  • where is sifu samuel kwok currently teaching?

  • 5 stars for an awesome video. As a request, can you provide what they are saying as subtitles? It's a little hard to hear them now and then due to ambient noise.

  • Ill put it on my "to do" list but the ToDo list is huge so dont wait for it :-)

  • Kwok is one of the few that know his WC really well. I give props to him for sure.

  • at 5:57 the jitsu guy need both hands for his lock the wt guy has 1 hand free to punch but he dont very bad this wt guy

  • What a great workshop!

  • Looks like a great seminar on two combat ranges - trapping and grappling. Trapping paves the way for grappling.

  • All martial arts are good! If you know thecniques and know how to use them it'll work in a fight. if you train in mma then you're training in striking and grappling wich is good 'cause you'll be a well rounded fighter. From what i've seen of wing chun is its good for counter attacks. Sometimes the best offense is a good defense. It all depends on the person really.

  • @mookeymanderson with the right coach all martial arts are good for character developement and health. They are not however all good for self defense, most are horseshit. If you contact spar and wrestle standing and on the ground y ou'll eventually find what works .

  • @mookeymanderson well said.

  • @Kungfuman82, don't think you will find anything useful on Bullshido. Most of the people posting there are a bunch of MMA nut hugging fanboys, who couldn't fight their way out of wet toilet paper.

And you are correct, most true martial arts masters want to compare styles and possible learn tips from each other. It is only the noob students who think they their style is the only way.

  • This is the true spirit of martial arts. Being open to other styles and learning from them. Also, a lot of really good friendships are made from seminars like this. People who are true masters of any style don't trash other styles. Only wannabes, fanboys, and idiots do that.

  • okay this may be really random but i can't get any help from anywhere in the internet. I am really interested in competing in mma but the thing is apparently i am not cut out for it. I train in bjj and wing chun...i find bjj very useful and it helps me calm down in tight situations. and the sticky hands concept of wing chun helps me grapple. sorry for your trouble but if i post this on an mma forum i would just get flamed

  • Wow. This is probably the first time I've read vid comments about WC without the offensive or self righteous comments often associated with these vids. It's really nice to see Masters of different styles share not just their art but mutual respect. It's a model which all MA should adopt. Humble your heart, swallow your pride, open your mind and you'll probably enrich your art.

  • gives his approval

  • for all the doubters of wing chun, mr. gracie himself

  • 3:44 Pwned

  • @inythingatall

if you truly crush a persons trachea then they can maybe manage one or two punches before their increased heart rate and blood flow with little or no incoming oxygen causes them to lose motorskill and have distorted vision/hearing, and within 30 seconds they will be on the ground, within a minute they will be unconscious

  • Vicious Dirty Fighting is the ONLY WAY...

  • If Wang Chang is all that, then how come the guy wearing the headgear can take so many blows?

  • because he is wearing protective headgear

  • Now this is what martial arts should be about. Two masters of two styles getting together to compare and contrast and learn together. Far cry from people like those on Bullshido who want to talk shit about every other martial art except those seen in the UFC, ESPECIALLY Wing Chun. What I would give to have been at that seminar...

  • finally someone who knows what they are talking about, of course it would take someone who does wing chun (me) to agree with you. i'd love to see 60 year olds do ufc. no one knows that wing chun allows you to continue until your old age. stupid meat heads

  • @xbiomusicologyx nobody in their right mind would let 60 yr olds fight mma. There is skip hall who retired at 62 but had been fighting all his life and was an exception.

  • Well said

  • I agree with this here.. I train in Sanda which is Kung-Fu/Wushu for stand up.. I respect all Martial Arts.. What I do not have respect for is Mumbo Jumbo Crap saying that Oh BJJ Sucks,Wing Chun Sucks Anti Grappling Anti Striking.. NO!!!

Me Im A BJJ Guy that is still Learning and a Sanda Guy starting out use the Best of both Arts to better yourself..

  • here is the cleanest video about Martial art on youtube. nobody says bad words, lol. it's good

  • It's a great vid don't you think?

