  • Long Live Wales.

  • Greetings from the USA.

  • seeing all that comments here being british and welsh must be a unique feeling :D

  • I am English and wish we had a song like that when sang well it makes my heir stand up

  • @94uustrats was not really respected at ALL until 1993 very late imo

  • @94uustrats Wales has officially been respected as a seperate country to England since long before devolution. It is difficult for foreigners to understand, but Scotland, England and Wales are all "countries within a country".

  • I'm a little shocked right now - I used to go over that bridge every week to go to Bangor and I swear those kids are from the same Primary School I went to. Out of all the anthem videos on here, this is the one I click?

Dydi o ddim yn wlad fy nhad i - dwi'n Sais - ond mae Cymru yn annwyl iawn i mi :)

  • @OoohASquirrel In North East Wales if you speak Welsh you are basically welsh....so dont be worried....also most english has far back ancestors who spoke welsh.......so join the party

    Annwyl wlad mam a thad

Os nad yw hi'n fawr mae hi'n ddigon

I lenwi, i lenwi fy nghalon

    Cymru fach :)

See my channel for welsh songs

  • I am not Welsh, but that song, is beautiful, and sad that only like 600,000 (20%) use Welsh in Wales. Language I would love to learn though in the US. Its something unique... Many just go and learn Spanish, because its easy to learn. Welsh goes back to like the 1300's. I visited the old castles over there, built before it was the UK. That whole area is beautiful. I would move there if it was not so expensive...

  • This is a terrible anthem too slow without any power if you want a great national anthem listen to the Russian one its something that you can really blast out with pride.

  • @NorthernerMatty123 slow anthem? if you knew the words and were not anti welsh maybe it would have more meaning to you.......life is not all about rushing...enjoy

  • Forever proud to be of Welsh ancestry. Cymru am byth.

  • Go Welsh!

  • ....Can i have this in english?

  • Very nice!

  • Greetings from England! Loving the anthem. Out of interest any Welsh people on here, do you favour an independent Wales or a United Kingdom?

  • Wales should be independent and speak only welsh.

  • @94uustrats are u joking welsh is the oldest language to still be used in europe it was respected a long time before england was ever created

  • Born and raised in Aberystwyth! Cynrychioli! Represent!

  • @94uustrats Wales has always beens a country

  • As an American, I am proud to tell everyone that I meet, that my family is from Wales. I have traced my origin to Sir John Gaines. His son, Thomas, was one of the 120 settlers of Jamestown, Virginia, the first colonial settlement in the Americas for King James I.

  • and the welsh north wa never conquered. important to those of us who siarrad cymrage,,,

  • Is that Bodnant infants?

  • That's not quite correct, but the answer is long and complicated. Wales is an ancient country, which was conquered by England in the 1500s and became part of "England and Wales". In 1999 it got its own parliament, called "The Welsh Assembly". The Welsh language had been declining, but at the moment its enjoying something of a revival. Most people speak English, but about 20% of the population can speak Welsh.

  • @notyobs This isn't quite right either. Wales was conquered by Edward I in the 13th century, and the Act of Union came about between the years 1536 and 1543. Henry VIII was worried that the Marcher Lords (who were basically kings within their own areas of land) were against his split from Rome and were harbouring those he viewed as criminals. He was worried that the Welsh would comply if the French or Spanish Catholic powers invaded. So he resolved to tighten his grip on Wales.

  • @notyobs In reality, the Act of Union was a series of laws that stated that Wales had to be represented by an English Parliament, and English had to become the official language. This was resented by many of the Welsh people.

  • @notyobs so only 20% speek it so can i ask y all the sines r in welsh if all of them speek english not meening to ofrend i love the welsh but it semms i bit of money waster

  • @notyobs This comment might be 8 months old but just to correct you the Normans counted as the English when they invaded you way before the 1500s.

  • check out my WELSH COMEDY videos (hollywood movie voice overs) LOOK at my CHANNEL

  • im proud to be Welsh

its my ground zero because theres no place safer than wales but i dont speak much welsh

  • Rwy'n Hwngareg, nid wyf yn Cymraeg. Rwy'n gallu deall ychydig y bobl sy'n cael trafferth i oroesi bob dydd. Cymru i fyw am byth. Long yn byw y gwledydd bach!

  • The Celtic languages of the Isles have various lilts in their speaking. When I first went to a Welsh-American event, I hear a guy who I thought had a Scots accent, but he'd been born and raised in Wales. The Scouse dialect of Liverpool is much like that heard in Dublin, for a good number of people from that area emigrated to Liverpool for work. And yes there is a similar lilt.

