How were people supposed to flee when roads were closed without their knowledge? People died in their car's trying to escape the fury because the fires were spreading that fast. Race has absolutely nothing to do with this, there was no real plan for such a huge catastrophe like this, now there is and lets hope we never have to use it.
It is extremely dangerous to try and flee from a fire which is that close. The smoke, the wind, the heat all combine to create a situation which makes it nearly impossible to escape. Add emergency vehicles using the roads....
In general, roads were not closed by the authorities to prevent people from exiting the area, only to prevent them from entering it. Any road blockages came from trees which fell across the roads, or cars that blocked the roads. This is why we tell people to leave early.
@bigfirie To all those who escaped death from this fire: STOP KILLING ANIMALS AND ROAST THEM ON FIRE!!! This fire shows clearly how karma makes people pay for their sins against animals that they joyfully kill-sometimes to celebrate a "religious" festival!!!
This is just a sample of real inferno that exists on other planets
STUPIDITY! The fires were raging for DAYS..when r people gonna realize LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT than material things? how fcuking stupid do u have to b to put urself and ur WHOLE family at risk to try to put out a fire yourself?????? These fires had been raging for ages, and people CHOSE to stay....if those people were Asian they would be the first out of there with their family and move into a temporary hotel in the CBD! As Kevin Rudd said its "ABSURD" people should die like that!
Shutup. They were staying to help put out the fires so that it wouldn't come any closer to Melbourne. You might live in Melbourne and if you do, you should be thanking those people for helping save your lives. And also, most people would send their wives and kids to safety while they fought the fires by themselves. Not putting the whole family in danger.
i live in victoria, in Warragul..Its the scarriest thing to be surrounded by, it was like a movie one min the sky was lovely, clear and sunny, next min it was full of thick orange smoke and ash falling everything. The sick pricks the lite them on purpose need to be thown on top of a fire if they enjoy it so much.. RIP all those have died, worst day ever, i will never forget that day.
I hope they find the animal/s that did this, i really do. whatever number the deathtoll reaches, that's how many life sentences they should serve, charged with murder by arsony, along with however much property damage and cruelty to animals and assault and the list could go on and on. God bless all you victorians who are suffering, i'm praying for you. Love fishy4
I cant stand the thought that some prick lit these fires on purpose , I hope these Arsonists die a myserable death.
And for people that keep making references like " GOD BLESS the victims" Where was he when these poor people were being incinerated? Good time for a miracle I think, even rain would do.
God was welcoming them in heaven especially the innocent little children, Thats where God was during the blaze. Rest in peace to the departed. THey are now free from any form of pain.
My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this disaster. I could not even come close to imagining what it would feel like to see a wall of fire comming for you. There have been so many stories of bravery and friendship. Stay strong.
On the other hand, it is also overwhelming how the community has shown all out support. This tragic thing has brought out the goodness in everyone. Its so beautiful to see people helping people.
Kudos to all the firefighters and everyone helping ease the pain of this tragedy.
Our prayers for all who lost their homes and loved ones. And to those who died, RIP,God rest your souls. To all Australians, peace and God bless!
Our deepest sympathy to all the victims of the recent victorian bushfires. our family lives in Whittlesea just a few kilometers from kinglake. Most everyone in whittlesea knows someone who either lost a house or loved ones in the kinglake fire. Its so sad to walk to on the main shopping strip here seeing the fire victims walking on the side of the road, or having cuppas in the coffee shops...the atmosphere is thick with sadness and despair that I feel like crying and giving the victims a hug...
g'day every1 my family is quite angry at the dickhead who lit some of these fires he or she. many people dies trying to save others so if people laugh bout this latder ill probably just sit down and cry
A terrible tragedy that has touched many Australians up to now and will probably touch more before it plays out. I pray for you all and that the ordeal will be over in a short time.
Kinglake was one of the loveliest places here on earth. Now it's all gone, homes can be re-built but loved ones can never be re-placed or forgotten. They are all in oyr prayers.
