When you tax corporations, you are taxing everybody. Corporations aren't owned by a single person. Sure, most of the people with stock in them are already well to do. Not quite accurate. We use 20% of the world's oil production. You can't compare reserves to production. Plus we have enough natural gas alone to power this country for 150 years. But we don't have anyone willing to run a car off of it. And the world's largest oil reserve isn't in iraq or saudi arabia. It's in Canada. If we do not switch to renewable energy sources the price of oil will go up does not matter if we buy the oil from Canada or Mexico or Saudi arabia. I am voting democratic because of health care. The issue is being overlooked. McCain is taxing it and I don't want a $5,000 tax credit medical voucher as I don't Owe $5,000 in taxes. This is no help and I called and a private plan will cost me $18,000! Right now, Blue Cross only cost me 83.00 a month with $30.00 co-pays. With McCain, I will be paying over 1,000 per month with less insurance! It's a joke and insult to our intelligence.

In the last 8 years, since Dubya smeared McCain by saying he had an illegitimate child with a black woman, McCain has cuddled up to W. McCain has voted with his party 90% of the time. He gave up his so-called "maverick" status when he bent over to take it from Bush and the neo-cons in 2000.
so what if he did? Obama voted along party lines 97% of the time. Who's the Maverick? Voting along party lines 90% of the time means he disagreed with them 10% and wasn't afraid to say so.
Obama voted 97% againts Bush !!! 10 % Mccain did not vote at all. and in 2008 he voted 100% with Bush. He is no maverick ! He runs a campaign the same way W was running againts him in 2000. We do not need maverick we need smart man in the white house not old man with "poor judgemnt"

Domestic drilling has not led to lower prices. Since 2000, drilling has increased dramatically climbing about 66% while gas prices continued to increase. Gas companies have shown that they can't keep pace with the rate of drilling permits that the federal government is handing out; over the past 4 years they have received and are sitting on nearly 10,000 permits that they aren't using to increase domestic production. They don't WANT to drill, they just want to control the extra acreage.
If you're a rich oil exec or a rich anything else, then McCain is clearly your guy. If you're "Joe Six Pack" you better put down the beer and vote for Obama because 26 years of piss-down-my-back-and-tell-me-it's-raining economics (AKA "Trickle Down Economics") doesn't work for the middle class and it never has!

when you say "eco hippies" I assume you mean the scientific community? cars and planes already exist that run on solar and hydrogen power, and the technology is in its infancy. oil is a finite resource, what do you think will happen if you have no infrastructure to convert to new energy sources when the times comes? the US is already weakening relative to emerging economies and you want to compound the problem for short term gain.

So what's wrong with drilling on our own land? Taking responsibility for ourselves instead of relying on other countries to give us everything. These other countries are not responsible for keeping us in our huge SUVs and driving thousands of miles a month and using up billions upon billions of dollars of gas on our "I want it now" attitudes. Convenience isn't everything. I think this recession has proved that.

just saw a documentary on it. there's not an much in Anwar as is thought. besides, any new wells would take 5 to 10 years to reack market and the effect on prices would be only pennies. besides, it seems every time hope is placed on finding new oil the move to alternative energy get back burnered to some degree. i'm all for US energy independence, but we must find things other than oil which will be finite regardless of how many wells are drilled.

2 Questions I have : Will AMERICAN companies be drilling? and Will Americans be benefitting from this oil production (if in fact the exploration were deemed a success)? It just seems like were are digging ourselves a deeper hole (no pun intended)... In the 70's Jimmy Carter described the harm oil dependence has on America (blaming big companies and the American public). He also alluded to the national security and other economic issues associated with it.

Normally I find your videos to be of an interesting opinion and also to not resort to much in the way of spin. If you take a look at 0:24 in this video though Bravenewfilms attempts to represent a speech given in 2000 as one in June 2008. It is clear from the date stamp in the top left corner that this is the case. I must say its a rather shameful and dishonest tactic and I would hope that Bravenewfilms addresses this.

