  • I try it every time on chesscom, but even players ranked 820 know not to fall into the trap!

  • Ken, why is it that none of you mention the simple move 6.Nc3 that gives White an edge already? No need for d4 or c3. 6.Nc3 seems like a simple refutation of the Fishing Pole, and it is an obvious move to White.

  • @Averagebum2 Nc3 is playable (just as c3 and d4 are). It seems that c3 is more in spirit of the Ruy Lopez and d4 with the "fishing pole" trap.

  • @KensOfficeUSA Ken, after 6.Nc3, the Fishing Pole doesn't even work at all...so it is a trap that depends on a bad move by White. 6.Nc3 is an OBVIOUS move most people would make.

  • after watching this video, i played online chess game and it rocks..

  • the knight's move at around 8:31 taking the pawn in e5 doesn't make sense to me. if the idea is trying to take out the bishop in g3, i'd probably take the e5 pawn with the bishop d6. knight defends the bishop anyway.

  • @archleyva White can still play Re1 pinning the Bishop.

  • @KensOfficeUSA That makes sense... you're right. Thanks man!

  • Keep up the great work!!! :)

  • there are 6 other Fishing Pole Chess videos plus tons of analysis at walverine or brianwallchess-net or brianwallchess-yahoogroups

  • Thank you very much for this interesting lecture. I can actually see this working on FICS or in general in online matches.
