it's to slow for a start , maiden sounds better with a bit of strings but what they have effectivly done is take all the power out of the song and make it sound like folk music! plus it takes both of them to match the power of bruces voice (nothing against blaze or his singing maiden wrote some wikid songs when he was in the band)

You can check it yourself if u get full concert video. It's around 1:07:30 after the slaughter kills the girl. Generally after the "bring your daughter to the slaughter" song
omg it sucks ... legends wrote that and made it their way to one of the greatest metal songs of all time ... then come 2 singer who have nearly nothing to do with the song and think it sounds great with an orchestra ... for those of you who read about maiden like me: nicko for example is extremely against this orchestra stuff, you can read it in the metal hammer magazine of august 2010 (german version, interview) ... the music is just so legendary and this is definetely NOT!
'Fear of the dark', the first Iron Maiden song I listenned to. It was in a LP store. A friend of mine worked there and put the Live at donnigton LP (a 3 record set) to play. It was love 'at first listenned'. Then, every time I used to go there, as soon as the girl realized I was there, she used to put the LP to play.
@minimerpmert Actually this is one of the songs Blaze does better than Bruce. Its purely opinion of course but the stuff off the first two Maiden albums and select songs from Fear of the Dark sound better with Blaze singing them than with Bruce. Need another example, search for Afraid to Shoot Strangers with Blaze singing and then listen to Bruce singing it. The more somber the tone of the song the better Blaze is.
@Urmothafu , you are right, but I think that's because he sang in another tune, in a lower one. He's not Bruce, so he does not need to sing as Bruce does. When he was the Iron Maiden singer, S. Harris should have changed the tune of the songs.

I think this COULD have been epic, as Doro and Blaze have both relatively deep voices, but the Orchestra does not play aggressive enough, and Doros voice comes to clean.
Blaze has a good acting, but his voice is somehow messed up, too.

She's one of the more important female figures in metal. She does a lot of covers; she's done Egypt (The Chains are on), by Dio and Breaking the Law by Judas Priest. I don't know much of her work, but I know she's quite well respected within the metal community.

I will say that I liked 'Silicon Messiah' MUCH, MUCH better than either 'X Factor' or 'Virtual XI'--though I did like about 5 songs total--and Bruce has since done his versions of ALL of them live! im not sure why everyone has to compare the two. they are so different, as you say. and both great. blaze has been very under rated, but that's what always happens when a frontman is replaced in a band. his solo albums are great and so are the two maiden albums with blaze.

Fear of the Dark is my favourite song of all time. That being said, the music on this does not work. The orchestra is too weak and the vocals struggle to create drama where it really kinda just sounds feeble.

I know for fact that Steve is quite aware of this happend, to do stuff like this, A band must ask the original song writer for permissions. Blaze and Steve are still good friends. and I agree Metaldo0d, its way to soft to be singd by Blaze., Long live blaze bayley! AND UP THE IRONS!

I haven´t seen this live, but from I see, and more important, what I HEAR is - it does not fit together.
It sounds to me like "Well, we tried, but we messed it up. Who cares..."
I think this COULD have been epic, as Doro and Blaze have both relatively deep voices, but the Orchestra does not play aggressive enough, and Doros voice comes to clean.
Blaze has a good acting, but his voice is somehow messed up, too.
However, I didn´t see this live, maybe it was good, but this is just average

She's one of the more important female figures in metal. She does a lot of covers; she's done Egypt (The Chains are on), by Dio and Breaking the Law by Judas Priest. I don't know much of her work, but I know she's quite well respected within the metal community.

interesting take on it 'rockraiser'...you may have something there. I will say that I liked 'Silicon Messiah' MUCH, MUCH better than either 'X Factor' or 'Virtual XI'--though I did like about 5 songs total--and Bruce has since done his versions of ALL of them live! Kinda proved to me that Steve had Bruce in mind when writing the material for those albums. Perhaps if Blaze were allowed to actually REALLY write for his vocal style the results would have been better? I like his solo stuff WAY more

Stop comparing Bruce and Blaze only because they both were in Iron Maiden. They have a different vocal style, and by the way I think that this version is not so bad. They should have added a second guitar, it sounds too 'symphonic'.

Hey mrfendebender--you know squat about me and my 'life'...I know how suck-ass Blaze is because I CAN sing the Bruce stuff--I am in a top IM tribute and play out just about every weekend...I run into about 1 person a MONTH (if that) who actually wants to hear a 'Blaze' cover--and it's always 'Clansman' or 'Sign Of The Cross'--because Bruce did them better. As a pro musician I know that Mr. Harris should NEVER have let someone w/so little range front the #1 metal band in the world. Blaze STINKS.

I happen to have several burned dvd's of Blaze from the 'X Factor' and 'Virtual XI' tours and the man is PATHETIC. I AM not only a fan of Maiden--I represent them in my band. I just told you I DID like a few of the MAIDEN tunes with him...about 5 or 6. And 'Silicon Messiah' was MUCH better suited to his voice. But he was NOT right tone-wise, pitch-wise, and has a limited range. You NEED range to do MAIDEN! It should have been a Steve Harris 'project'--bottom line. My hearing is NOT warped...I NEED to know when I'm 'in-key' in order to NOT sound like Blaze when I sing (lol)!!! C'mon man--lighten up. What are you a personal buddy of Blaze's? We're both IM fans!

You can ignore Blazes ovious talent as you do and tell me that he shows no vocal talent whatsoever on Sign of the cross, the clansman and man on the edge, But even bruce struggled with these songs, so much that they had to tune up a full step, Btw they never tuned down for blaze, Blaze not being able to sing songs in a completely different style to his comfort zone is irrelevant,

Ahh! At least you seem to like good music. Ozzy vs. Dio--I'm afraid to get into another argument about this...but I love BOTH eras of Sab...like I enjoy Deep Purple Mark's 2 and 3...yes--a 'clone' of Bruce would NOT be cool. BUT a man like Michael Kiske (who was rumored to have been in the running) would have been MUCH better than Blaze. I'm not saying Harris should have cloned Bruce--just should have gotten a BETTER 'unique' singer. And BTW--I prefer Dio to Ozzy. I think Sharon ruined Ozzy.

im not sure why everyone has to compare the two. they are so different, as you say. and both great. blaze has been very under rated, but that's what always happens when a frontman is replaced in a band. his solo albums are great and so are the two maiden albums with blaze.

Fear of the Dark is my favourite song of all time. That being said, the music on this does not work. The orchestra is too weak and the vocals struggle to create drama where it really kinda just sounds feeble.
Pity does not do it justice.
