  • Lol the university of phoenix isn't a real college

  • @bakeland1 This was at Phoenix College, not University of Phoenix.

  • That was amazing. So many people cant sing this right, they sing through their noses and slide. But this man was great, he had an amazing voice.

  • I kind of love this a lot. Absolutely perfect and I'm a huge fan of the musical.

  • really nice vibrato. im singing this for an audition and am really nervous!!!! :p

  • Beautiful voice, but I have to agree. It was a bit operatic, I felt. When you got to "Where does it say you've gotta live and die here? etc..." There should have indeed been more angst and tension because the song is about how a 17 year old feels lonely and beaten down by his own world. Otherwise, great stuff!

  • If you want to reach me directly, my email is tactus60 (at) gmail (dot) com.

  • I am planning a memorial celebration for Dan Hooper in Phoenix on May 15th. I will let you know more details.

  • Lovely job. Seeing Dan in this video choked me up. I really miss him. Rest in peace, Daniel Lee Hooper.

  • @maestrohughes Oh my God! I had no idea he had died. Im sad to hear it. Id been thinking about him quite a bit lately and thought about going back to him for more lessons. He was a good singing teacher and a nice man.

  • NICE

  • it was good but be angrier and dont sing it so properly..haha it was made 4 a 17 yr old from new york

  • @naaruto567 No 17 year old from New York sings better then Christian Bale ? :)

  • Beautiful voice! But I agree, there needs to be more tension and angst in the performance. It's almost too pretty.

  • Again, I do appreciate constructive critique, and it's not every day someone tells me anything I do is "almost too pretty." =)

  • @azsingersigner do u take requests?

  • i thought that this was very moving. my only suggestion is try to get more emotion in this part

    And before my dying day

    I want space

    Not just air

Let 'em laugh in my face, I don't care

    Save a place

    I'll be there

it's supposed to be a 17 year old mentioning his dying day which is depressing enough, his heart by a thread just about to give up on any chance of actually making it to santa fe

through the lyrics - you hear a beaten 17 year old and there is nothing more sad in the world

  • I can appreciate constructive critique. Thank you for being respectful while offering your thoughts.

  • @gillybean37 Yeah but a 17 year old mentioning death probably is leaning towards melodramatic and Emo. Under singing might be a better choice....

  • pretty good, but you're missing the accent!

  • Great job :) I must admit, I had the same though as "Scuzzbuzzproductions" but I now think you did an amazing job :)

  • oh my gosh!! that was SO beautiful!

You should be doing this professionally!! It's great! you should do voice acting!

  • gaaragirl, who cares how old he is? His voice is amazing :)

  • u look old

  • You have a lovely voice.

  • great voice man.

    I love this song

  • im learning this song for a high school tryout and ive recorded my self and i sound better then this but i did slid in the new york accent into it so yeah christian did it better then you and i

  • No problem.

    I havegoosebumps again.

    Keep up the work!

I look forward to seeing more.

    X's

  • Oh my gosh!

I don't mean this to sound horrible but when I looked before you sang I thought "He's a bit out of the age range for this song". Well I'm going to eat my words.

This is the best performance of it I have seen.

    You're flipping great!

I would listen to your voice 24/7.

Why aren't you a Disney singing voice?

    Lmao.

Hercules I think you would do well.

Try "Go the Distance" I think you would do amazing at it.

    X's

  • Thank you for the great compliment and also for the song suggestion!

  • hey-

I watch a lot of musical videos on Youtube, and I cannot stop watching your performance. I think you do a lot better than Christian Bale or anyone else I've heard. I've watched this video countless times, and your performance moves me every time. Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you so much for your kind words!

  • it sounds very...choral.

    but i like it! (:

but Christian Bale's accent adds something extra to it.

    But good job!

    I really liked it. You're good (:

  • wow, didn't expect to stumble upon such gem from an "ordinary" guy, well done ;) I really like this more than the original

  • I love it. You made an "ordinary guy" very happy.

  • good singer, but the song will always belong to christian bale.....just fits him. :)

  • i mean, yeah, this guy's obvioulsy a better singer... but that's why I like the way Christian sang it, it WASN't perfect!

But good job any way dude. :)

  • I don't think I sang it so perfectly. ;-) But I know what you mean. Thanks for the compliment.

  • Not bad but you know nobody can beat Christian Bale with his voice

  • Are you insane? It's a great song, but Christian Bale is not a singer. And it showed

  • tht wuz absolutely astonishing, I want to become a singer myself.. do u hav any pointers?

  • You sing it very well, but I like this song on a more youthful voice. I mean, it's sung by a 17 year old. I also prefer with the tempo changes in the movie. I think it adds a little more expression.

  • I love this song. I like Christian Bale better, but, y'know, he had a great accent. And a horse. And a hat. :P Great job, though.

  • Ah very nice, you sound great. I like this better than the original.

  • is there any possible way you send me the sheet music for this song in an email or online...

  • Smae here. That would be awsome.

  • Sorry, no. But I can tell you where I got it. It's in The Singers Musical Theatre Anthology Volume 3, Baritone/Bass. Published by Hal•Leonard. ISBN:063400977X.

  • Great job man. This just shows that newsies would make a great live broadway show. I'd pay any price to see that.

  • Do you still teach? I might consider going there!!

  • I only taught one semester of ASL interpreting; I never taught singing. I've got some ideas for interpreting workshops, though. And I've mentored interpreters.

