You need to decide what range you need to be at (to avoid enemy fire and also optimise your damage). You also need to know what ammo type to use, when to use a shield booster - armour repairs. When to warp scram someone, who to warp scram. When to warp out etc.

I suppose its not 'skill', but then there is no skill on computer games. It's about knowing when to do what. It also include knowing how to fit your ship and what skills you need to train your character.

They were Caldari Navy Mjolnir Torpedos. If iirc correctly.

@banaaantje123 The larger Explosions are being made my the Ravens (large battleships) and they are using Bane Torpesdo's, any Torpedo will make that nice
