you see in the video where we are going up and down is using the breathing technique.
I very recently got certified, Open Water. :] I did my 4 qualification dives in 2 degree Celsius water(in wet suit!), and by god I cannot wait to go to a warmer country to dive with fish and coral reefs! :D
I started my SCUBA diving course today :) 7 week course to get my Ocean diver licence. Can't wait to get stuck in and be able to dive in such beautiful places such as this!
I'm just learning how to dive, but it's kind of hard considering i'm no where near the ocean, so right now they teach us in a huge pool, then we go to this big river, but i'd rather go to the ocean :/ i just have to wait until i'm older to move.
yes fightsharkfishing24 but there are good scuba accident sites on the web too. try the myscubastory site. They have all sorts of dive stories and accident videos there. type myscubasory into google and its the first one. enjoy

This is great, I wish this is where I learned to dive. I did my open water dives in the Swan River in Western Australia. The conditions were shit, but it was still so much fun. I can't wait to go diving again, I'm just uncertain where locally.
my first dive i had a 5mm wet suite and a 5mm vest so i had to 10mm on my chest and i was freezing my ass off. we were lucky if the wat was pushing 64F

learnt do dive this summer. At Cyprus. And I can't wait to do it again. 1 day I want to go diving at the GBR, and I'm only 13 so time enough!! @bdriz16, it sure is fun ;)
@randombluepeople09 I'v actulay never dived my clostest was snorkling in guam but, I havint became a juior diver ether hoping to be come one this summer with my dad. He dives alot!
@Changchey No it is very easy. You start in a pool,in the shallow end standing and you breath through your regulator with your head in the air then you sit so your head goes under, breathing just happens and it is very easy, but when submerged if you roll over like laying on your back looking to the surface breathingh gets a little harder but not dffucult.
I was in Maui and at my hotel there was a scuba diving session thing for only 90$ and it was pretty good. 30 mins in the pool to train, and about 1 hour in the ocean i believe
@jman21121 maybe they were cleaning the inside of the mask, but it's something you must do if you go diving you must be able to remove the water from your mask underwater.
@jman21121 It is basic skills needed in case it is knocked off or fogs up,it is easy to clear the water out, just lean your head back hold to top of the mask and blow out through your nose, the seal right under your nose breaks as the preasure in the mask increases the water drains out from the lowest part.
This great video has been done by the digital-water team onboard kangaroo Explorer.. Any questions on the reef, underwater video or even camera rental, contac us on digital-water website.
haha cool - you did your training out in the ocean, we had to do ours in a pool. I bet that was exciting, knowing there was all that beautiful coral and life to look at but having to finish your practice! :-D
Tomorrow i'll be doing my final open water dive and if i complete that ill be a PADI OPEN WATER DIVER and i plan to do the under water photographer course and rescue diver
Damn...what a great place to learn. My Certification open water dives consisted of: Oregon coast, 40 degree air temp, 40 degree water temp, vis was less than 3 ft. LOL fun though.
superb... I live in india.. wanting to learn diving has been on my to do list for a couple of months... its barely known as a sport here.. I wud have to travel half way accross the country for it... BTW.. is SCUBA generally an expensive sport ?
Great video! I did a speech on oceans, and I really want to become a scuba diving-photographer! Well, pretty much oceanographer... but I have a question for you. Howw deep is the water there where you were diving? It looks pretty shallow. Thanks!
@Animaltricks18 i dont wanna burst your bubble or anything. but theyre is NO finding a job as a marine bioligist. Everyone wants to be a marine bioligist, its an easy degree, and there arent any jobs in it.
Yes and no. What you're describing is what's called "The Bends" where the nitrogren in your blood stream can turn to bubbles if you don't ascend correctly. A big part of the PADI training describes the procedures you should follow that would prevent this happening, e.g. using a dive computer or dive tables to plan your dive.
If you're doing simple shallow recreational dives like this, and following the (very conservative) rules then the chances of getting the bends are very small indeed.
In fact, the biggest risk of the bends if for very advanced divers that dive very deep (like 100m/300ft), and are required to do decompression stops during their ascent to reduce the nitrogen.
This is beyond the PADI Open Water certification whict most divers have.
Don't be worried. That's what the PADI course is for, they teach you what to do if that happens, for example sharing air with your buddy, using their spare regulator, or ascending to the surface.
The important thing of course is not to run out of air in the first place, the tank has an air gauge like a car has a fuel gauge, just look at it often and surface before you run out of air! Normally you start with something like 200 PSI, and surface when you get down to 50.
Is it dangerous to dive in Australia? I am in melbourne now and I wish to learn scuba diving but I was told that there are a lot of sharks in australia..^^
Dangerous? No. Not on the great barrier reef (as far as I know!). The dive boats wouldn't take you out there if it was dangerous. I think the great whites are more common down near Sydney.
Also, MOST shark attacks happen when a shark is confused in poor visibility and thinks a human in a wetsuit is a seal. The water around the great barrier reef is so clear that there would be little confusion like this.
im getting mine in england off the cooast of brighton in the south, i know there will be nowhere near as much species of fish but will the water be as clear and bright as it is in australia?
Any English Divers like to comment? I've heard good things about diving in the UK, but the sights won't be anything close to a tropical dive! I've only dived in warm waters :)
Diving in British waters is great we also have lots of corals 100's of wrecks from the misunderstanding with Germany which we had to explain to them twice.wonderful buddies who are used to to diving in less clarity making them more reliable elsewhere,
You need to check with the dive school you would like to learn with but I have read that for PADI the minimum age: 15 years old or 10 for PADI Junior Adventure Diver. I've also seen 12 years minimum noted at some schools. Do a google search for "PADI minimum age"
Which part of the video are you asking about? Towards the end of the video we all ascend as it's the end of the dive. Once you get the hang of equalizing your ears you shouldn't need to go up to clear them.
It just takes practice, learn the technique and do it often on the way down. Learn to feel the pressure on your ears that tells you when you need to clear them.
Excellent video mate. I am 16 years old and am in the UK. I have only ever done the basic PADI Open Water diver course in Cyprus last year. How much experience had you done when you went to the GBR? Also are you in the UK too? If so how much did it cost you? I would love to go to AUS sometime soon, just wandering if it would be possible for me to go where this was taken......hows the nightlife in AUS too? Cheers
We did the basic PADI training in a swimming pool in Cairns, then the open water park on the GBR from a liveaboard. It was back in 2000 but the cost was around 300 pounds. Cairns (like many places on the east coast) is an excellent place to visit - lots of British backpackers, lots of night life if you want it, lots of fantastic adventures. Go for it, you'll love it.
What a nice vid to take home when done with class!? It looks SO nice, I´m Swedish and have "only" dived in Egypt for a couple of years but have allways dreamed of GBR and its beauty! Thank you for this!
We had a professional underwater videographer shoot this, you can probably tell by the quality, and the fact that I'm in front of the camera and not behind it :)
This was a great Video!!! I an writing my comment on a tablet PC. Can you believe it? They ore coming out with a tablet Powerbook for under water computing Next Christmas by Apple
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes Australia is a long way, but it's certainly closer to the US than the UK. Of course if you live in the US then you're not too far from the Caribbean. There's some great Scuba there, e.g. Cozumel off the coast of Mexico.

