  • How nice. Basing from the spinning of your wind turbines, your location has a good source of wind which is good. The higher speed, the more energy can be produced. Now, many people are now aware of the benefits from using wind turbines in generating your own free electricity. This is very helpful in managing our finances and saving money.

  • Happy Holidays! Liked this video.

  • nice

  • On an average day what does the wind turbine produce in KW? Thanks

  • UK planing restrictions still apply because New Labour lost the details of it in European legislation (vanished of the face of the planet it seems.)

Mine was redesigned and replaced with a solar tracker which is now permitted development without asking the local licence giving council .(Another way to tax you.

  • Hi Windy, do you know if you need planning permission to put a turbine on your roof, in the U K ?

  • so what does that power..and how much does it cost???? i want to put some up in mexico

  • awesome!!!! FREEDOM!!!

  • I have a couple of solar panels which give at best, 380W on a sunny summers day, a small wind turbine would be a great addition.

Good to know - anyone who is thinking about solar or wind, it's great, but remember that if is to be connected to a net connected system then the solar/wind supply can not be used as a backup, by law if there is a power cut, the solar/wind has to instantly cut off the supply to the net !

  • valid point

If you wire the mains circuits using dpdt switches like the video I posted you will be disconnected from the utility mains anyway so no problem.

  • @timmot123 There are systems like the one on my roof that have all the automatic transfer switching built into the system, comes with the home wind turbine kit. The specification for the grid-tie is UL1741. In the US, an alternative energy system that is grid-tied must meet this standard to be legal.

  • @WindPowerKits dear friend i am from pakistan... i am student... i wish to create a wind trbine with the help of Stand Fan or Seiling Fan... please help me in this case plzzzzz

  • Like the video, My install of home rooftop wind turbines and solar panels is in my videos, Subscribe to my channel if you like, I'll be posting more stuff showing my home wind turbine system. Thanks

  • does winter weather affect it at all

  • In winter the turbine produces the highest amount of power output.seal it up and its fine in winter.

  • @windysolar1 if your power goes out, what all can you run off of it

  • I use the turbine to only charge up my battery banks.

I use a Xantrex pro sine inverter to produce up to 1000w pf 230vac.

  • @windysolar1 is it noticeable on your power bill

  • good job at the turbine

  • How many amps/watts are you getting with this home wind turbine? Looks like it's holding up well for a home experiment turbine. What voltage are you charging to the battery bank on that home made system?

  • this has been redesigned and upgraded but is not working untill the current law changes in the UK

  • how is the vibration and balance on that turbine, it looks much more stable than most home-made turbines I have seen.

  • it was fine but I redesigned the mount and it will be back up later next year I hope.

  • Good on you. At least your trying to push forward.

  • The first thing I would do is switch off the fridge

it would save power and why is the water heating when no one is there ?

  • i have a 400 square foot house near the main i want to place a turbine or use some solar paneling to help with. it uses 6 kWh a day with no one in it. no a/c, no tv ... nothing except a water heater and frig going. so the cost is roughly $50 a month just siting there. what on earth is worth buying and installing that would save any money and how much would it save over how long?

  • is noisy the wind turbine?

  • No louder than the wind noise

  • WELL DONE GOOD JOB

  • go live by one for 10 years and tell me what you think then

  • we could stick them in an electric car, but before that the engines would last for thousands of years.

  • 69 baby

  • also you need to experiment with vertical axis wind turbine designs as they are less affected by turbulence

  • Man, I love shit like this...

  • Nice! Suggestion... Snatch a heater element out of an old dishwasher or stove and make a DC oven... ? Maybe I will... maybe I will ;o)

  • Very nice windysolar do you power youre house with solar and wind thanks for the info(;

  • Is it possible to mount several wind turbine a a roof? and how far apart do they have to be?

    Does anybody know?

  • as long as the blades don't touch the number is limited to the cost involved in getting the turbines

One is a good starting place but measure the average wind speed first over a long time to see if its viable.

  • Is it possible to have a double helix? I've never seen that it would be fun to try..

    thanx.

