It's kinda silly how they just gave him a gun without ascertaining his loyalty. If he DID shoot them in the back, it would cost him his life, yes, but probably also cripple them horribly since some people would then have to turn around and get rid of him.
I love that he held the note out even after they started applauding. He didn't short-change it just because the audience was already clapping. Alfie is a true class act, as a performer and as a human being.
I'm not of his generation but I liked Nick Jonas in this role. If I'd been only listening to the musical, his voice may have raised an eyebrow compared with other cast members, but seeing him in the role makes a difference. He has chemistry with those he shared the stage with, he looks good in his costume, and he has star quality. And you know what? He can definitely carry a tune. So I think he's done a very good job here.
@JudiTheWitch Exactly! The fact that he's young and his voice does not have the dramatic-ness of all the other characters make his character seem young and naive, which he is :P.
@Acoontey and yet the actual kid has a stronger voice... Young and naive does not have to equal weak. Considering Nick has done Broadway before, he doesn't seem to take his voical development all that seriously,
@Acoontey Ball was only 23 when he debuted as Marius. Not that much older than Nick, but certainly a better trained voice. Charlotte Church? 13 years old and putting divas to shame. I give Nick props for doing this - and he wasn't the worst choice for this role. If they wanted to bring youth into the fold, they should've cast the Biebs, the other two Jonas brothers, and whoever as the revolutionaries. Could barely hear him as part of a duet or ensemble.
@Acoontey Well, if I'm paying $100 to $300 or more to go to a night at the theater, I want Michael Ball's depth of voice and acting. If I'm paying 10 bucks to go to the movies, I'll be satisfied with "young and inexperienced." But in this venue, Michael beats 'em all. He was awesome. Just my opinion ;)
@JudiTheWitch he did some parts decently but i don't think his voice is suiting for the part. Not that he can't sing i just find it hard to not compare him to michael ball, who is obviously miles better.
i love the casting ( except nick jonas ) but grantaire was supposed to be really ugly thats what the book says that grantaire was very ugly ... i have to say the man playing grantaire is not an ugly guy.
@CHEKIExoxo what do you mean? Nick Jonas did a good job; in fact, he actually started on broadway before the Jonas Brothers formed. I think he did an awesome job, considering all the people who are like "A jonas brother in a broadway play? I cant take this seriously!" I think he proved them wrong!
@MoonlessdarkVI He didnt prove me wrong, But i do think he did better in act 2. But is body posture is constantly stiff and it makes him look akward. His voice im abit conflicted about. I liked him alot in empty chairs at empty tables and the ending
@Evviex Oh! I didnt mean to say he proved you wrong. My mistake, please forgive me. Yes his postiture did bother me because it choir you are supposed to stand a specific way to project your voice higher and range longer and he was doing it alittle too stiff, to the point were you could fall, but I am glad he didnt because act 2 was great! And yes he was good in empty chairs at empty tables. Please forgive me that I said you where wrong,

In the words of my father when he saw this musical in Chicago, "Operation Desert Storm was shorter than that battle scene"

@rebekah457 I don't know, I didn't like Michael Ball's version of Marius. His voice was too overpowering to play a young character as Marius.
