  • @jonvideo Easy to say then to do !

  • I did ask many people, nobody can help me haw I can update firmware for my Nikon d300?

  • dude, that's why they have nikon website. go to nikon website n search for firmware update.duh

  • thnks for the video.

btw, what is the best lens for d300?

  • 400 2.8 :)

  • LOL the lens must be good for itself , the camera doesn't matter

  • Very informative.

  • Thank you so much for your review, very useful.

  • The d300 has the P,S,A and M modes. Just use the P mode for full auto. There is no mode dial, but instead there is Mode button which is to be pressed and held while the rear dial is turned to change between the P,S,A and M modes. So Relax.

  • so...then we can always have a normalish aperature and just be able to change the shutter speed on its own?

    OR

do the settings NEED to be setup individually for each and every new shot?

I am also going to miss just being in S (shutter speed mode) and not having to worry about the aperture settings...if this is true.

  • Good stuff - I'll pass this along to all my newsletter subscribers.

  • Nicely done guys... very helpful stuff! I plan to use the D300 as my emergency backup camera... this vid help cinch my decision as to which model I'll use. Thanks again!

  • Back up camera? 2g camera as a backup? How is that a backup camera? Its a very professional, Top of the line nikon.

  • Every Photographer carries back-up equipment... two is one, one is none. This is my choice.. the D300 is considered a semi-pro camera, it's a good camera, great even. But not as good as my primary units... D3 or D700 for low light situations. Any camera not in use as the primary gear, is a backup. That doesn't mean it's a bad camera... certainly you understand that. The D300 is a GREAT CAMERA... I love it. it's ready as my emergency backup all the time at every shoot.

  • I know that. But to me a 2,000 dollar camera isnt really a backup camera. Its more like a main camera. But thats just me

  • I bought the DVD's and they are very good. I have to go along with the D300 being a great camera. I'm starting back in after a twenty year break, and what a way to do it. I'm sure the D700 and D3 are nice, but are they two and three times as nice, like their prices? This camera really is a massive chunk of machinery, especially when you add the MB-D10 battery/grip, which I did. I knew I had to have it the moment I picked it up and it fit my large hands perfectly. I see nothing wrong with it.

  • You'll really enjoy those stop animation photos when you burn out the shutter mechanism in your D300 Remember 150,000 exposures

  • Actually the DOF preview button is assignable.

You can assign the DOF to the FUNC. button as well of you want

  • i finally got the d300 yesterday!

  • the man on the left seems to be very dominent on the D300, every time the man on the right take over, the man on the left can't wait to steal it back from him.. funny.. hahaha

  • that was an amazing video for an amazing camera!

can't wait to order mine soon!

  • This is a wonderful video for the camera that is in the mail....Can't wait!

  • You should have been stating the new featers briefly and giving everyone an overview of topics being discussed in training video's.

Positive: the video series is absolute top for beginners, but doesn't really highlight the D300 like she should deserve.

    Just my five cents...

Now let the flaming of my message begin :-/

    T.

  • We go into advanced features on the second dvd, the first dvd is better for beginners. good feedback thanks

  • Lenses do have the tendency of being out of focus on the outter sides which is also for ages and you talk about the nice colors without showing them?

The best camera i've ever used is the D3, not the D300. A little note on the D3 should be made since it's the same technology but FX-size and has more processing power (thanks to the hefty price tag)

Also, this 18-135 lens kit with the D300 should be noted as well since it's one of the better consumer lenses out there (certainly for it's price tag)

  • DoF Preview has been there for years on dSLRs now, what has this to do with the D300 Demo Review? A Review highlights the new or improved features (like the last minute stating high ISO's but not showing a proof of it).

Like: 51 focus points, face detection, real working white rectangle, burst speed, big buffer, nice colors (although you have to tweek them a bit), sensor cleaning, Mpixels, etc

  • you probably own a 6mp rebel

    shoot manual

  • you must be one of those silly Canon fanboys. You know, just about every camera needs a little tweaking out of the box. Tell me a camera that gives you perfect exposure on every shot, and I'll buy it!

  • absolute BS info, something anyone who eve owned a DSLR knows. only a promo for their book. And as gxcxandy pointed out - DoF preview button is in fact 'assignable'.

  • You are right the DoF button is assignable, we do cover this in the DVDs and show how to do it.

We dont have a book, but do have DVDs and free tech support. Thanks for the note

  • I'm going to buy this amazing camera soon, and will be looking to buy this DVD as well.

  • Great vid,

I'm going to buy this amazing camera soon, and will be looking to buy this DVD as well..

    Cheers!

  • Great video. I just bought the D300 and love it. How can I buy the DVD?

  • This is a quite good video, and useful for me since I plan to buy a D300. Congrats!

  • Photographers and amateurs who will be purchasing the D300 are not typically neophites.

    Other than that, good video.

    - Al!

  • Yes, this is just an intro video, we also put a couple more advanced sections from the DVD also on youtube, see our other videos in this account The two DVDs are 90 minutes each so they cover all skill levels.

  • That was understood.

But I think something that would tantalize pros and serious amateurs to these DVDs such as tips geared towards those groups.

Almost all photographer who purchase the D300 or D3 are ones who have done their research.

    We've been playing with the D300 and D3 (with the 24-70 f/2.8 and 14-24 f/2.8)...

    Cont.

  • Although, I'm not exactly moved by these types of DVDs I KNOW for fact many of my compatriots will be.

Altogether - I'm glad people have been producing these products. Mainly because there are too many people out there providing 'bad' information.

    Kudos.

    - Al!

  • Thanks for your input Al.

  • Dude....I am proficient on the FE and FA series. I use to be a combat and architectural photographer back in the 1980s...but have not been shooting for 20 years. I just bought a D300 and welcome all the help I can get. I bought both of their training videos and will not even unpack the box the D300 came in, until I learn some stuff. So, Dude...don't be so sensitive, duh

    Diana

  • Well... Maybe not typically but I like to be the one to break the rules...

I'm a newbie and normally 'learn as I go'

I'm still learning about aperture and ISO settings and I find the video very helpful...

I also play the piano but can't read music

  • Hey guys!

    Excellent video, well done!

I didn't think something like this would exist. I am buying my D300 next week and would like to purchase your DVDs.

I am currently residing in Japan, is there a possibility of shipping them to Japan?

Also, what what lenses would you recommend to go with the D300? I need one for "general purposes" and one for shooting sports and nature?

    Thank you very much!

  • Yes, we shi to Japan,

Lenses- I have the nikon 18-135, which is a great lens that comes with one of the D300 kits(you see it in the youtube video) , then you will need one for nature that goes from say 80-200 or 80-300 (or numbers close to that) . Having those two lenses should cover your shooting needs.

  • I use the 70-200mm F2.8 it also has VR, very good lens.

  • tnx.

I am thinkingf of buyin the AF S VR 18 -200. I tought that it should cover all my needs for the beginning.

  • Good choice.

  • that's what I have.. it's a great lens and it will cover 90% of your need. but for indoor sports you will need a lens with a smaller F-stop like the 70-200mm F2.8 lens mentioned by shutterguy. but the price is a little steep.. No matter what lens you get, you're gonna love this machine.. it's a beast.

I wish I could buy your dvd too...but I live in Argentina.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Glad you like the youtube video

We can ship the dvds to Argentina.

  • Hi

That was a good video on explaining the new Nikon D300 and the demostraition on what it can do was good and functions. It is good your company has made a DVD on the D300 digital camera that can help people who have the D300 camera so they can get the best use. Well done.

    mike
