If u wanna get ya hands dirty, instead of using a pastry cutter u could use the rubbing in method by gently rubbing the mixture between your finger tips. Would be fun for kids :o)
Oh and it also goes nice with rhubarb, apple and cinnamon, plum, gooseberry, any fruits that will stew well. For a little extra crunch on the top u can sprinkle some Demerara sugar on the top before baking.
Hi, Betty. I was wondering if I don't have to put any kind of nuts in this recipe or will it just effect the taste or something? Oh and one more thing, can I use a potato smasher instead of a fork or that pastry cutter?
@jazzycandycane You may omit the pecans; I make it that way sometimes, and it's great! Yes, you may use a potato masher or fork to crumble the topping.
I just watched you make the cherry crunch dessert. Looks good and easy to make. I was looking around to find a cherry pie recipe . You gave me an idea to make the cherry crunch . Im going to a family Xmas gathering and I'm sure they will like it.
Hi betty this is vince and I have been watching your videos since then. I love baking that is why. I would just like to ask how many grams are there in a box of flour in this recipe.. tnx so much. I hope I could receive your reply before this xmas. Tnx so much!
i just watched your cherry crunch recipe and wanted to tell you i'm going to make that for thanksgiving this year:)
also your grilled shrimp/prawns look just great. i'm going to the farmer's mkt in a few min. so i can stock up on some heritage tomatoes, local limes and maybe one of those great little cherry pies that the baker family sell---i love farmer's mkts.
maybe you and rick can visit a local one. lex is good,
I am not a cook or baker. Yet I've made this pie SEVERAL times over to bring to family get-togethers; and my 5 yr. old daughter & I made 3 of these pies a couple weeks ago for 3 Teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.
So easy - so delicious, and it's a WINNER each and every time. Thank U Betty, once again!
My 5 year old daughter & I just made 2 of these for the first time, one for her Teacher and one for our family. First, it was easy, and second, it was so good! I would like to emphasize "easy". I've watched so many of your videos, as I am a not educated in cooking, baking, or kitchen technique. My Mother always shooed me out of the kitchen and my husband is a gourmet cook and constantly corrects me. I'm rarely in the kitchen. Thanks for this one!
I like listening to your voice =) and that looked really good at the end! =D but can you also add something to the cake/butter mix to make it a TINY bit more sticky? so it won't fall apart when you try and take a piece of it =P.
Looks real good though! I really wish I had some cake at the moment.... dang haha
@tanya9nithreus I like it crumbly, but it you want the topping to be like cake, just mix up the ingredients on the cake mix and pour that over the top of the cherry pie filling and bake it in the oven according to the cake mix directions!
@bettyskitchen Ahhhh lol ok =]. Thanks for the tip! I'm trying that the second i get a chance..... i havn't had something sweet in so LONG! xD it's no good to be deprived of it like that xD haha. I usually like it very crunchy and or moist =P
@tanya9nithreus If you want it a bit less crumbly, but not cake-like, you could try adding some more butter to the mix, which I think should make it more like a Swedish smulpaj (literally "crumb pie", but not quite like the British version with the same name either), which is like a crumble, but not quite as crumbly (but still not a cobbler)...
@FaerieDust Hmmmmm... sounds good! =] Yep! I definitely don't want it to be a spongy cake like pie ^^. I'll try adding some butter the next time I make this =P. I havn't made it myself yet, but my aunt made one for me x). It was PRETTY GOOD already actually haha x).
Oh great thanks Betty! Your so good about getting back to us all and I know that takes up your time...so THANK YOU! I'm gonna go look for those suggestions right now. Thanks again Betty !!! Keep um comin' ; )
Thanks for showing that! Looks great! So glad its been around your family so long.I can't wait to make this. My hubby has a sweet tooth and I know he would luv it! Me too; ) When we finish your pineapple blueberry magic cake then I will try this.I wanna get my daughter in the kitchen & have her help me make this. Kids in the kitchen are fun. Do you have any more of these quick "box cake mixes" you can show us? There so good and so easy Betty. Oh by the way, I luv the way your doing your hair ;)
Thanks for your sweet comment! I have some desserts that are similar to "box cake mixes." You could search for crumbles, crisps, crunches--they are usually combined with fruit.
i like it so much better with the margarine melted. I also add lemon juice to the top of the cherries and dont use nuts. i have been making it for 30 years also
The recipe is yummy! I eat all the foods that I like--just in small portions. You may have noticed I save calories in my cooking wherever I can--I do low fat and low sugar, as long as it doesn't affect the taste. Some recipes just have to be standard--like this one, except for the "no sugar added' cherry pie filling! It works for me, but I stay on top of it *all* of the time! My husband and I eat all of the food I cook, but we freeze the leftovers for later.
WOW Betty. I just came upon this video and you can sure tell that the quality and your personality has changed alot over the years!! -Angie

175g/6oz Flour
75g/3oz Butter or margarine
75g/3oz Sugar
Any chopped nuts to give it extra texture or flavour 2oz. Looks nice though Betty, I am a pastry chef if u ever wanna few ideas or anything. :o)
