  • this manga is about

ambition inspiration friendship terrorist technology mafia power faith fool genius and YES ROCK N' ROLL

  • This manga is so freaking awesome, it actually features characters that are 100% humane, people with all their dimensions, not just black and white, people from the whole fucking rainbow.

  • Thumbs up if you listen to 20th century boys while reading 20th Century Boys. I swear to god, this better be the opening song if they do make the anime.!

  • Thanks, Naoki, you gave us the Greatest story ever.

    "Friend is there".

  • 1巻出た頃から、単行本で読んでたけどさ、やっぱすげえよこのマンガ

    映画見たことないから 見てみたいな

  • some people are too stupid to understand THIS VIDEO IS A TRIBUTE TO NAOKI URASAWA'S MANGA "20TH CENTURY BOYS" if you were only looking for T-REX's song go look somewhere else !!

  • @RIPhikennoace Well, the T-rex song is what the manga was based off of, and it's in the video so....

  • Me estoi viendo la trilogia y voi en la segunda peli, las dimenciones que toma son realmente fantasticas , de lo mejor que e visto ste año. RECOMENDADISIMOOOOOOOO

  • Awesome

  • Awesome

  • @IanGainsborough I thought it crapped out halfway through. Urasawa might be good at creating interesting mysteries, but he doesn't do a good job with endings. Did you even care who Friend turned out to be? It was the most boring choice imaginable that did little to enlarge the story. Plus (I forget the main character's name) turning up alive and just being like "oh, I had amnesia", wtf was that?

  • @lorezapocalypse

Yeah, he probably ran out of ideas or something. The first 120/130 chapters are really good but after that it wasn't as interesting as before. Still one of my favourites though,

  • @TheStoneAlexander read the manga or watch the trilogy "20th century boys" and you'll understand the reason of this video.

  • LOL the only thing that's stupid is you, Bossk14. This is a great series by a respected manga artist. Both the song and the series kick ass.

  • 20世紀少年最高です!デンデデデデン♪デーンデデーンデー♪

  • I'm 21. Like all other friends of mine, my interest are facebook, youtube, football, reality show, porn... Oh gosh, what's a bunch of losers.

Everybody was so cool 10 years ago. There's a guy who can fight 10 people at once, and I beat him once. Me and my classmates created a group called "Black blood", along with a spell which sounded very cool. We go discover everything, from haunted house on the mountain or school's library. I remember seeing ghost twice..

I FUCKING MISS MY CHILDHOOD *sigh*

  • Good job.

  • 珍がドアップwwww

  • If you like this manga read Eden. Its like the post apocolyptic action version of this. Also I think the only flawed thing about the manga was Kenji comming back, all wierd and that.

  • @withey11 Thanks for spoiler alert.

    signed,

A read who had no idea whether Kenji was going to return or not.

  • @withey11 Thanks for spoiler alert.

  • did kenji kun died in the manga?

  • @Razaej nop, he survived

  • The muvee is so great!! and the manga is the best!

  • detroit rock city

  • The movies were fucking amazing tooo!! :D

  • Well, 20thCB is the most astonishing story ever told, not just the best manga ever.

The kids. The Book of prophecies. The Friend. Kenji. Katsumata. Sadakiyo. Fukubei. The masked kid. The giant robot. The virus. The ghost at school. Lieutenant Collins.

How many characters. How many emotions. What a terrible, hopeless, amazing story.

    What a manga.

On your knees, gentlemen : this is a fuckin' masterpiece.

  • @friend5001 It's amazing how an old-school classic rock song conveyed such deep meaning to Urasawa and inspired him to create an epic mystery/suspense/sci-fi/drama manga series.

  • 20th Century Boys FTW!!!!

  • j'aime quand c'est le youtube d'"avant" avec le ront à l'extérieur pas à l'intérieur !

  • Urasawa is my hero.

  • urasawa naoki must've got enlightened

  • @knightking1360 thats seriously the most make sense comment ever i see in utube

20th century boys is in totally different levelt han mangas. so good it is i still don want to admit its my favorite manga, rather my favorite art fiction

  • The guitar riff at the beginning gives me an orgasm. <3

  • GREAT!!!!

