From what I understand the biggest and deepest divide in India is along the language lines, and this goes against the basic concept of unity, so this is an age old problem. Unless a city or district becomes an individual and free state. Success of Mumbai is a result of hard work by peoples from all states, this city belongs to all, really. For the Marathi this might be hard to take but compromise is required,just like people from UP has done with New Delhi, and district of Uttarnchal.

@nshendye The parting of those parts of UP was due to peoples from other states and Pakistan who settled there and in time grew in numbers and enough to demand their own state. They were outsiders a few generations back. I dont know much more on it but know that UP had to compromise.

Sorry I dont know the finer detail of this so cannot comment, but can say that many from India work in states other than where they are from, they also work in the west.

Some of my family is Gujarati and I find it to be the closest language to Hindi, just that shudh Hindi sounds much more refined and pleasant. From what I understand the biggest and deepest divide in India is along the language lines, and this goes against the basic concept of unity, so this is an age old problem. Unless a city or district becomes an individual and free state. Success of Mumbai is a result of hard work by peoples from all states, this city belongs to all, really. For the Marathi this might be hard to take but compromise is required,just like people from UP has done with New Delhi, and district of Uttarnchal.

I dont think the opportunity seekers coming to Mumbai are criminals, they are just making ends meet and the hardest working people, but leaders mislead the public into believing they are bad. Envy and jealousy could be part of it too. Mumbai rightfully belongs to all peoples of the land, even if its choked and overcrowded. Just like any other city in the west, where Indians keep coming to looking for better life as well.

They get exploited to the max by some. Badness and crime is brought on in Mumbai by all extractions not just some from the North, high order crime is rife by so called white collar workers. @nshendye In fact I have some clarity on this. All major cities in India belong to one state, ie, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chenai. These are independent of their host states and have some direct control and influence from the Government. Which is a good thing. So I really dont know what you all are on about as Mumbai really does belong to everyone in India and like it or not its success is the Bollywood and hardwork by peoples from all states.

@nshendye The parting of those parts of UP was due to peoples from other states and Pakistan who settled there and in time grew in numbers and enough to demand their own state. They were outsiders a few generations back. I dont know much more on it but know that UP had to compromise.

@nshendye No one is imposing Hindi, all i am saying is it is to India what English is to the west. Its an easy and pleasant language, perfect candidate for the national language. Sure other languages have complexities and depth, but no one is pushing them out. As long as you all dont compromise there will be problems and you will have many countries in one and stay divided. I guess you all are lucky that everyone can comfortably practice their differences unlike your neighbors.

This is interesting, some of the fairest (complexion) Indian people in the west are Marathis. In fact colour in peoples in the subcontinent ranges from very dark to very fair. Even within one family. I guess the Gora rule has brainwashed people into thinking gora is beautiful, to a point where modern day Mandirs have white murtis for Krishna and Shiv :-))
