  • for some reason i doubt that shelby was much faster then the roushe since it was a convertable... also it would lose some ridgedy due to the lack of roof.

  • The Shelby needs springs, struts/shocks, swaybars. The brakes are pretty big on them already maybe just switch to carbon metallic pads. All that and it becomes a pretty lethal road car. One problem though is I believe the Shelby has a iron block which adds weight to the front.

  • @rompn4x actually it has an iron 5.4 like I said above in the top comments (old account) So its even heavyer. But my dad owns a roush stage 3 like in this video but ours has a diffrent tune and the supercharger puts out more boost. So ours beats the shelby in the streights and the corners. Ours still has less power but the roush suspension and wide tires give it loads of grip and by the time the shelby is done spinning its wheels on the line the roush in long gone.

  • The extra power the gt500 is useless anyways since it can't hook up...

  • when it comes to engines all clarkson knows is displacement numbers and even then hes usually wrong. i remember him saying the f150 lightening has the same 5.4 as the ford gt but in reality they are quite different

  • Apples to oranges comparison with the Stang and Lotus... I think a Solstice or Sky Redline against the Lotus would be fun. Lotus would probably still beat them in corners.

  • i sold my 03 SVT Cobra Mustang with 500 rwhp to buy an 08 Exige 240S. Both are amazing cars, but completely different animals. My Mustang came factory equipped with independant rear suspension (the only Mustangs so equipped). It would eat the Lotus up at speed, but cannot compare in cornering, braking or off the line performance. Don't hate lovers of either of these cars, because they both excel in what they were designed to do.

  • people and their tracks. really. you buy a car, how many times in your lifetime will it ever be on a track? a car is about the driving experience, not a bunch of statistics. they sacrifice the heart and soul of the machine, making it look and sound like a piece of shit all in a desperate effort to pick up a couple tenths of a second here, or a mph or two there. screw it. this isn't a sports car. ppl just don't get muscle.

  • @creamyfilling102 No i don't there are corners in real life too id rather get 30 mpg and get to 60 faster and have more fun in the corners than have a stupid annoying mustang. Mustangs are the harley's of cars annoying fat slow and useless.

  • @mitch133666 30 mpg? i'd hate to break it to ya, but if you slap a turbo on a 4 banger, you're not gonna get 30 mpg while running to 60. boosting kills your fuel economy just as bad as having a big V8, while at the same time, putting excessive wear and tear on your engine components.

  • @creamyfilling102 Yes but when i am not boosting to 60 i am getting 30mpg unlike a stupid mustang. Id rather have a car thats just as fast when it needs to be that can take corners and economical and not a fat turd. Explain why the suspension sucks a fat cock on a mustang.

  • @mitch133666 so explain to me why the lancer EVO is rated at 23 mpg highway, and impreza WRX at 25, whereas the new mustang V8 is rated at 25. even the old 4.6 "turd" engine got 23. and again with the suspension. mustangs aren't supposed to corner. in every day street driving, you can't whip around corners 90 miles an hour without killing someone or getting a ticket anyway.

When can you use a v8's full displacement in a straight line on the street without getting a ticket? muscle cars are RETARDED the ones from the early 70's and older are cool. the new ones are stupid all of them but most of all mustangs.

  • yes,I'm American,and I even have a 58 chevy pickup,but I don't see how people are so stupid in thinking their mustangs are better than anything else.yes you may like them,but nothing with a live rear axle can handle.and I'm sorry but it's true;most American cars over all can't go around a corner.there is a replacement for displacement.it's called lightness.

  • The Mustang vs Lotus comparison always cracks me up. It's painfully obvious the little light lotus is a cornering powerhouse. If anyone claims the Mustang should actually be able to do that, they're delusional. The Mustang simply isn't designed to perform in the same manner.

    If I had to drive a thousand miles, I would certainly pick the Ford over the Lotus though.

    And no one can say I'm a biased Ford fan... I own a Honda S2000 for fuck sake. ;)

  • Even Carroll Shelby has recently said that he probably made a mistake all those years ago by going with high HP in a heavy car. He specifically mentioned that he should have taken the Lotus approach to car design. (Lighter, easier to control cars)

  • Obviously the lotus exige s is not the best UK track car. Take something like the TVR Cerbera or TVR Speed12 to kill a Vette around the track. Anyway, soon enough we'll talk about GM at the past tense. Good riddance.

To put a gt500 on the road in England is around 43k and ull definitely need t be upgrading the suspension and safety features otherwise its likely to end up in a field. Tbh its a bad piece of engineering, if a cars not meant to handle the what is its purpose???

    Plus you'd be ignorant if you thought this wasn't just another one of Clarkson's shots at America. He usually has nothing good to say about any American car for one reason or another.

    It's not like Ford took the live axle from the 60s Mustangs and fitted it onto the new ones. They revamp and improve on the technology. Same thing with the Corvette leaf springs.

  • I find alot that TOPGEAR is heavily biased against maerican cars in general and mustangs in particular. They have a bad habit of misquoting information on the mustangs such as the engine displacement mentioned earlier. And the Shelby has larger brakes as well as reworked suspension as compared to the GT. However the heavier engine throughs off the wieght distrobution even more. Hence why the Roush is so much beter.