  • Second favorite manga series of all time, first would have to be Berserk.

  • @bloodysunday27 Ya Berserk has had me entranced since i was a little kid. Kill Griffith!

  • At 2:03 There's a character just like Kenzo Tenma (above a cap reading MARS), and, Master Kaine is also quite similar to Tenma too, why is that he likes to repeat a siluet in his manga? BTW Naoki Urasawa rocks!

  • I only have one word for this series: Epic.

  • Best Manga

  • If we're talking about great mangas.. Berserk? Though it's getting a little too fantasy-like for my taste, now.. Still amazing :]. Gantz is good if you're into gore.. Shin Angyo Onshi. Eternal Sabbath (I haven't finished it though, so forgive me if it sucks completely O_o). etc. etc. Monster and Vagabond were already mentioned. ,_, Tenjou Tenge, Beck, Death Note.. You can go on and on. I like Team Medical Dragon, too.. /shrug. Are the movies for 20th Century Boys any good?
  • @DimmuKornReflux

It's okay but not as good as the manga

    (spoilers)

It begins after the first time skip (right after Otcho saves the mangaka's hand from being crushed) with Otcho recapping prior events.

What I liked: It's a pretty faithful adaption

What I didn't: some important characters (like Fukubei and God) were rushed. Also some of the events are altered, left out or done out of sequence. Plot also relies on viewer being familiar with the manga's story

    (end)

    Hope that helps you.

  • @DimmuKornReflux You're seriously going to bring Death Note into account? That manga doesn't even compare to this at all. Seriously, I would bet my entire life on the fact that Death Note doesn't stand a chance against these incredible works of art.

  • @HamsterPants522

Um, Death Note is just okay.. It's worth a read, that's it.

20th Century Boys. Also 'just okay,' in my opinion. I loved it, until every single fucking person who was supposed dead was alive in the end. It just ruined the whole manga. Them dying was the best thing that could have happened to this manga, and I could live with a few surviving to end "Friend," but not all of them.. It was a good manga, yes, but nowhere near as good as it could have been.

  • @HamsterPants522

Also, Vagabond, Berserk, Shin Angyo Onshi, and Monster are much much better mangas than this. I realize Monster is by the same author, I'm just stating that this manga is complete shit in comparison to some others.

  • @DimmuKornReflux I disagree with your opinion on this manga.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the greatest story I've ever read.

20th Century Boys is the manga that Urasawa WANTED to write, it's his baby. He made that exactly the way that he wanted it to be. For that reason, and because of my absolute support for him, I do not care about anyone's opinion that the story should have been different, or that it was even flawed for that matter.

  • @HamsterPants522

Well, congradulations to him for writing the story that he wanted, but I would have done it differently, and in my opinion their deaths would have made the story much much better.

You're saying that this manga is perfect in your opinion, and you would change absolutely nothing about it if you could?

  • @DimmuKornReflux Yes. Upon my analysis, I found no flaws in the characters, the plot, the art direction, or the music.

He wrote the story to enforce certain narratives. The reason he didn't kill everyone off is because he wasn't going for a sad or psychological story, it's partly psychological, but not nearly as much as Monster or PLUTO.

I only judge things by their quality, because I see no justice in judging things any other way. I refuse to have a preference in how a story should be written.

  • @HamsterPants522

No flaws? He killed off all of his characters, then brought them all back in a half-ass manner, for the most part. It seemed to me that he killed them off, and after allowing a few to live, decided he wanted them ALL back. Then just threw them around randomly in the story, trying to make the plot thereafter seem intelligent and planned out, when in reality he just threw shit together on impulse and made the story as he went along.

  • @HamsterPants522

Also, it seems to me that you lack an opinion of your own. I doubt such is true, but it appears like that to me.

Obviously the story would be perfect if you thought of it only in the perspective of the author, and that it is exactly how he intended it to be (therefore is a masterpiece?).