  • here is the cleanest video about Martial art on youtube. nobody says F words, lol. it's good

  • Man, that was some great Wing Chun!

  • fighting is about heart, not who can go 12 rounds and score a decision, most of these guys would not win a fight if it went to the death,

  • great video

  • Some great stuff on both sides there, would like to see the DVD in full!

    Great demonstrations :)

  • Boxing is nice - but really, it hits it's limit. In a real fight, you obviously aren't limited to just your hands.

I agree with the guy below about MMA - it's honestly just not impressive at all. Really every fighter in the MMA circuit uses the exact same styles as the next guy, which defeats the purpose really, and again, it's obviously more of a game than it is real fighting. The Western World has forgotten the traditional Martial Arts and now believe that massive muscles and big e-peens win

  • youre right, they dont allow hits to certain areas. in the street, if you hit the throat with a jab, its over......

  • That's not necessarily true. Unless you crush the windpipe, but even then they could keep fighting. It's not safe to think that fights can end with one jab. They can mind you, but don't believe they will. It could get you killed.

  • 100% agree =D

but still i would just hate to get punched by a boxer....friggin have the hardest punches in the world

  • How is MMA more of a game than real fighting? MMA is basically a ruleset with either no rules, or almost no rules. How would a real fight be any different?

  • boxing is an art that focusses purely on knocking people unconscious with incredible fast power punches and combinations, it's one of the best standup styles out there. coupled with a wrestling base, it's the most effect fighting style. that's why most mma fighters use it

  • @ChrisTeamProdigy I wanna mention one of the first true Mixed forms of martial arts would be Jeet Kun Do. Created by Bruce Lee. It's not watered down like the MMA we see today.

  • always nice when marital artists find common ground and mutual respect like this.

    Thanks for up-loading.

  • @ Peekingduck

I couldnt agree more, and its sad it cant happen more often!

  • This was a good clip.

I feel that MMA is not mixed at all now. I has taken what works (within the rules of the match) and adopted it as its own.

Boxing punches without a boxing guard, BJJ without gi techniques, Mai Thai kicks without close clinch's e.g.

As a sport, personally, I would like to see them separated.

IMO MMA is just technique and strength without the nuance and subtleties.

I guess that's why I watch more boxing then ever ate the moment.

  • Martial arts should be really tested or if I may say it should actually be "battle tested" for a long period of time. So that we can be sure of its effectiveness and its efficiency.. And it must be able to adapt to all kinds of situations whether with weapons or empty hand combat. ------just a humble opinion of someone from the land of (KALI or ARNIS or ESKRIMA) what ever you guys wanna call it!!! -PEACE & GOBLESS to ALL!

  • ... martial arts have been battle tested... how do you think they originated? some dude thinking hey imma make some cool looking moves? no... they were made to survive. Know the difference between martial arts and the sport adaptions.

  • Martial arts cannot be used as a skill to battle anymore. You can never know if the opponent you're going against in street fights have a gun.

  • Only in America and Africa - there is very little gun crime in England because we decided to make guns illegal

  • thats a very good choice . guns are for pussies

  • @lancswingchun Which is unfortunately why people carry knives instead now and that's even more worrying than a gun. As my Sifu says, the best defense against a knife is to run.

  • yeah!

  • Yeah...I really respect all of your personal opinions.. I humbly would like to agree that other traditional martial arts is...if I may say..not really intended for self defense but only for sports like MMA.

  • i just got to stop you dare cause when you use martial arts such as wing chun its self defense only nothing to do with mma

  • I've watched a few vids on YT and they try to compare BJJ to WC, I like this vid cause it shows both without comparing the two. I also like the fact that they have a real WC master, some of the vids have guys that have done WC for a few years and don't have a great knowledge of it. Both are extremely effective fighting styles.

  • the important thing is not to worship any style but to embrace what works and to become a student and move on from there. the fight against one's own selfish ego is the most difficult.

  • I see you've read Bruce Lee's work!