  • i am not welsh but my nanna and grandad are so what a wonderful way to remember them by this fantastic national anthem :D

    dduw achub gwrymiau .

  • john lennon had a welsh mother and liverpool is only a stones throw away, i think his fathers side is irish ,so i think he was mostly celtic stock, yes the man talking at the start has a north wales accent

  • I thought Welsh people spoke English

  • they speak welsh and english

  • so glad im fluent welsh speaking,

  • this sond makes my think how proud i shuld be to be welsh ;')

  • The language looks like someone fell over a scrabble board but still, good anthem hehe. I don't live very far from Wales but i wish i could speak Welsh, just for the satisfaction of knowing another language.

  • @JAC1D1O it's only like that because it wasn't written at all till 1000 years after it was being spoken

  • i'm not welsh at all but we sang this every day in my school (which was in england)

  • Why?

  • because you were in west england right? , welsh is speaked there is like catalonia and valencian community

  • eich Cymraeg yn set ofnadwy o savages

  • Tros ryddid collasant eu gwaed, Cymru am byth- Da ni yma o hyd

  • does that guy at the beginning have a welsh accent? he soundsli ke john lennon is he welsh too

  • John Lennon was from Liverpool. Kind of between English and Scottish I think, but quite genuine in itself.

  • no and no!!

  • great anthem!!!

  • Cymru Am Byth :)

  • The anthem makes me smile and proud to be Welsh, shame I cant sing like that though

  • I live in America but my ancestors and my heritage is Welsh. I would love to come visit. I look forward to the day to be back to the land where my family originally came from.

  • And very welcome you will be - the Welsh are very warm and kind ( a bit rough but hey who isn't) - croeso dere ti

  • i thought they spoke english in wales.. is this their main language!?!?!

  • yes we do in wales it is just in north wales they speak welsh

  • such lovely people i cannot understand why they hate the British so much.

  • I recently just found out I'm part Welsh, but I have a question, does being Welsh have any relations to English?

  • England and Wales are part of the United Kingdom, along with Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Welsh were in the British isles long before the English.

  • and one of the best part of the united kingdom , if not the best , and a great language too¡¡¡¡

  • @ArcticZephyr it's a different ethnology - the English are descendants of north French (from Normandy), Vikings and other Germanic tribes, and the remnants of whatever Celtic inhabitants remained. The Welsh are the descendants of the Celtic inhabitants of the island who fled westward during the Roman invasion. They are an older nation than the English, and quite distinct

  • Shiblu gira dibu libby jibby shibeth! look i can make up words too!!!

  • WALES!!!!!

  • pyleth dor i'm wednej lawet O J'ied Cymru dos crechz lo'f ha'za-freng'

  • my heratige is lovely the earth should be like wales

    safe

  • the tempo's too fast :(

  • there is a cove in lake Travis(Austin Texas) named walsh cove. walsh is my grandmothers maden(SP?) name. and everyone in my family says i look more welsh than anything else. it is cool to know your past. I will always be a true Texan until I die, however i consider my self a son of the Welsh people.

  • you have forgotten your past and your children wont know their identity

  • love this

Im proud to be half welsh

  • this vid has been very helpful in learning Welsh pronunciation! :D Thanks, it was very well done, kids!

  • Cymru ydi wlad gora! ac rydw i yn ffalch i bod yn cymraeg

  • Cymru Am Byth !!

  • Diolch yn fawr notyobs, dyma fendigedig!!

Dyma wella na phopeth else ar youtube o'r enw Welsh national anthem.

  • I haven't got a clue what that says, but I've approved it in the hope that it's nothing rude!

  • I didn't say anything rude. I thought you would be able to speak Cymraeg.

  • It wasn't anything bad, he/she said thanks for the video, it's excellent and better than everything else on here called Welsh National Anthem!!! :-D

  • Excellent. Thanks for the translation!

  • Happy to be of assistance!!! :-D

  • @notyobs

    (Or in Welsh)

    Ardderchog. Diolch am y cyfieithiad!

  • don't worry notyobs it's not rude. it's a compliment!

  • Very very nice, such a beautifull language and a great culture :P. But im always wondering, how does an ethic Cymry looks like. I mean a man of germanic heritage has light hair and eyes. Im just wondering how a Cymry 'd look like, ive never been there (too bad).

  • Well me and a lot of my friends (and their families) have dark wavy hair and dark eyes, but a lot of my friends also have blue/green eyes, but that could just be my friends so I don't think my description counts! Most people I know here (North Wales) are quite tall, a lot of the older men from the small old villages are short/average in height, a lot of them say (yes this quote is true!) "It's to get down the mines!" .

