@dilegentelectron no. it is true. as the crossbow is silent, versatile and rather effective, both physically and psychologically, it is a great choice of weapon in areas like Tibet, Xinjiang , so on. some other countries use it too. Talking about versatile, it can be used to deploy ziplines, explosive tipped, poison tipped, blunt rounds, it can stop people carrying explosives, counter sniper, mental deterrence, probe for trip wires. it's extremly reliable in extreme conditions. lols

Everything in the developed world is a result of ideas and inventions by everyone in the world, including Arabs, Persians, Indians, Jews, Japanese, etc. Anyone who has an ounce of exposure to any hi-tech field should know by now how diverse the different peoples, backgrounds and countries involved in progressing the world.

@yhlee2k I've heard of that perspective before. It's partially true. I say partially because a lot of today's technology is very complex and virtually every cultural, national and ethnic group is involved. It's been like that for several decades already.

@yhlee2k Like I mean the quantity factor is pretty blurred. It will be very hard to pinpoint who contributed what and from where with today's technology. It's not impossible but one can almost say every cultural, national, ethnic group is "sort of" (emphasizing "sort of") equal in their achievements.

@tung2sai Every ethnic race and nationality has their contributions to the world, some are cultural, some are religious, some are in the arts, etc. But you can't deny the fact that some civilizations such as the Chinese have made the most contributions to the foundation of the modern world than others. As for the Japanese, their traditional culture was a complete direct imitation of the Chinese originals.

I've been reading a lot lately that these inventions have been both discredited and supported (quote by Peter Watson in his book Ideas, History...) As well as many debates in English and Chinese ranging from praising the ingenuity of the past to being totally dismissive of their worth.

I think regardless of such discussions, this doesn't change the fact that such intense creativity existed and the Chinese civilization was and is remarkable in its own right.