  • Yes indeed my friend. Embrace what works. You don't have to create your own style or anything, but the style you should make the style you are learning fit you. And by all means, add to it from other styles!

  • bad man too right!! I never truly appreciated these words till my mind matured but in martial arts you train with drills and forms and stances to eventually learn and master techniques, but then to forget and become formless. If you should have to defend or protect yourself or a loved one, allow nature to take is course n strike with your tools at the right moment.

  • this makes me laugh when master kwok hits the big guy...lol

  • both great styles havent got round to trying or practicing in wing chun, but im sure ill give it ago jujutsu is great for self defence too ive done a bit of it at aikido trainikng days

  • the styles of traditional martial arts aren't dated, i think some of the practices are though. Like bjj, for example. If your learing to fight, for the sake of being a good fighter, you can't rely on an opponent wearing a gi. who are you going to fight on the street wearing one of those? Bjj is all about gaining leverage through the gi, and really for modern times it needs to be examined again to say "ok..what other moves can we make that don't depend on the gi"

  • This shows that martial artists can and will have an open mind to training with each other. Regardless of style this shows all arts can learn off each other. The style of wing chun i take part in trains grapple/groundwork/rolling on separate training day to the other wing chun lessons. We are more street trained probably because the location of the area our style has evolved in.

    Respect Samuel Kwok sifu

    R.I.P Carlson Gracie sensie

  • BJJ is not the best martial art. Wing Chun is not the best martial art.

But mixed together, you get an extremely deadly combination of powerful, quick techniques.

Respects to both martial arts from a Tai Chi Mantis practitioner!

  • wing chun is a great martial art, extremely effective, i would love to learn it but there aren't any schools near me, but there are a few BJJ schools near me

  • no one is crazy to mess with them xD

  • correction Wing Chun is not a sport it is a martial art system

  • Wing chun is indeed very effective and a beautiful sport :)

  • it isn't a sport.

  • looks very effective the wing chun does very close counter attacks and the guy who is attacking is attacking how a guy in the street would attack you

  • looking at this it looks pretty effective because the attacker is going for the wing chun intructor like how a real street attacker would attack and he is coming in with very close counter punches pretty fast aswell

  • So brilliant to see respectful comments on a martial arts video rather than the usual ignorant arsey comments

  • wing tsun was made by women. and u can see that they are stronger then expected.

  • All the MMA, BJJ and WC guys are silent. All martial arts are important and teach so much more than just how to fight. Open your eyes and ears and seek knowledge before you open your mouths. Great upload!!!

  • nice to see to great masters respecting one anothers style. having trained in both styles now for about 20 years, you would not belief how much prejudice goes on between these great fighting arts.

  • very true, but knowing both is a deadly combination - kudos to you for your commitment in both arts.

  • Wow thanks a lot for this rare footage.

I had the honour to take part in a Samuel Kwok event weekend, great guy, lightning fast, he's a true artist. This is real Wing Chun.

Ironically, I'll begin Jiu Jitsu now... because my Wing Chun teacher was more interested in making money.

Thanks a lot ! Great video.

  • niceeee!

  • ive trained with this guy hes fast

  • nice

  • u mean two great masters

  • are there going to be more seminars like this?

  • Unfortunately Carlson has now passed away

  • we train in the guard? i just started

  • lol these two intheir prime would have been a badass team, well tbh even now they would damage most people in the world

  • The world has lost one of its greatest masters. We will always miss you Grand Master Carlson Gracie. Your technique will live on in the many who were blessed to train with you.

  • Very special video, miss Master Carlson.

  • Very nice

  • Awesome!

  • Yes, unite.

  • This vid shows the value of having an open mind. I've been training in judo for over 20 years and last year I took up WC as well because I wanted to diversify my skills and have always been very interested in the system. While I'm obviously still an amateur at WC the 2 seem to compliment each other well - my judo background means I can strike freely without worrying about getting grabbed and the WC means I'm no longer so desperate to gapple up and can set up my takedowns with more patience

  • I can only see advantages when combining different styles.

