Lucy & Pat DiMauro - I am still waiting for full-and-complete-disclosure under the Laws of the Freedom of Information/Privacy Acts Request Numbers 1176234-000 (Pat DiMauro, Senior) and 1177597-000 (L.A. DiMauro). Wednesday, February 22, 2012 (C.E.), 4:47 AM (Earth-Eastern Standard Time)
"there will be another song for me, & I will sing it, There will be another dream for me someone will bring it". What lyrics, it gives me hope that one day I will find some one to love after many years of looking. Thank your for the song Donna.
I was about 15 yeas old when i first heard Donna Summer for the first time. I instantly fell in love with her music. Especially that i grew in the disco era. I used to do the hustle, and became when good at it. I couldnt wait to hit the club scene. I miss those good ol days!!!!
When I was ten years old, my parents had this very same statue on the mantle of our apartment. Exactly. And, one day, I grabbed it, and I was using it as a microphone. I was singing, “MacArthur Park”, and I got to the part about, “I’ll never have that recipe again,” and it slipped out of my hand and it broke. My parents looked at me like I smashed the ten commandments. To this day, they bring it up. It was the single most damaging experience in my life, aside from seeing my father naked.
@AsquaredRom :D Your comment "the cake is a lie" reminded me of the sith code in star wars "piece is a lie." I had to make a new version inspired by you:
We are all racist. Black, White, Japs, Chincs, etc. We are all drawn to our own kind. We can all get along but it takes work and just not taking every comment so seriously. We will never be color blind. But we can still get along in a livable situation.
I did this just last night! I left the whole damn thing in the rain SOOOOOOOOOO embarassed! im such A jerk!!!! IT Was MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! OHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AHHHHHHHHHHahahahaha
Boy!, I was lucky enough to be dancing this and most of Miss Summer songs in Discos in Acapulco in the late 70´s & early 80´s, wasn´t I a really lucky one!
TOO BAD FOR YOU, SAYING HE IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA, BECAUSE OF COURSE EVERYTHING STARTED WITH HIM. WAKE UP, RACISM RULES IN AMERIKKK.
@oj9561 Most people who hate him won't admit that they hate the fact that a man who has brown skin is president. They don't care that GW Bush did a great deal to damage this country. They are blind to the truth. They won't listen to what anyone says.
@oj9561 Seriously? AmeriKKK? And yet Obama was elected president. And yet the front runner in the Republican campaign in Herman Cain. But of course someone's criticism of Obama must be because they're racist. Not because of anything he has or hasn't done in office, or some disagreement in policy. That would just be silly.
@ahfaxthis well whats funny about that, is that most gay men like her music, LOL! I don't care if she hates gay people, I still like her music, AND I AM GAY!
@seikogoldwatch2009 Relax. He made a spelling mistake you uptight fuck. That comment made me laugh and it is the comment with the most thumbs up. So get over yourself.
Thank you God for music, which speaks to us all! I am so blessed to have had the chance to be at the disco's as the dj would spin this song and although there was massive hatred going on in the world,we would all party our asses off. Shout out to everyone from the 70's who just loved life.
yes we cook a relationship!! we break eggs, we break nerves put some spice and suddenly storms are coming! our hearts start to rain! and all our cookies are gone vasted!
I bought KISS CREATURES OF THE NIGHT the day it came out on LP, opened it up, put it on my record player .......And THIS song started playing. I was like HUH? so i put the needle to teh 2md song & it was still Donna summer, 3rd,4th,5th,flip the album, donna summer .......Looked at the label.......it said KISS CREATURES OF THE NIGHT & listed the KISS songs. so I returned it,only to get another that was the same way.took it back & finally got one that was KISS.
''I only remember her struggling with a song once, and that was ‘MacArthur Park’. It had such a vast range, she had to have a few goes at it, but otherwise she was truly a one-take artist. She was the real thing; an absolutely phenomenal singer with a full-throttle voice whenever she wanted, a fantastic tone and always in tune.”
i've loved this song forever!! and next month i'm going to LA for the first time, i'm going to MacArthur Park and i'm going to sit there and listen to this song!! it's going to be a dream come true!
The cake is her relationship with her boyfriend which she nurtured and worked hard to create. She really cherished it. The boyfriend for some reason or another decides to end the relationship in a very callous and uncaring way. Hence the part, "...someone left the cake out in the rain." She is so hurt by this that she is despondent and doesn't see how she can ever have something special like that again. Hence the words, "...it took so long to bake it and I'll never have that recipe again..."
@squidman22 that's all very interesting, but donna summers didn't write this song.it was written by someone ELSE.donna summers is a careerist & i doubt if she cares that much for genuine relationships with the opposite sex.
This is QUALITY - Juices flow hella over - Memories yank twitches and tears - Beat assassinates senses. Must be Donna Summer. if - IF - I had even one critical point, it would be the: screeching "AH HAA AA" (at 1:48 initially & later). For me, that is the only contrived and unnecessary distraction from a Donna Seduction - We applaud your posting of this. Thanks catteryk
Or when William-(James T Kirk)-Shatner did that god-awful version of,what was it,"If" ? I can't recall which song he fucked up so I may have got it wrong. But I know what you mean about Richard Harris & his dire attempt at this song,he just ruined it!
alright!! the macarther park extended MONO version, previously availiable only with the purchase of an RCA VICTOR 1939 selecto gramaphone 78rpm record player.!!
@zukudee The cake melting in the rain are her tears falling for the relationship she let slip away. She will never get it back. She'll never have that recipe again... for a great love she let go. "After all the loves of my life you will still be the one."
@StarRider1250 - I know Richard Harris did this in 1968 or so, and if you put in "SCTV - Mel's Rockpile" you can see how they spoofed his version - it is hysterical. There were huge instrumental breaks in his version and SCTV sort of "ran with that" on their spoof.
Not the Original version, but Donna made it a Classic of her own. Once must agree it is a Beautiful Arrangement and she still sings it just as Beautifully as ever. I'm sure the writer must of been pleased with version as she did it well. Royalties aside she did him proud. Jus ' Saying..

I know I know you're thinking "Oh man another song about pastry products and percipitation" but of all the songs that speak of the dangers of desserts and inclement weather this one is the best.
NADA COMO RECORDAR MIS MEJORES TIEMPOS DE MIVIDA CUANDO TU ESTABAS A MI LADO BAILANDO SIEMPRE AL ESCUCHAR ESTE TEMA TE VOY A RECORDAR CON GRAN APRECIO
live & let live, donna was the best disco singer of all time! & she was & is as sexy as ever!.. so fuck the cake & the drag shit!, i agree she should of never covered this song tho.
Classic track. I'm not sure this song had an official 'long' or 12" version. The album version (part of the MacArthur Park Suite) was about 8:25. The single version was right at 4:00. I think the mix featured here was featured on a promotional single release.
C'mon dude seriously don't blame it on someone else when your favorite dessert is subjected to the elements. Yeah I know it sucks but ya know what? If you liked it so much why didn't you bring it in?. People really got to start being more responsible with there baked goods.

Look, people, if someone can bluff with their muffin and not be criticized then someone can leave the GD cake in the rain.

Richard Harris did not write this song, he performed the original version of it. The song was written by songwriting legend Jimmy Webb.

Disco didn't make this song any better, just more tolerable! I don't think I can take it!