  • the distance rule is if one tower were to fail and fall it nor its mill blades should be able to hit any part of the nearest tower, guy wires or turbine and cause it to fail also, but as you can see from my vids we dont always stick to the rules

  • hi can i ask where you got this kit from?

im also looking to invest in wind energy

if you could give me a site that would be great.

    cheers

  • YOU SHOULD MOVE TO TEXAS ,THE WIND ALWAYS BLOWS THERE...

    It will drive you crazy....

  • That's because Oklahoma sucks.

  • the future'S energy if all of us ask for a change, greener, cheaper, and save

    CONGRATS!!!!!

  • It will not be cheaper.....................I

Their going to try to raise taxes on gasoline and coal fired power plants.....

And then we will kick them out in 4 years !!!!!!

  • First congrats on makeing the world a little greener, your windturbine works well,it looks as tho you have alot of wind there,im in canada and not alot of wind id say average 5m/s altho we get some nice gusts,im doing my home work first before i install a few windturbines i find them very interesting,i been checking out sites, videos, makeing notes,i think 3 turbines and 2 solar panels and id be off grid.I think 2 would heat my home[in floor electic],another and 2solar/wood stove would do it,ideas?

  • Nice work.

  • very nice ... GOOD JOB

  • very nice ... GOOD JOB

  • Great work!

  • Nice job mate better than paying £850 for similar, on f/energy pmg watch out for moisture& rust getting behind black prop boss, bearing starts squeeking then goes lazy =no power (id on mine), not sealed properly either end unfortunately

  • Thanks for the comment

My turbine is not in the sky at the present but will be back up real soon once a few mods are finished and there should be a vid showing the erecting of the tower and turbine with the help of many friends.

Keep an eye on my site for new vids.

  • that's very awesome. I wish I had to brains to do one of these. You could probably make some money writing a book on 'how to' for this.

  • show us how to make it!

  • Nice idea but probably more losses of power.

think I will just mod the mount.

  • yes it will furl when I have finished the tail construction

  • does it furl? I' planning my own axial flux now.

  • sorry about the spelling ,cheap keyboard.

  • Fist thing is to check what your average wind speed is before buying anything .

you may not have enough wind.

futurenergy build a good slow spinning turbine which will work fine (same generator as mine ) and at £650.00 a bargain check out what voltage is required 12v 24v 36v 48v ?.

I recommend a SMA Sunny boy controller to go with a wind turbine SB1100lv 24v to 60v input with 230v output.G83 compliant,About £700.00 for the sunny boy.pus tower and extras.

  • Hi,

Just very interested - what power wind turbine would you recommend to have electricity and heating for a private home of 150 m2?

  • outstanding job...no bills no worries..

  • What's the power output in Watts?

  • 600watts at 50amps at 380rpm but in a gale upto 1000watts as long as its well mounted on the ground.

    so build them strong.

When I erect it very soon I am planing to video the whole procedure for all to see on youtube.

It should be a great video and very informative.

  • us a tranformator

  • As far as I can see the government in this country doesn't want us the public to control any part of our lives and this includes saving and producing power, because this reduces tax from the power company pocket and takes it away from the politicians who so really enjoy spending our money. This is my only goal in life to take money from them where it hurts in there pockets(they just waist it so I want to save it)and yes I originate long ago from Scotland I am Told.

  • @windysolar1

I have to agree with that comment. It is always like that. If they don't want to make the changes, we have to ourselves. Nice work.

  • How much did it all cost to buy and install, and how much are you saving each year? I'm thinking of doing one myself.

  • This is an old vid now ,but the newly designed improved turbine will be back up at 10m hight as soon as planning restrictions are not needed when Europe have finished scrutinising its spec for the UK

  • cool i am in the usa and we the hole country should do it

  • neat, more of us should be doing this!