  • I totally agree. I find it the height of hypocrisy that "MMA" practitioners scorn other styles, considering the fact that "MMA" means MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. MMA people making fun of traditional arts is like ... I dunno ... John Williams making fun of Mozart. I train in BJJ and love it but I appreciate the fact that my traditional training taught me brutal counters and throat/eye jabs for quick and effective self-defense. The UFC cage is not the official measuring stick of effectiveness.

  • nicely summed up

  • i completely agree with you. MMA is about being open to multiple styles, but they are not able to accept traditional martial arts such as wing chun. its actually quite funny.

  • Exactly!!! Patience!!! Very wise words you speak.

  • This video is awesome, unlike those fake aikido video, this video u can really learn something

  • Great to see systems training together, especially these two. Really nice!

  • WOAH! kwok is LIGHTNING FAST!!! and when you see him throw a punch saying to use more than just the arms and pats his hips, his punch looks just like Bruce Lee, showing that a person really does have a "BASIC" style that is their foundation. bruce's punch was a looping wing chun punch.

  • well, i'll admit, i was bein an asshole to other standing MA cuz when watching BJJ vids ppl were hating really bad. So, to be a deuche back at em, i started trolling on other vids. But the ppl who commented here are right. martial artists should unite. RIP, carlson gracie. MA's will always be #1. Gracies always said yu should INCOORPORATE BJJ into ur training. Now i know what it means. It takes ground work AND stand-up to make the fighter. =]

  • awesome vid

  • 2 different MA working together = MMA.

  • nah MMA is a Ruleset tournament

  • Martial arts were always mixed. It was just that the world got smaller so kungfu got to meet wrestling etc. Every art developed its niche under the metagame (check wikipedia) and milieu of its creation. whew thats a mouth full.

  • You are actually incorrect. Wrestling had been in China way before the west came to visit. Mongolians had their own style of wrestling that was very effective. Also, MMA is not two MA working together. It is just a term for UFC style martial arts designed primarily for ring work. It is generally standard practice for MA masters to learn multiple styles to develop a personal style of what works best for their body type.

  • he is the real deal! this is wing chun

  • Carlson Gracie is a great master and a great Man He will always be remembered

  • RIP Master Carlson Gracie.

  • what?! when did he die and how

  • nice video.. we martial artist shoud unite not fight with eachother. we are all great!

  • rofl this is funny notice how all those tap out kids who worships bjj n muay thai n hates everything else it shows even bjj masters has open mindedness

  • Thanks for the upload! One of the biggest things I worried about, as a beginning wing chun practitioner, was defending against outside line attacks like the lead and rear hand hook.

It's awesome that S. Kwok is able to adapt the traditional tan sao to an outer form block and make it an effective response to outside line attacks.

Thanks very much for the upload!

  • Glad you enjoyed it, the block done by sam kwok is a Biu Sau. It is a traditional Wing Chun technique found in the first and third wing chun hand forms.

  • i am not english speaker, the traditional tan sao will not work as good as this block?

  • S.Kwok did not adapt the Tan Sau he merely did what he was suppose to and changed to the traditional Bil Sau ! He just used the right WC tool at the right time

  • RIP Master Carlson Gracie. You was a great man.

  • excatly what im doing cat belive i watch this again and again

  • !!!!SAMUEL KWOK SPEAKS ENGLISH!!!!

  • yes

  • Absolutely amazing!!!

  • Anyone see a vid of a boxer vs wing tsun? I wonder how that trapping would work against a style that stresses a tight package and small range of motion.