  • Not bad at all :) Nice job!

  • nice :)

  • It was very good and beautiful, but I like the original

  • No problem; I don't mean to overtake the original. =) Thanks for the compliment.

  • Oh my god, sir, this was SO beautiful. I'd love to hear more of you!

  • thats amazing but ur kinda old for the song i mean id lik it if u were yonger but its still good and if i twas a brodway show then thatd b a lil weird having lika 40 year old man doing a part of lika 19 year old dude ????? BUT IT IS AMAZING

  • Hey, I understand where you're coming from. You're right it's not really an appropriate song for a 40-year-old, but I loved learning and singing it anyway and I'm glad you like it. =)

  • You did great on this song!

  • You did a fine job with this song. Excellent, especially for someone who has never seen the movie. See it though, not to imitate Christian Bale, but just to understand the context of the meaning of the song in the film. Congratulations. I want to see more of your singing. A good song for you would be "Kiss Her Now". It's from a Broadway show, but I can't remember. It's a powerful song, would suit your voice just fine. Wayne

  • Wow, you did a great job on this!! :D

You should really see "Newsies". It's become my favourite movie since I've seen it. ^^ Good luck with your music, sir! Again, great job!!

  • You did a wonderful job with that song.

You have an amazing instrument, there.

  • amazing!!!! i totally love that song and i think you do it justice

  • Nice voice. I like that you didn't use the accent. It makes yours more original.

  • i like it...it's something different..but great voice and piano

  • i think you did a wonderful job and i don't care how you did besides it's good to do things your own way. (good job)

  • wut????!!!!!! no new york accent u've gotta b kiddin me

    but anyways its great

  • Thanks, but I never watched Newsies. I learned this song from sheet music with my singing teacher. The musical notation does not say "with a New York accent" nor is there anything about the spelling of the words that indicates a regional dialect. There is much to be said for singing a song as written rather than basing it on someone else's performance. :-)

  • great job

  • i liked this but i also liked the new york accent on the original

  • weird you look like coach jones! lol anywaysss awesome job!

  • It's not too fast for him to sing it well. He did great!

  • It's too fast

  • good, but its not your style. you have an awesome voice.

this song (christian bale as jack kelly) isnt really sung with an amazing voice, its more the acting and sadness with a new york accent which ties it together

  • very good, but it didint sound like a new york accent. but great job!

  • it sounded nice but your just a tad old for this song lol.

  • you are amazing!! I loved it! You have more guts than any other person your age I know!! You have the best voice in a male I've heard in a while! You're wonderful I love you!

  • As much as I like Christian Bale, I like our version better. ^^

  • you are a great singer! props! but this song is sort of meant for younger men. your voice was awesome, though, and you made it work. I bet you would be good at some Jean ValJean stuff from Les Miserables.

  • no jean valjean is too high fo his voice actually a lot of people

  • you have a gifted voice! but (no offense) this song isn't for your voice. christian bale does it best, but DON'T BE DISCOURAGED! YOU CAN STILL DO GREAT WITH OTHER SONGS!

  • Thanks for the compliment on my voice. As for the suitability of this song to my voice, I'm not sure whether I agree with you or not. As for whether Christian Bale does it best, I think that's giving far too much credit to one singer. A good song can be sung well by many singers, and a good singer can sing many songs well. I am not discouraged. I've been performing for audiences both big and small, both paying and nonpaying, since I was 11.

  • I suppose your point of view is also reasonable. Perhaps I just like the movie just a bit too much. Haha. I'd really love to see some other songs of yours.

  • I don't think this song suits your voice either. You have a good voice though. I think Christian Bale did do it the best because he was the first one to sding it (not technically but the one that everyone knows) and no one can do it quite like he did it... also, you need to work on your pitch in a couple parts. But it was good.

  • When I performed this song, I had never seen Newsies, and I purposely did not watch Christian Bale's performance because it was important to me to create the character on my own. You may be right that it wasn't the best selection for me, but I'm proud of the fact that I sang it in my own way, not as a Christian Bale wannabe.

  • That makes me pretty happy. That's exactly what I stand for. Woot for you!!

  • make a cd man

  • Beautiful job!

  • very very good, i have one criticism though .....you kinda said wherrrre

just emphasie the 'r' a little less

  • omg! I just watched this movie in class and your better then them! Wow! I can't believe how good you are! I wish i could sing like you.

  • Thanks, tttooommm123! I felt the same way about the film version of the play Love! Valor! Compassion! when compared to a production of the play by a local theater company. There are many talented people out there who never make it to Hollywood. Hooray for live performance! :-)

  • you sound really good :) nice job

  • wow.

  • This is really great. I'm singing this in choir and this is really impressive.

  • omg that is sooo good i wish i could sing like that... i wish i could sing at all. thats my favorite song and you did a great job with it

  • wow, that was amazing!! I am completely in love with Newsies and everything to do with it. lol But i must say you are still no Christian Bale...but you still have an amazing voice.

  • You hit it. Very nice. And you're hot!

  • fabulous job, one of my favorite musicals

  • There is no way he's 17.

  • What happened to your sign language? ? ?

  • I wish I could sing like that!

  • nice job. i'm fifteen, and i aslo have a recording fo this online. blease check it out. you and i have some of the same styles. really nice voice.

  • awesome!!That was really good.I love that you moved around rather than standing in one spot.Very good for the song!Good job!
