You can pretty extensively adjust the controls for this, I recommend sticking the strafe left/right above the firing button (keeping the move forward/back where it is in this video), because strafing is important with bosses. I just tried out the first episode and it is much more difficult fighting bosses, mainly due to the slower movement.

The platinum version is just an update that came out a while after. Anybody who purchased the original version will get the update for free. Its just 'The Spear of Destiny' added onto the original game.
