It's been since my high school rebellion that this song spoke to me. I'm 41, and this last year and my removal from my family and community and my God due to work...I needed to hear this.
I met Bryan Duncan in high school, and thought he was a celebrity like no other. I work with "celebrities" every day...and very little has touched me like hearing this song tonight.
1977, I remember walking forward with 2 of my best friends, at a SWC concert, we asked Jesus to forgive us and received Him as our savior. God has been FAITHFUL!
I knew Bryan from attending Harvest Fellowship in Riverside,CA. The I best recall, the song was loosely written about a conversation between two people at church, that hadn't seen each other in a while. (I think one was Bryan's G/F at the time.) We're talking 30 years +, and my memory isn't what it used to be... this and "You Don't leave Me Lonely" are my favorites by Bryan.
@podiodi I think it is about a long lost friend. One that fell into hard times. Then trying to get in touch with them to see how they have been. That is always how I took it. At any token it is a beautiful song. Brings back so many memories...
A song that takes me back to the late 70s when I was a Christian looking forward to growing up and also anticipating what lay ahead. Now that I know what life is about, how I long to return to that time when life was more innocent and the life experience that lay ahead was a fresh and exciting, anticipated future. Now that I'm here, I would give anything to go back, start all over again, and live life differently.
Bryan Duncan’s voice has a pure, almost elastic quality that conveys deep emotions of the heart. In his recent book, Dear God…REALLY? he captures the essence of human frustration that often exists, even while praying heartfelt desires to The God of the Universe. Duncan’s irreverent sense of humor & clever style reveal a man who wrestles with his sinful humanity-and with his Sinless Creator. In the final analysis, Bryan realizes, like Job, Who is Boss. I am so excited to find my step dad Rick and step uncle Kevin on youtube. They are truely the most humble people you would ever have the pleasure of meeting.
Come on,this is a classic.I´m from Costa Rica.I saw BD singing in Sky in line San Diego, what a voice he has, remember God´s gifs, and his frienship!!!! Donn´t keep thack of God
Probably saw this group in concert more than any other in the late 1970s - at Calvary Costa Mesa, Christian Night at Disneyland, etc. Hearing this song brings back those memories of more than 30 years ago. Thanks for posting!
I haven't heared this song in 23 years. I had a best friend in High School named Cheri. We talked about everything and often. She died at the young age of 21 over 20 years ago. She introduced me to this song. Since then, a marriage, a divorce, and wishing for a second chance. I miss her terribly now that I need that friend more than ever. Thanks for posting.
This song made me cry 20 years ago when I was a litle confused teen guy, I played on and on,when cds WHERE NOT INVENTED yet. THIS SONG HELPED ME GOING ON AND inspired me to keep my faith in Jesus .Haven t seen you for a long time, Bryan,God bless you!
oh man...On a shrug & hunch, I searched Sweet Comfort Band, expecting nothing...I squeeled when I saw this!!! Warm memories of my earliest days of being saved, and that familiar peace of a new understanding. THANK YOU for posting this song, from the bottom of my heart.
Alot of water under the bridge, choices made and a deeper understanding of this song than ever before. I haven't heard since the early 90's. My wife and I were once youth pastor . . . 15 years. Today I travel the world doing electrical work and wishing for a second chance.
Be encouraged! God never gives us only one chance. Use today what Hes given you, where He has put you. His mercy is new ever morning. His compassions never fails, they are new every morning Lamentations 3:22
Hey Craig, revelation 2:8 tell us to remember what God has done in our life, repent and change your mind and ways, and do the things we did at first. A second, third, f.... chance are only a prayer away. Hope you get back to those things you did at first
when i hear this, I am 30 again, older and sadder, and my last Christian girlfriend is creeping into and then slipping out of my life. Yearning for a twisted kind of love I couldn't give her, I was the line her drowning grip tried to pull down into her maelstrom. And after enough heartache of my own, I purposed to leave her in His hands and not try to be what she tried to make of me ..
She was, I think, a final test: 2 mos later, I met the girl who is now my wife of almost 17years. PTL
I can't believe I'm listening to this song. THANK YOU for posting it.
I dedicate this song to my best friend,Sharon, who introduced me to the Savior, Jesus Christ. Sharon, if you're out there, Tammy loves and misses you.