But you'll have to come here at some point and decide for your self!!! :-D

  • cymru am byth!

  • I'm not Welsh..and I don't understand a word of what they're singing..but, I love the melody..

You have a great National Anthem

I admire it.. This video is fantastic..

Is there someone there who could translate it in English for me..? It would be greatly appreciated..Thanks :)

  • translation, like you asked. :)

The land of my fathers is dear to me,

A land of poets and minstrels, famed men.

Her brave warriors, patriots much blessed,

It was for freedom that they lost their blood.

    Homeland! I am devoted to my country;

So long as the sea is a wall

    to this fair beautiful land,

    May the ancient language remain.

from the best welsh Village, LLanfairpwllgwyngyllgogeryllchwyndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch,xx

  • Is this a reply to my comment..? the translation?...

    It's beautiful....!!!

    Thanks so much Welsh people!

  • thank you...

  • here is a fairly good accurate translation of the main part of the anthem...

The land of my fathers is dear unto me,

Old land where the minstrels are honoured and free:

Its warring defenders, so gallant and brave,

For freedom their life's blood they gave

Land!,Land!,True I am to my land!

    While seas secure,

    this land so pure,

o may our old language endure.

I love wales because its great and i am stunning. lol

  • @ mush1955

Even I, a Czech, can hear pronunciation differences in various versions of this song :)

Particularly "eu" varies widely... Btw, what does "eu" mean?

  • It means 'their' or 'its'

  • The Welsh anthem is beautiful, the choir sounds like angels singing in heaven.

  • Awsome! I love this song so much, and enjoy playing it on the electric dulcimer!

  • wales is the best

  • absolutely beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • Truly the elvish of the real world.

Is there a version with all the verses sung?

  • I don't get it: what was in my comment "Truly the elvish of the real world" so bad that it deserves to be rated down? Come on, whoever did that. Explain it.

Matter of fact, Sindarin was built by Tolkien aftert he Welsh language, is Welsh is indeed the evish of the real world. However: Elvish is nice sounding and a beautiful language, yet only invented, while WELSH is a real one.

So again: what deserves teh comment to be rated down?

  • Maybe your 10% fact is based on 'Welsh Fluent speakers in the South of Wales', but when applying this theroy to the North of Wales, Well over 75% of the population speak fluent Welsh as a first language.

    ~~

But I'm still to find what your comment is in relavence to your argument that Wales should not be considered a country, and should be viewed as a principality.

  • The fact remains however, that Welsh was the first language of Britian, and is wildly spoken in Argentina, America and Canada.

Not to mention its one of Europes oldest (if not the oldest), languages, I guess thats worth a mention when speaking about Wales.

Also for the fact of less than 10% speak it is incorrect as every educated individual in Wales speaks some decree of Cymraig (as stated in the Welsh National Curriculum).

  • @ bobsey 04

But how do you define an "old" language? Let me quote Herakleitos (Heraclitus): "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."

Still, Welsh is a wonderful language!

  • i have to learn this for my assembly

  • i love wales am english but use to have family in pontycymer mid glam

  • My jaw dropped... that is so beautiful...

  • It's very beautiful song !

The national anthem of Brittany is the same...."Bro gozh ma zadoù" !

Thank you for this song !!!

  • the welsh language and the language of brittany are very similar.

  • But Different !

  • great stuff !!

Coming to wales (llandudno) over christmas hols for a week ... love the place, reminds me of my own home in the himalayan foothills back in India.

  • How do you pronounce the Welsh name of Wales?

    (Cymru)

as in how would you litteraly phoneticaly spell it in English so I know who to say it?

  • sort of kaym-roo

  • cumre

  • coom-ree

The coom is sorter though, somewhere between cum and coom.

  • Do you know where this was filmed?

  • Menai Bridge North Wales

  • if those kids sang the anthem at the milenium stadium i would cry my eyes out they are superb, get them on that choir show on bbc1 and lets hear true talent thanx you made me proud to be welsh.

  • i love my home country [WALES!] Really good voices x

  • I love my home country as well (Portugal)...

But when u listen to this anthem ur heart just stop for a minute or two... amazing

  • Born in America to Welsh Dad and maternal Welsh grandparents. I will sing the anthem at the top of me lungs as taught by me tad. CYMRU AM BYTH to the Morgas, Watkins, Davies and Thomas.

  • dioloch

  • JR Tolkein once stated that Welsh and Finnish were the 2 most beautiful languages on Earth

As for the English - not only are you basically Germans. But the "house of Tudor" responsible for Henry 7th 8th and Elizabehth 1 were all Welsh

So you could say - the Welsh actually made "England" what it is today !

