It's a dragonfly. Damselflies rest with their wings folded up, parallel to the body. Dragonfly wings stay out to the sides. You guys seriously need to research more before you go spouting off.

This wasn't exactly a fair fight. The praying mantis was much larger than the dragonfly. Had they been in equal size it would have been a much more exciting fight, intead of a mantis nom nomin on a fly. It would have been more like a fight between king kong and godzilla. RAAAAAAWWWWWRRRRR!

Gennady, your mantis looks more like Hierodula transcaucasica (or H.tenuidentata, if it is from Middle Asia).

Mantis religiosa is obviously slender.

@Nlitlekalsoy, yes, it is female, but M.religiosa females are even more slender. I've raised both species for several times, and I'm 99% sure this is not religiosa, probably H.transcaucasica or H.tenuidentata.

What an amazing insect...I breeded a female who gave me 100-200 young mantis (I'm not the father, naturally!)...it was funny hunting other ALIVE insects for them...They're dead now...sigh!