  • You don't have to wonder, you just don't use trapping in such cases, wing chun is not all about that, actually trapping is what you learn in the first year of training. The problem is that rarely do we see good wing chun fighters and most people think they know everything just because they can throw some chain punches on an opponent that stays still

  • boxers ARE good with their hands, but don't forget wing chun DOES apply the feet in more advanced forms so while the boxer may be good against parrying/blocking hand strikes I doubt theyd be able to defend much against wing chun low/knee level kicks mixed in, NOW KICKBOXING vs. Wing Chun, theres a nice matchup, word to REAL MMA vids like this :)

  • The guy in the demo was a army boxing champ and an undefeated martial arts full contact champion. sifu smith is exceptional martial artist. hopes this help answer your question these guys dont train useless techniques

  • a Boxer vs. Wing Chun? it works pretty well considering boxers (as in professional boxing format) don't deal with any of it. They are easily beaten because they don't defend the backhand and the knockout precision of most striking arts that don't allow those types of attacks like boxing. Also consider that they are a tight package (instructor is just standing naturally)

  • This is great shit. I'm a wingtsun practitioner and through the leung ting system I feel combfortable fighting with anyone, but its never bad to cross train... Kudo's on Samuel Kwok and the Gracies for further developing Martial Arts.

  • Great combination, take my hat off to both those guys, even though I'm from a more Traditional WC background... Most people don't realise WC does actually teach ground fighting techniques eventually, probably because most aren't taught it. However much respect due to BJJ

  • Indeed, because there are 12 grades in WC one of them is anti grappling and an another one is anti ground. My school use 1 grades. There is something else teached wrong at WC schools, many schools when they perform the stances they keep they legs crossed like / \ my school keeps them straight like | |. I asked my teacher why he told me that when Yip Man done Weng Chung (shaolin style) the monks knew he would reveal their secrets to the masses to they teached him some wrong aspects.

  • I feel bad for you, your instructor doesnt know his Wing Chun history. no1) Traditionally in China/HK there are no gardes for Wing chun, but grading is sometimes useful so ok. no2)This stance /\ (sil lim tao) is for training the power in your legs, not many wing chun schools use it to fight, tehy use \ \ (chum Kiu) no3) Ip Man never learnt Shaolin Kung Fu. He learnt from Chan Wai and later Leung Bik neither were shaolin or even close to shaolin. out of curiosity who is your instructor/Sifu?

  • So you mean Mr.Yip never done Weng Chung?

  • What ground fighting techniques have you done in wing chun?

  • what trapping techniques have you done in BJJ?

  • in Ip Ching wing chun we train in the guard, mount, takedowns, shoots...pretty much everything...Our focus however, is to get back up asap and use the striking aspect of wing chun. We work elbows, knees, and locks, the clinch...all using wing chun principles

  • did those come from Ip Ching himself?

  • No Ip Ching doesn't teach groundwork just Wing Chun, but many of his students do. like wckfguy said 'using wing chun principles' you can do alot. =)

  • A well trained striking technique for being on your feet and a well rounded technique for when it all goes to ground (which it has a nasty habit of doing when you least expect it), is always a good combo.

It's always good to hear people who are acknowledged as masters of a dedicated discipline pay respect and accept that 1 'trick' just won't work.

Any MA teacher who thinks this way gets my vote.

Instead of the 'my method is better than yours' BULLSH1T that is heard too often in the MA world.

  • I give great respects to both wingchun and brazilian jiu jitsu.

    RIP Carlson Garcie.

  • yea this is what i'm training now . the blending is very very effective

  • RIP Carlson Garcie

  • I like this video, I miss my wing chun and must get back to it. Got BJJ and thai here, must start again!! Do they actually BLEND wing chun and BJJ? They talked about using it in UFC - have any techniques made their way in? I can see simultaneous attack / defence being useful for set ups etc :D Nice vid, love MA!!

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • RIP Carlson Garcie

  • I've been waiting for these two styles to come together for some time now. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

  • Just shows. No MA is a complete system. No matter what the ads say. Good for MMA for mixing things up.

  • 3:44 in, doesn't look like he was expecting it, or that had some power hehe

  • great video! fast movement and great technique

  • This is really very cool. Two beautiful and deadly arts coming together.

  • Awesome

  • I enjoyed this thanks for putting it on

  • how did carlson die

  • Same time I block, I am hitting him...tight

  • good to see. I never understand why people fight over the 2 styles, each has its place and purpose. I would not want to wrestle with someone on the ground where people could kick you like in a pub. I would also like to be able to wrestle if I was taken to the ground or like he was showing towards the end there, not all wrestling is on the ground. Nice vid.