The technoligy to create "green" energy is out there, just look into your local patent office. The stuff your not allowed to see, is the stuff that can save us all. I work in the tech industry, and we, as a country, have already developed clean energy motors, generators and fuels. how would this possibly in any universe work? When you burn hydrogen and oxygen, you get energy and water as output. So where does the energy come from that they split the water into hydrogen and oxygen in the first place? Reuters may be a respected news organization, but that doesn't mean they can't make a mistake. They all do. They were tricked in this case. This smacks of perpetual motion machine and violates the laws of thermodynamics.

Not a one of you would be so happy about another country coming to our shores if we just dropped the oil drilling. If we drill more it is still not a soultion to the raising gas prices since it is 2030 until we can use the oil. I think if we started programs to add electric cars, hydrogen cars, natural gas cars we truly could lower gas prices & rapidly get ourselves out buying billions of middle east oil. When you tax corporations, you are taxing everybody. Corporations aren't owned by a single person. Sure, most of the people with stock in them are already well to do. Corporations have a duty to their shareholders. They also have a duty to their employees. Who do you think they are going to push the costs to? So while the middle and lower classes would get some relief (barely), the upper class would be screwed for all their hard work. Heck, we might all get screwed. It's happened before.

I never said that we have to totally stop using hydrocarbons; rather, that they should be used in a responsible, sustainable manner. If the Earth keeps heating up at the current rate, gas prices will be the last thing you'll be worried about. As an agronomist I know full well that *no* crops grow in the kind of extreme climate that global warming is causing.

sure he voted against SOME renewable energies. For example: BioDiesel. We don't have enough land to grow the corn necessary to power the cars on the road today. This is just one example. There are others. When people lambast someone else with a really vague statement such as "voted against renewable energy", i would hope most people would actually do some fact checking to see exactly what he is against. Not quite accurate. We use 20% of the world's oil production. You can't compare reserves to production. Plus we have enough natural gas alone to power this country for 150 years. But we don't have anyone willing to run a car off of it. And the world's largest oil reserve isn't in iraq or saudi arabia. It's in Canada. You can't post links here but i don't think you will have any problem verifying this. It's google result #1.

If we do not switch to renewable energy sources the price of oil will go up does not matter if we buy the oil from Canada or Mexico or Saudi arabia. If we do invest in renewable energy sources countries like Russia, all Arab countries will go bancrupt and will not be able to sponsor terrorists and Nuclear ambitions. The reason why they are so powerful now because thanks to GWBush the price of oil went from $56/barrel when he took office to $130 this year./becuase of the recession is down again.

I won't go into the fact we're not meeting the technical definition of a recession yet (and i've lived through one and believe me we haven't hit it yet). Consider who the bad guys are here. The stock marked crashes and suddenly our oil suppliers are asking less money per barrel? Obviously they must have been overcharging us in the first place, if they can cut the cost per barrel to the extent they did.

We can't drill ourselves out of our energy problem. Transition—yes. 20 years? NO. Think of it like this, like when you asked your mommy for pudding. "No, Bobby, we don't have pudding, but we do have applesauce. Eat that or go without." Unless you just wanted to be contrary and weren't that hungry, you went for what was available. Same with America's love affair with gasoline/diesel. If solar/hydrogen is what is available, then you'll have to eat photons instead of long-chain hydrocarbons.

I am voting democratic because of health care. The issue is being overlooked. McCain is taxing it and I don't want a $5,000 tax credit medical voucher as I don't Owe $5,000 in taxes. This is no help and I called and a private plan will cost me $18,000! Right now, Blue Cross only cost me 83.00 a month with $30.00 co-pays. With McCain, I will be paying over 1,000 per month with less insurance! It's a joke and insult to our intelligence.

I pay $200 a month in medical back-bills for one emergency room visit my wife made. Medicaid paid for a spinal tap but they left a hole and we had to go back to get it plugged. They didn't pay for that. Cost us $9,000.
Here's some insurance reform i'd like to see. Get rid of enrollment periods. You miss your period you wait a year.

The real question should be why do oil companies only drill in 25 % of the area where they hold leases. Domestic drilling has not led to lower prices. Since 2000, drilling has increased dramatically climbing about 66% while gas prices continued to increase. Gas companies have shown that they can't keep pace with the rate of drilling permits that the federal government is handing out; over the past 4 years they have received and are sitting on nearly 10,000 permits that they aren't using to increase domestic production. They don't WANT to drill, they just want to control the extra acreage.