  • Very Very Cool Wind generator, Reading the comments though sounds like some of you people are scared of your own shadow. Big government is shit don't invite problems. If you feel there is a safety Issue with some units, set up your own club or board and create specs for people to use, make your club like a co-op no one person the owner. But for god sakes (keep your own control not the Government) allot of stuff has been shelved by the big business that controls the Government.

  • whats is your battery bank voltage?

    12vdc?like car battery?

what will happen if turns more the 380RPM?...if higher wind speed(storm)

the voltage will go higher right?

    sorry just learning!

  • the voltage of the bank is limited to 13.6v by the charge controller when charged,it also limits the blades speed at higher rpm.when the voltage is higher the controller passes the extra volts to the dump load and heats water.

  • thanks...i still need more to learn

  • Forgot to mention that my charge controller limits the charging to 14.6v when charging and when its charged up the bank it floats (trickles)the battery's at 13.6v.then when the voltage drops to 10.00v (you use some power) it then starts the cycle all over again. If you can produce enough watts the battery's never get flat.bit of a balancing act.you can drew direct from the power sorce if you produce enough.

  • that's pretty good wind turbine

  • i found some help full tips with a turbine company called BREEZY just search Breezy 5.5 on google you should find it

  • Are you people just daft? This video is about wind power generation, not bleeding insurance companies! This is a very viable green alternitve to grid power. Thank you Windysolar1 for posting this video. And you other dumb *ucks, go someplace else and whine.

  • After experience with Whisper 100 just installed to supply our office PCs:

    1) Wind energy is not so easy energy: much t more powerful is grid energy of cause.

We used to use much more energy when we expect: even for coputers and lamps!

Even after 2 days of good winds we have no enough green power produced to work further only on this.

    thus:

    2) Economy is also good way to be "greener"!

    3) Hibrid office is a good choice. Forget refunding, it will be too long-time. But stable V is nice!

  • Wouldn't something like that be quite useful for a greenhouse heating system during the winter? 200w is barely enough to power a modern computer system, but it could probably manage a sun-lamp or something.

    Nicely done either way.

  • my computer uses 160w and that includes a samsung pebble 20inch hd monitor 1080p

its not how much you go but how little you can get away with that counts.

  • My computer is 650 watts not including the monitor or any peripherals.

  • Yeah, leave the guy alone.

There are windmill companies that have built water pumping mills and are still operational after 100 years. These are useable.

  • Leave the guy alone, he makes a quality windmill and anything with an engineering aproach with safety factors will be a safe design.(As he clearly says doubled the safety factor) Quit complaining about a nicely constructed windmill and source of energy and go burn some more fossil fuel and pay your homeowners insurance and buy a thicker wood door, ya nut!

  • Can anyone tell me, were i can find to buy a magnet alternator for make mine wind turbine??

    Thanks for advance...

  • 30th November 2007

The Government has announced that microgeneration technologies will from April 2008 become permitted development. This means householders will be able to take up microgeneration, within sensible limits, without having to apply for planning permission.

  • What are they doing about homeowners insurance? Doesn't the risk of these things falling or blades flying off increase the risk of injury to the homeowner or a neighbor?

  • not if they are built strong with the right materials

think about the next time you cross the street, look for a bus.

  • A bus is not an object spinning at high RPM's towering over my head in my backyard. Turbines can deteriorate from UV rays, weather, bolts, cables, fasteners rusting and snapping, ice flying off of blades, blades flying off etc..it is just a matter of time before people are injured and they ban these in suburban areas or insurance companies refuse to insure homeowners that have them. There is a video on YT of blades that flew of and went through a steel roof and into a wooden door.

  • the point I am trying to make is if it is built correctly it will work but the builder must know what he is doing.

I have seen the aid you mention and its a homebrew and crap in my opinion.

  • Not the video of the homemade turbine with the wood blade. This is a name brand turbine that came apart in the wind. The blade went through a corrugated steel roof and then through a wooden door.Who is going to make sure they are built, installed and maintained correctly? The only way too do it would be by certified installers and annual inspections or there would need to be a new government organization that inspected them, in which case you would need to buy a permit, license, etc to pay for it.