  • It was a great seminar. My bro and I really enjoyed it, and we were shocked and sorry to find out that Carlson had passed away not too long after the seminar. The seminar combination of Wing Chun and BJJ could definitely work - these two great masters proved it.

  • I would love to see wing chun and judo mixed together.....not sports judo but traditional judo

  • bjj is a evolved form of traditional jiu jitsu which came from judo. so its about the same

  • Small correction... Judo was developed in Japan in the late 19th century using principles of balance and leverage adapted from jujitsu, not the other way around! :)

  • i thought judo was the sport application that evolved out of jiu-jitsu?

  • Nice vid. It's all about expressing yourself.

MARTIAL ART is also a way to express yourself by meaning, determination, confidence, speed, power, technique, endurance, agillity and the ability to do all the above but most important to do good.

Thanks for sharing this vid with us lancswingchun it's realy inspiring.

    Respect to Carlson Gracie R.I.P.

  • Finally the beef is over.

But it is a shame that it ends right after the death of Late Carlson Gracie.

Why can't people put ego's to the side and have fun and train together to accomplish greater things in life then rather throwing durt at each other.

This here is a perfect example of MARTIAL ARTS.

ART is used to express youself for example davinci by his paintings to share his visions with the world.

  • agree 100 percent. I love bjj, but im a shaolin kung fu man, and I have to work my butt off jsut to prove my stuff works. I love this vid

  • theres a hungar kaung fu down the road fro mme wwhats it like

  • my sifu learnt that style but he saihe wasnt able to use it becasue of the way his teachers taught him. its not always the student but the teacher too. these days its hard to find some one who teaches you proparly for real life situations

  • awesome stuff.

may carlos gracie rest in peace.

  • I study my own form that emcompasses the aspects of 4 martial arts, and a mix of my own to make it in theory great,

Bruce Lee stated to try your own style, having no style as style, but you must learn the styles that are here to make your own

  • Its good to see carslon again. I met him in austin texas at a tournament. No one could speak with him because you either had to know portugues or spanish. I speak spanish very well. I had the great honor of sitting with him and hearing his stories of his encounters. He told he loved to gamble and watch cock fights back home in brazil. Awsome guy. He passed away 2 months later. he left a seed of hope in me to work hard and keep training. I thanked him for his contribution to Gracie jiu jitsu

  • definatly a destructive combonation wing chun and jiu jitsu

  • JuJitsu and wing chun is a lethal combination, they work like a magnet and steel

  • I uploaded these videos for the wing chun and martial arts comunities around the world. leave your politics at home, or take them up with me via personal messages if you need to cvent you frustration. cheers all - keep training hard.

  • i think its really great if anything, anyone can see two masters of what is now commonly squabbled over actually working together. realistly they are both great arts. thank you! =)

  • NICE MOVES.

  • Im very impressed to see both Grandmasters of their styles share their styles in a joint seminar. You can see from the video how they both respect each other.

  • Great video. Often UFC fans who haven't trained a day in their life criticize chinese martial arts and their supposed "inaffectiveness" However, seeing someone as respected as a Gracie working with a Wing chun master, Is a great awakening to those ignorant people. I know small bits of both and they are equally amazing to me. If you can't punch them to victory, grapple them to victory. =D

  • i very much agree with u !!!!! i use bjj and wing chun .

  • the reason they criticise them is because they are too unskilled to use them effectively. chinese martial arts are the most deadly and require the most skill!

  • I've developed a term for those people, backseat martial artists. Similar to backseat drivers, people who don't actually drive but love to talk like they are pros on it.

  • "However, seeing someone as respected as a Gracie working with a Wing chun master, Is a great awakening to those ignorant people."

Totally agree, nice video and a proof of greatness by some true masters. I hate all those "this is the one and only thing"-people.

I think both systems complement pretty well. Everyone who´s good at a special style does well to expand his horzion and learn a different thing.