Does the tank just contain pure oxygen or...?
itsameMARIO94 2 years ago
Generally it's just normal air, though it's filtered and the moisture is reduced before it's compressed. so 80% Nitrogen, 19% Oxygen and 1% other.
Advanced divers can also specialize in enriched air (Nitrox) which has a higher oxygen content and allows you to dive for a little longer.

djobeat 2 years ago
that depends on a number of factors:
1) how big your tank is
2) how quickly you breathe (which can be quite quick for beginners)
3) how deep you go
A typical recreational dive is of the order of 30 to 45 minutes.

Hi. I just got my diving certificate. And will have good tips how I can dive. I took the evidence in Norway, so I am well familiar with cold water
thanks

how deep im 12 and when i went scuba diving in cancun and the in structor pulled me down 50 ft and i could not clear my ears

im about to take my course....did you ascend so that you can clear your ears?

Which part of the video are you asking about? Towards the end of the video we all ascend as it's the end of the dive. Once you get the hang of equalizing your ears you shouldn't need to go up to clear them.
It just takes practice, learn the technique and do it often on the way down. Learn to feel the pressure on your ears that tells you when you need to clear them.

what web site did u go to or what number did u call cuz i want to learn to scuba dive and what type certification do u to dive in reefs
zac11090 3 years ago
There are many different scuba diving training centers all over the world. Do some reasearch on the web, e.g. google to find a company near you.
The certification I trained for was the PADI Open Water. This means you can dive in the sea or lakes etc with a buddy.
If you just want to try diving then most places do a 'try dive' or similar where you are guided by an instructor with minimal training required.

Dave

As a rookie did you get allowed to take this footage?
When I took my license the same place, I didn't think they allowed it:(

We had a professional underwater videographer shoot this, you can probably tell by the quality, and the fact that I'm in front of the camera and not behind it :)

Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes Australia is a long way, but it's certainly closer to the US than the UK. Of course if you live in the US then you're not too far from the Caribbean. There's some great Scuba there, e.g. Cozumel off the coast of Mexico.
