Some of these parades and marches on youtube may be scaring little kids into homophobic adults. Less than half the sites on youtube I've seen depict gay people as loveing and understanding; the ideal parents.
Calling people names, bigots for instance, is cold.
Youtube has site after site after site of scary gay parades with people stripped down to their undies, drawing on clown facepaint, chanting and wooting.
Can you imagine Pastor Martin Luther King Jr encouraging signs that say "fight the bigots" and calling people names? It's not easy to march in shiny dress shoes knowing police dogs and water canons face you.
Susan B. Anthony. Nelson Mandella, Mahatma Gandhi kept thier dignity and hoped others would do the same.
the point that you seem to not get is that we're not insulting straights. we're not insulting religious people. it's you guys that are going out of your way to step on us. we're trying to stay out of your way and live our lives with the same rights you have. so shut the fuck up. yeah?
We don't insult straights (which I am one) or religious for not being gay - we insult them for being bigots and using a bible - a book so utterly unprovable that it's a joke - in order to withhold human rights from people.
It's a bummer you feel judged and ostracized - that's how homosexuals have felt for decades.
Perhaps you should take your own advice, and get the fuck over it!
Marriage between a man and a woman has been recognized for as long as recorded history. No country needed to vote it into existence. The purpose of such a family has a lot to do with bearing and raising children - something a homosexual relationship can't do for obvious reasons. Since when did sexual preference become a civil right? These people running through the street remind me of how it must have sounded outside of Lot's house in Sodom and Gomorrah.
i live in san diego and did the march here, it was around 25,000 ppl... it was by far the most moving things i've ever seen, until i got on here and started seein the videos from all around the country... it seriously makes me cry just watchin it.... and it gives me hope that i will be able to marry my boyfriend some day
for those who are advocating violence should understand such idea and behavior can land you in jail.
for those with too much energy and misguided passion for being an "action figure", take notice: bin ladan is still at large in pakistan or afghanistan. put your money where you mouth is. go hunt down bin ladan. let's see what you are really made of, tough guy.
inciting violence against innocent people in the homeland is just cowardy, to say the least.
good to see SOME black people still support civil rights. They are notorious for not wanting gays to have equal rights even though they had to go through the same thing lol of all people they should be MORE understanding. I'm not saying they should have to protest with us, but don't try to bring us down when voting.
at this protest it was a lot of mixed races. i think a lot of black people understand the areas of similarity between the civil rights fight of the 60's, and of today.
Hello?! Gay people aren't now nor ever have been exclusively white. Before spouting off all of the resentment towards blacks, I'd wish that gays of other races would respect the black people of their own community who've been hit hardest in many ways by this. Some of the black community will look down on you for being gay, while the gay community lumps you in with their frustrations towards all black people...
Thank you for enlightening me, I had NO idea gays weren't only white.. lol
Some of the black community? More like 90 percent. I've actually never met a black person that wasn't homophobic, but I say 90 percent because I know there has to be a FEW out there. I don't direct any frustration at any particular group, I just pointed out the fact that it is very odd that black people can be so negative towards gay marriage and don't want gays to have equal rights that they were once denied aswell.
i'm always especially moved by straight people joining gay movements. it shows that people really are on our side. thanks so much to you and your husband for taking part.
We had demonstrations in support of this all across Canada in every major city, and surprisingly enough even in my city of 75,000 people! we had a rally for prop 8 at our town hall to show support. It was awesome! Im so excited this is like a major movement in the making!
Keep it up you guys, get these civil rights back. We've had them up here for 3 years nationwide - I hope you all get them soon too!
Yay to a fellow Canuck. It's pretty silly to hear all of these fears about gay marriage - when all they need to do to look at the reality of what society will look like after gay marriage is legalized, is look to the North and see Canada.
So far nobody has married their dog, and nobody has married their sister/brother/father/mother/cousin.
Life has pretty much gone on like it did before.
Oh, no churches were burned and no priest has been forced to marry gays.
Yeah. I stayed for about an hour and half, and then went to see Spring Awakening.
There were a total of six counterprotesters; four of which seem to be the same counterprotesters at every No on 8 march I've seen so far. Of course, they were surrounded by police. There was also some black woman with a sign screaming at everyone like she was possessed by the devil. There was another one that most people ignored.
yeah, we didn't get too many crazies in NYC. for or against us. that was lucky. we were all being very well informed on what to do in the event of chaos during the days leading up to this.
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to rush them and snatch their crosses and throw them to the ground and stop on them. At least that's what the cultists have been spreading like it's common at our rallies!

@9N8X Actually as of a 2010 study, 64% of Americans believe that gay marriage is acceptable in society. Get over it and get your facts straight.

they don't want to touch your religion, this has nothing to do with christianity, it is a civil rights issue.

Yea. Gay Rights! More love, less hate!

gay people should be very proud of their unity and action in speaking out against injustice and bigotry.
i am a married stright woman. my husband and i joined the protest in los angeles, california on 11/15/09.
it was my first protest for civil rights. i am confident gay people will get their equal rights under the law eventually.
stay strong. go go go...

more than 5 million people voted NO on prop 8. as we speak, more people are speaking out against prop 8.
as i learn more about the issues and the arguments from both sides, it's obviously to me the arguments of the yes side simply do not make sense.
i am confident gay people will and should get the equal rights and protection under the law as all citizens.
cheers! stay strong and keep up the good work!
