@AngelDemonGirl17 Actually in this song it is her voice that's why it's not exactly...well...perfect. But in other songs like Wouldn't Be Loverly it is Marni Nixon who has a beautiful voice, which you probably know.
@navyluvr08 no, this is not audrey's voice, ha. I've watched this scene like a million times and her voice always sounds way better than this. this song sounds quite different.
What bugs me about this movie, as opposed to the book, is how hypocritical eliza is.
In the 'Show Me' song she sings about wanting a man to show her how he feels, not tell her. There's freddy listening to everything she wants and he gives it to her!
In the book they get together in the end, unlike here with Higgins and her.
Everytime freddy trys to kiss her or hold her in the 'Show me' song, she backs off.
It's more natural for her and freddy to be together, not higgins who's a cold person.
I love this movie. But I don't see the problem with them remaking it. Is it possible that they're gonna butcher it? Yes. But is it possible that it's gonna make another great film? Yes. And, it'll be more of a new adaption, combining the Broadway version and the original play, Pygmalion.
As long as they get Julie Andrews to play Mrs. Higgins, and it isn't autotuned, I'll go see it. (And you never know. Maybe Carey Mulligan will be a great Eliza.)
I'm sorry, I love this musical and I LOVE this production--one of those rare productions wehre I do truly feel it's so perfect that they cannot possibly do it justice with a remake, the only way you could improve on this is, with all due respect to Ms. Hepburn, to give us Julie Andrews' voice back as Eliza--but I cannot HELP LAUGHING AT...
Jeremy Brett...MR. SHERLOCK HOLMES, chasing after a girl! XD
Well, that ought to put those Holmes/Watson inuendos to rest, eh? ;)
you'd think people would stop the whole andrews vs. hepburn debate, since this movie was made 45 years ago! personally, I love them both, but I think Audrey made a far better Eliza, even if she didn't have vocal talent. Julie just seemed too... proper for the part, I guess.
just accept that Audrey got the part. the movie was amazing and wonderful anyway, even if her voice was dubbed.
and I think its just wrong that they're remaking this. do they have to ruin everything? :/
Can I just take a moment to point out how brilliant Jeremy Brett is in this...that quick look of "Oh...an obstruction..."at 1:19 when he hits the railings... Just superb :D
Her voice has a similar quality to Glynis Johns'. Audrey Hepburn is a fantastic actress, and I love her, so don't judge me for my honesty, but she doesn't have as much natural talent as Marni Nixon did (vocally.) She really nailed the part of Eliza, but her voice isn't quite powerful enough to carry in such a strong-toned number. I love her rendition here, but I can understand why it was dubbed.
yeah Very good Idea, Warner should still own songs with the voice of Audrey, She's got the ideal voice I think, It must be released with audrey vocals !!!
I agree... I wish they would have left her singing alone, or as originally planned, with only a few notes here and there dubbed by Marni Nixon. Audrey worked extremely hard to learn how to sing for this and I think she did a great job for her character role. She has no natural talent for singing, but she hits the notes just fine. Indeed, it suits the role much better!
I admit that this wasn't one of her best songs, but I absolutely love her versions of wouldn't it be loverly and i could have danced all night. Amazing actress and she is surely missed.
After watching this, I want to know what the heck her vocal coaches were having her do! AH is definitely not a soprano, but she can have a lovely singing voice - she sounded much, much better in Funny Face than she did here (she did all her own singing in that film). A wonderful actress, but something seems so off about her vocals here. She doesn't even sound like herself.
Audrey Hepburn had more charisma, charm and talent in her little finger than Keira Knightley has in her whole body! If you think Keira Knightley was chosen to play Eliza because of her singing and acting talents, think again! It's because she is a beautiful face with mediocre abilities. And jewel-loving? Read up a little about AH before you post. You'll see she lived a fairly simple life (for a Hollywood superstar) and had a horrible, impoverished childhood.
Exactly! The idea of remaking a classic musical is preposterous anyway! If anything they should do Pygmalion (the original play) again with Keira. But even if she can sing (and who's heard her yet?), it's not like she got the part because she's such a great singer.
But in the end Henry misses her(singing I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face) & Eliza comes back for him("I washed my face & my 'and before I came, I did.").
& that man is not Henry, he's Freddy Eynsford-Hill(played by Jeremy Brett, who's actually sings quite well, but unfortunately dubbed by Bill Shirley.)
At least AH won her Oscar for Roman Holiday off her own merit, not as a peace offering from the Academy. If you think Andrews deserved to win the Oscar for Mary Poppins, watch Debbie Reynolds in The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Then tell me that the Oscar wasn't awarded to Andrews as an apology for not getting the part of Eliza, besides being an additional snub to Hepburn.
@prinz16zuko11fan How old are you? Do you even know who Audrey Hepburn was? Do some research before you malign one of film's greatest stars and one of the world's most legendary humanitarians.
well, but - I don't know - but I think she knew that she don't sing as good as Julie Andrews, and she was dubbed in the singing parts...so, I think it's ok, I mean, she really is a good actress, and as long as she acts well, it's ok, I think...
What?! This has been remade?! Oh no, no one can beat this classic.
And I think audrey's voice fits to this scene better even though she's no singer.

I won't even see this movie version. The biggies were totally unfair to Miss Andrews--she WAS Eliza Doolittle.

Audrey's singing voice sounds like crying!
It was awful!
Just ask Simon Cowell if you can't judge her lol
I'll rather take Keira Knightley, she's the MUCH better choice than that jewel-loving Belgian crap with an accent that has no nationality at all! LOL
Audrey Hepburn's no better than even that 11-year-old Bessie Cursons!!!
