When you mentioned a church for AI, it made me think of the program red dwarf. The mechenoid 'kryten' believes in a 'silicon haven' that drives him and many other robots with AI to serve humans. And when the character Lister tells him that only humans have a haven he says 'that was all just a lie to keep you all from going crazy' I love that quote. If you have never seen the series red dwarf, I highly recommend it.
I don't think Nicholas Cage is that bad. Then again I've never seen the remake of The Wickerman. I avoid remakes almost as a natural reaction to the fact that they exist. However, I did enjoy the 78 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and I've seen the most recent one, although I did find it awful.
Anyway, Nicholas Cage is pretty good in Face Off. I also liked him in National Treasure and The Weatherman. I think his style of acting is suitable for some roles, but he's not overly adaptable.
1) talisha or latisha? 2) rice or nann? 3) lager or ale? 4) cheddar or mature stilton? 5) fundamental or mental? 6) marmite? (discuss) 7) free range or bargain? 8) stereo or mono? 9) kurasawa or ozu? 10) butchery or butcher? 11) broccoli or cauliflower? 12) ladies and gentlemen? (discuss) 13) wher has'thy bin since i saw thee? 14) morse or frost? 15) fruit or pudding? 16) do U know where i can get some nice 78s?
If... When true AIs are around would you prefer them as just sentient robots (Transformers) that life among us or one or two big AI (Colossus ;#1) that would take over the world to rule (for) us?
but you don't have to answer this question since you said that it may become a new video with this topic.
Hell yeah :). Weave World is actually one of my favourite books full stop. I first read it when I was 11 (my Mome gave it to me on the basis that it was "too weird" for her) and it completely blew my mind.
you forgot asimov on the future of AI. for shaaame. however you are forgiven by mentioning mary shelley, "modern prometheus, frankenstien" i was FLOORED when i read that book. she was so young when she wrote it, thats what gets me.
Very enlightening indeed. That was a very interesting Q&A session - in a good way of course. Normally in Q&As on YT you just get quick answers but with you we also get a bit of the background onto why. Loved that and it also spawned a new set of questions based on your answers. So I hope your doing another one soon... or I'll just PM them (if you like) ^^
but you could do me a favour - don't call me Sir. you've managed to make me feel 10 years older ;)
And I've found something we disagree on lol. I love Nicholas Cage movies but I have to admit you savd yourself from wasting a good couple of hours of your life by not watching Knowing. I was going to do a Tf review next but I may do a semi review on that instead
Hey Mr.B; most definitely not my intention; that's just the way I speak. Besides, using big words doesn't make me or anyone particularly clever; it just means that I read probably more than is good for me ;)
Thank you Tattimus; I didn't think I was going to post it when I first recorded it to be honest; for some reason i felt I'd just rambled on about nothing and got nowhere :).
I suppose more in respect of the first concept. As you believe that AI is possible, then do you believe the sense of I is the same as sentience and/or an emergent property? I don't personally believe it's possible.
It's hard to explain my take on this briefly, but if I did so it might clarify things. It would take three comment boxes so I feel the need to ask for permission. Don't want to hog attention. Even I'm a bit tired of my views now though so feedback might help me.
Hey Gerontodon, I don't think there's any definite answer, rather that it comes down to subjectivity and semantics (as these things are wont to do): the notion of "I" could be very simply classified as the sense of one's own existence; the ability to comprehend that there is an object that exists and that object is me or one's definition could be somewhat more complex in that the sense of "I" could be something that accrues and develops over time. Please feel free to comment...
Did you ever read "The Necroscope Series" by Brian Lumley? Man that stuff was strange. I was very young when I read that. Probably too young. Check it out on Wikipedia or something... if's it's on there.
I've read a couple of Brian Lumley's short stories but I've never read Necroscope. Didn't he also do a series of novels based on H.P. Lovecraft's "Old Ones" mythology?
You think the idea of the android soul would make a nice short story, I wonder if you've read Asimov's foundation series (even though that is anything but a short story) & what do you think of Red Dwarf coming back?
Hi Tempus, It wasn't specifically the notion of the android soul as such; there are quite a few books, movies etc that alreayd deal with that (even Terminator 2 technically touches on it); rather the concept of a church or a religion that caters to artificial intelligences. I like the idea of re-writing biblical mythology in a cyber-punk style :). I'm hopeful but not entirely convinced concerning Red Dwarf's return; series 8 was appallingly bad; all of the wit and clever commentary of...
I can't help but agree on the Red Dwarf front and with regards to your re-writing of the biblical mythology you'll have to read it when you start writing. If you do I'll start reading what will one day become my attempt at the proverbial book everyone had in them :)
Another beautiful amalgamation of thoughts and ideas from the collective conscience mind of the on-line community, brought to life by the elequent and seductive tones that I have come to define as part of your trademark videos. What a fuckin' mouthful. Great Vid George!! 5/5
Well I am a songwriter after all. Poetry to a certain level is in me whether I like it or not. In fact, I believe it's in everyone. It's just a shame that alot people don't like to explore in too fine a detail exactly what their mind is capable of. It scares them on a sub-conscious level for some stupid reason or another that I can't fathom.
Another Cage hater, YES!! 5 stars George, eloquent as always :)

and in your wandering throu out time did you ever encounter a small blue police box with a strange light on top?
Have you read any of Neil Stephenson's books?

Colossus, the novel by Dennis Feltham Jones
