Actually.. hehe' if you watch the final part of the play and put some pieces together , you'll realize, and find out that Christine actually always loved the phantom, and he ALWAYS had her heart.. but only ONE reason why she didn't run off w. him , plus -SPOILER- and hint, Raoul isn't Gustave's father.. :D
This is great here, but I've heard some live versions. The Phantom laughs at him while he mocks him, and they fight a bit. I think they also changed the lyrics up a bit, on the part concerning Gustave. And the laughing, so wonderfully devilish.
I would slightly disagree with the sentiment... Raoul held a childish love, and the familiar.. but I agree with ALW on the fact that Eric was a deeper, pasionate love without the expectations attached to remain the same childish, needing person
oh also, for other commenters, they are going record the australian production of love never dies and release it as a dvd, sometime in the future...........
I listen to this on my I-pod most of the time, because they sound like their in my room. :3 Apparently something happened when they were singing so there is no echo from the stage like usual, so its even cooler! Great picture, by the way. :D
omg, this is the best song, as well as beneath a moonless sky, i like the way roul is so serious and i like erik the most in the play, hes serious mysterious and a total hottie! great voices by the way
Anyone know where I can find pictures of this scene? Can anyone tell me how the Phantom enters into the scene? What are the scene directions during this scene?
@0FreakShow0 thanks, yes I know that part. But how does Erik appear out of nowhere?!? Does he have his back turned? I guess I was curious about the staging of it. Meh, this is my favourite song.
@operacrackers From the clip I saw, Raoul's just sitting there staring at the bar when the bartender gets off his shift, so Erik meanders in all why-so-silently and pours Raoul a drink.
@siseo05 Correction: the scene I would love to see is when he appears to her at first...after all those years. Yes. As disappointed as I am about the concept of the storyline/plot, the chilling encounter is still poignant.
I have to laugh every time I hear this song, because Raoul is just so dang stupid! He should've learned a long time ago not to go up against Erik in a situation like this. He NEVER takes a chance unless he's got an ace up his sleeve...what an idiot.
I love this song so much. But I don't like Raoul's voice... I don't know, it just doesn't sound like him. But the Phantom sounds great. This song is so catchy(:
@phantomphan4ever1 It's not based on phantom of Manhattan. That book was based on an early idea Webber had for the show but it didn't work. He's been working on this for years to get it right.
I love how they're fighting over her like she's an object to be had. "Is she yours or mine?" I would have loved it if at the end when she had to choose if she was like "I don't need no man, I'm independent!" and just walked off on her own. XD
@thenana011 :) ahh sucks to be in holland, take a holiday and go where lnd is. :L i begged my mum to let me fly to london and see it but she said no :( definately!
omg i love devil take the hindmost! counting down the days till love never dies finally comes to aaustralia! i love the lyrics and how they finally have a duet together. i hate the ending though poor christine :'(
@missdimples666 , whaaaah! mee toooooo!!! haha, but the only problem is that you can count the days, I have to count the years, cause lnd is in no way coming to holland soon:( i hate the end too....but the rest is wonderful!
all right you said, but always he exclaimes against Gustave and is very basely to him. So I think it´s better for Gustave to stay with the Phantom and of corse the Phantom lose Christine too.
I love knowing they finally gave a duet between Raoul and Phantom! And Phantom still rules! I love the ending, when Phantom sings the last line of "Devil Take the Hindmost" in the haunting voice. I melt. I'll run away with Phantom!
@Melstrife I know this is a year late, but just to clarify... the last "Devil take the hindmost..." and the following "My god, what have I done... look at me, and the concert's only hours away.." are sung by Raoul, not the Phantom, are they not?
@UnderSeaFlower The last, "Devil take the hindmost" is sung by Phantom, after he leaves Raoul in the bar. "My god, what have I done...look at me, and the concert's only hours away." Is done by Raoul at the very end before it jumps into the next song.
This is perhaps the best song from the whole play. There's not a single part... well, other than Raoul sounding like an idiot when he goes "HUH?!" when discussing Gustave... but other than that! Not a single part of this song I don't like. One of these was needed in the first one.
@DarthxErik well i believe The Phantom was right raoul has been mocking him and although he "got" christine is now a gambler and he does the drinking thing a lot (so it would have been difficult 4 the phantom to catch him sobber) and comletely ignores his son and oh come on who would bet his wife ?the phantom was so right !
I liked this song slightly until I read the annotated script for LND... apparently Raoul is so drunk he's practically defenseless and the Phantom completely takes advantage of Raoul's "handicap." The Phantom acts quite cruel (shoving him on a table at least twice) and laughing in his face. According to LND we're supposed to feel on the Phantom's side but this just infuriated me!!
is it weird that every time the phantom says "not afraid of me you say" i think of yoda?

@RoseOfTransylvania True I would have preferred if the story was
a bit more true to the characters. Like instead of Raoul being a
alcholic gambler he and Christine could be in a rough financial
spot because their careers did not work out and they are in debt.
Eriks show should not be so much a carnival but more of a mystical
and mysterious magic show(if it is sorry not filled in to the max). He
should also be a bit more mysterious there are a few scenes were
he has somewhat unfitting dialouge.