  • djhowls .....please don't say " the Welsh actually made "England" what it is today ! " ....we don't wanna get the blame for bad workmanship ! ( LOL )

  • well god save the queen is the national anthem, making this a very patriotic song, and a godo one at that

  • "AY" gwyrol? 'BAYRTH' for beirdd? we poor welsh learners havent a chance. I thought it was 'eye' gwyrol. The Welsh learners are taught a hybrid of dialects here in the US. Where is this choir from? I want to reference them when I am accused of mispronouncing Welsh again (and I am guilty of course but does everyone have to know it?)

  • It is spelt 'Eu'. The first letter prononunced like 'E' as in 'E' in Eliphant. Oh....don't worry....I don't think you are far wrong. Anyway, these children are North Walians and are singing in their beautifull accent/pronunciation.

  • above response was to griffcat

  • Ay you right there butty my Mrs is Danish and even she could hear that these wonderfull kids were singing it in a different dialect than I do. Which proves that not all Welsh are

    " Taffys " ( South ) theres also the " GOGS " ( North )

  • Thx 4 the Nice clip!

May I ask how do u divided celts? or Scandinavian(is it Scandinvians r from the northern europe?) where r the celts from ? R they from Roman Empire? Where r the English from? U all look like the same I don't know how to divided each other?

  • celts were the original british but after centuries of invasions (the romans came and pushed the celts into wales, scotland and north england. then the saxons and scandinavians came then the normans (northern french) came. The English descend from german, french etc as does the language. Celts are now spit between scotland, wales, Ireland (and northern i), Isle of man and cornwall in england. Brittany in france is also celtic. Irish and scottish languages are similar as is welsh and cornish.

  • Thx 4 ur very clear reply.

  • Angelic voices from the schoolchildren makes this a real pleasure to listen to.

  • Hahah, the North-Walean pronounciation of the national anthem is so funny..

  • eww no its north wales +O(

  • haha just spotted my cousin!! well ripping him!! he's 24 now!!

  • GO WALES !!

    XD

  • The Welsh anthem is beautiful, the choir sounds like angels singing in heaven. Thank you for sharing.

  • I wouldn't mind learning gaelic

  • Very noble idea, although Welsh isn't Gaelic. They are related, but not as much as, say, Scottish and Irish Gaelic. It would be a good endeavor either way.

  • its great to seeing the younger generation singing the national anthem. cymru am byth twll dyn pob sais

  • when i say this i am speaking on behalf of wales. the welsh love their country and proud of it!

  • Welsh sounds great!

  • Nice to see this was filmed in Menai Bridge. I spent many a summer with my GrandParents who lived in the village 2 Mountain View just by the Fire Station

  • cymru am byth

the welsh scots n irish r true britons

  • try convincing the BNP.

  • Land on my fathers =O

  • There's an English phonetic version of the first verse handy for non-Welsh speakers at public events By singing this they can appear to to sing the anthem: My hen laid a haddock, one hand oiled a flea, Glad farts and centurions threw dogs in the sea, I could stew a hare here and brandish Dan's flan, Don's ruddy bog's blocked up with sand. Dad! Dad! Why don't you oil Auntie Glad? Can whores appear in beer bottle pies, O butter the hens as they fly!

  • the welsh are the real britons

  • !!! so many clashing letters!!! i can't even pronounce them!

  • I've just found the same song sung in breton on youtube :O it's called "bro gozh ma zadou"

  • That incredible. I wonder what the story is behind that? According to Wikipedia, the tune was written in 1856 by the harpist James James of of Pontypridd, Glamorgan.

  • I believe the bretons borrowed this song and changed the lyrics.

  • There is also a Cornish version.

  • can go iawn well dun pobol CYMRU AM BYTH ynte. well dun. xxxxx

  • Whether it is sung by children or Rhos Orpheos, that is a lovely anthem. Thank you for sharing with us.

  • Nice. I love the country wales and the citizen Welsh. And it's just because of one simple band called Lostprophets from Wales.

  • british union

  • That's absolutely beautiful. I'm not Welsh, unfortunately, but I've fallen in love with the country all the same. It's a beautiful place with a beautiful language, and hearing it being sung is even better. Lovely video!

  • Fabulous!! I love it!! Children singing make me cry! (They have such lovely voices.) Wales is a beautiful and magical country!!

    Sandy xx

  • There is nothing so beautiful as children's voices in song. A very nice tribute.

  • Thanks Mel for the share beautiful country and although I do prefer a Male voice choir singing this anthem the children did a lovely version of it 5*.....Barbara

  • I've always wanted to hear something in Welsh, and this was so beautifully done. 5 Stars! Thank you for posting this.