  • yes I did mean that one ,a blade broke and went into a door and through a corrugated panel.there are loads of crap turbines out there from China that are completely rubbish

  • (I for one would not buy one as they junk and they don't produce enough power)My machine is using a Futurenergy front end and the mount and electrics are my design.

Made to last 25 years at least.

the futurenergy has lots of marks of approval in the Uk so its quality assured and my engineering is fist rate.

Do you think the government should be trusted with another license ?

    I think not.

  • ok, so it was a turbine from a factory...so who is going to regulate that there are not crap turbines being bought and installed and that they are being installed and maintained correctly? I notice I get thumbs down for saying these things... I guess I am being misunderstood.I have nothing against wind power and do not want any more government regulations, taxes, license bureaus, social programs, subsidies, organizations etc. I am just pointing at what will most likely happen.

  • Why in the world would you want to let "Big Brother" tell you what you can and cannot have in your house/yard/life/etc.... Away with big government and back to the people running their own lives. If your scared of a flying piece of metal then don't put one in your yard. I live on 2000 acres and I have over 200 planes fly 20,000 ft over my house every day. Do you think we should ban airplanes from flying over homes? There have been a lot more of those hit people than wind gens.

  • You live on 2000 acres do whatever you want. The problem in residential or suburban areas is the metal, plastic or tower etc doesn't stay in your back yard if these things fall, blow apart, come apart etc! Your airplane analogy is ridiculous. Would you fly on a plane built by anyone and flown by anyone?

Planes are regulated by many FAA safety regulations. They require a license to fly. Planes are licensed and must pass annual inspections.Commercial planes require mandatory maintenance etc, etc.

  • Big Government is never in anyones best interest. I just cannot understand why anyone would ask a government to come in and tell them how to live. The same thing could be said about flag poles or just about anything. Could they be dangerous yes, but so is that pit bull in your neighbors yard, and more people have been killed by dogs than windmills. You just can't predict the future and a government agency isnt going to be able to either; lets all wear helmets and wrap ourselves in bubble tape

  • I never said I wanted big government to do anything. I was saying what the government and insurance companies will do after people start getting injured.Flag poles do not have spinning machinery that weighs a hundred lbs or more on top of them. About 99.9% of residential FP's are 4-5 ft, weigh 1-2lbs and are attached to homes about 6-8 ft high at an angle.I can assure you if everyone had a 40 ft flagpole and people got injured from them falling over the government and insurance would step in.

  • The Government only steps in when the people demand it.

There is nothing dangerous about the turbine... the only hazardous part is the prop. You can build a housing around it (like a jet engine housing) and it would contain any parts if there was a failure and still allow air flow through the device. You don't have to have the Gov. to make that happen ... you just need informed buyers/builders.

  • Sometimes the Gov does that even when people don't demand it. Sometimes they do it, even when the people are AGAINST it, and demanding them to stop. Anyone who doesn't like it has three options; deal with it, ex-partiate, or try to stop it...

  • My old insurance company charged $350 a year for hazardous pet liability because I have a dog in the middle of the country. They also charged another $200 because my children have a trampoline. I am now with an insurance company that doesn't penalize me for having a life, pet, children or allowing them to enjoy themselves. Whats next ... they charge you more if you children ride a bike? If people do nothing of course they will take every dollar out of your pocket.

  • if they are that bad you put a cage around the blades

  • I'd like to know, how to build one.

  • There is loads of info all over the internet

but as a start look up Hugh pigget.this man knows all about wing turbines

  • Nice work :)

It's good to see many people from all over the world try their hand at wind power.

I would next try making a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) if I was you. The ones I like are the helix, the lenz turbine, the darrius and the tesnic. They are not as efficient as the conventional type but they work better in more turbulent conditions. I.e. You can mount them lower.

  • My passionate dream is to build my own one of these and it is becoming real thanks to Steve Irwins 'can do anything with love' approach I founded onedollarcarboncredits dot com to initiate such a wind farm project. It takes many drops to fill a bucket especially with a hole in the bucket. Well done on your Green Efforts.

  • get it up higher. my little air-X is at 100 feet above ground on a tower i assembled. it really gets some speed up there. i sold my gas generator when i put it up from 45 to 100 ft. very big difference.

    chris

    greenmountainsolar dot com

  • If you go twice as high away from all the rooftop and other stuff you will probably double you output. My machine destroyed iteself today from high gusting conditions. Darn!!!, but my PV actually does allmost ALL of my charging work anyhow. My batteries are regular golf cart types and are going on 6 years strong.

  • all wind turbines are not equil as I have found, sorry to hear about yours

  • thanks. Mine is/was an air 403. Not sure yet what failed. Hopefuly only brake switch. I wish I had thrown a rope over it and let it wrap itself stopped. It would have saved it. Blade throw is a serious danger. I made a video which can be seen on youtube. The little toggles are prone to failure, so be aware of that. An industrial blade switch would probably be more reliable than the little toggles commonly used. Most of us out here use wind gennys.

  • It may not be much to some but its a start which is more than some people do in life.most people just complain and do nothing.

  • hehe i agree this world is full of... ... poeple that just complain. i wonder how much electricity have you got out of this already, do you have an idea?

  • I have been trying to get the xantrex c60,s digital display but will get one soon as this will give me watts anps and volts over time.the turbine is being relocated very soon to a better site 30ft up

and the mount should be in Aluminium to save weight

but it has to be thick metal and welded properly.

whatch this space for a new divx video rearl soon.

    thanks for the comment

  • Putting solar panels and wind turbines on houses will no longer need planning permission, the Government said yesterday.Ruth Kelly, the Communities Secretary, said most homeowners will not need formal authorisation for "microgeneration" technology if it is clear that there is little or no impact on neighbouring properties.

  • Strange thing wind power, no one ever seems to factor in cost such as lead-acid batteries, the cost of the inverter, and the relatively short life of your battery (about 3 years)to replace. If wind energy is so good why do they use generators on off shore oil platforms?

  • Why use batteries when you can use an inverter to feed the electricity directly into the powerlines? (And make your meter go backwards!)

Or why have an inverter, when you can store the electricity on the batteries and use 12 V DC?

Recommend you should do some reading.

But of course, wind energy is not that powerful.

  • the only way I learn is doing it,you can only learn so much from books.

  • Why use batteries: power when grid is down (if you live on the grid) and cost of grid inter-tie inverter is pretty high here in US ie: several thousand dollars. More cost than a small battery bank. Though manufacture energy etc. etc. is high. 12VDC is a pain in the ass. Inverting and using regular power for TV, Computer, compact flouresant bulbs, etc. etc. is much more efficient and simple.

  • top quality batterys cost loads but live for 10 years plus if treated right and not over charged

  • batteries well charged and not drained down too low will last much longer than 3 years. Mine are going on 6 years. Off grid, the wind plant is a good contributor to keeping me in power. Inverter (1000watt) cost me under $100 US. C40 charger cost me under $200 US. I Live very comfortably. I I needed daylight on an oil rig 24/7 I would use a generator too. Different situation. My 1600 amp/hour battery bank cost me $300 used golf cart anual swap outs.

  • high quality battery's last 15 years plus

some last 30years if looked after corectly

  • how do you get wire it and still utilize the local power company?

  • I intend to first run all the house lighting on a small changeover switch.this will allow me to use my wind and solar together from the batterys which charge up day and night time.

I am looking into a G83 connection box for the future but first I have to relocate the wind turbine to a higher set of poles about 10m high.more wind and more constant.

  • The wind turbine cost approx £650.00 to build but this includes a Xantrex C60 charge controler and home made tower plus a few other bits.

I am testing some solar panels at present from ebay and a short video will soon be posted 26/1/2007.

  • What'll it be?

  • This is great, everyone who owns a home should invest. So if you don't mind my asking, how much for the whole set-up including the panels? Im want to invest for my parents home.

  • about £650.00.much cheaper than B&Q.s £1500