Not having preferences in things isn't good. Sure, open-mindedness is a good quality to an extent, but you should at least take the time to form your own opinion about something rather

  • @DimmuKornReflux The only opinions I have are the ones that avoid holding personal preferences between genre, demographic, or theme.

My philosophy on art is based completely around judging a piece of work according to it's quality in every single area. The complexity of the characters, the flow of the plot, the character designs, the artwork, the symbolism, etc. The reason I do this is because I want to recommend works that are worth the time, unlike things such as Naruto or Soul Eater.

  • @HamsterPants522

Hah, well, Naruto and Soul Eater are terrible. As well as most shounen, such as Bleach, Bakuman, etc.

I do however, like One Piece.

I stand true to my belief that not having personal preferences on anything whatsoever is a bad thing. Without your 'personal preferences,' you have hardly an opinion of your own, need I explain why that's a bad thing? You should prefer something over another, depending on YOUR likes, not the mangaka's.

  • @DimmuKornReflux I just don't believe in self-indulgence. I don't read a manga looking for it to be the way i want it to, I read it looking to be surprised or enlightened with the important lessons it has to teach, and to become attached to the realistic characters. You yourself said that Naruto sucks. If you are merely saying that because you don't personally enjoy it, then you shouldn't even say anything at all. There's a difference between saying, "I dislike that" and "that sucks".

  • @HamsterPants522

Also, I'm glad he made the manga the way he wanted to, and that is admirable. But if I could change anything about the manga, there would be A LOT of aspects I'd change in the storyline.

I would form it into what I like, and would enjoy doing it.

How can you criticize me for wanting to change a story to my likings, based on my 'personal preferences (which you don't seem to have), when the mangaka created the manga based on HIS preferences.. And is a genius to you for it.

  • @HamsterPants522

than call it 'perfect' because it was what the author intended.

In that sense, you could say practically ANYTHING was "flawless," because they made it as they "WANTED" to.

  • @DimmuKornReflux It's not perfect because it's the way he wanted it to be. It's perfect because he's a genius with masterful writing skills.

But it would not have been nearly as good if he wasn't enjoying himself. Writing that manga was important to him, and doing what he wants to do before his fans is very essential to the overall quality of the work.

  • 20th century boys, Pluto, and Monster. Best manga ever!

  • @biggitydiddity

    You forgot Vagabond.

If you haven't read that, you're missing out. Everyone who enjoys Monster and 20th Century Boys likes Vagabond.

  • @AssholePatrol Yup im reading Vagabond and loving it. Im not finished with it though. I read online and cant seem to find the last chapters. know any sites that have the completed set?

  • @biggitydiddity

    The series isn't done yet

  • @AssholePatrol Yes it is. It just hasn't all be translated into english...

  • cuuteh<3

  • Such an awesome manga...

It seemed like the whole story and all details were completely planned beforehand but I think the ending lacked a little...

Still, it has become one of my favorites.

And of course the song that gives the manga its name is plain cool.

I still have hopes of watching an anime adaption someday.

  • One of best mangas/comics ever written, no matter what the genre or nation of origin

  • sheer awesomeness

  • This was one of the best mangas in my opinion. It has a mix of realisitic fiction with both americian and japanese culture xD Rock On Urasawa!!!!

  • I want an anime of this, but a real good adaptation like Monster, not a censored shit like anime nowadays.

This manga is awesome in so many ways...

  • @lmk10000 man then u shud watch the movies wihich has some backstory drops and everything but u know no major differences timings are different but u know the people who die still die.

  • @lmk10000 I believe they have a 3-part live action movie adaptation.

  • @lmk10000

20th Century Boys could be the greatest anime ever.

  • this is one of the best mangas i've ever read...........no wait! this is the greatest manga ever!

  • PROTIP: If you give spoilers, you'll look like a faggot

  • i watched the feature film with real people when i lived in japan.. its so good, i loved it! and the characters actually looked like the ones in the manga

  • In the 21st Century Bolan still rules!!

  • Comment removed

  • Wholeheartedly agree with all the Urasawa praise. Monster, 20th/21st Century Boys, and Pluto all rule. His new manga, Billy Bat, looks quite promising as well.

I hope they make animes out of 20/21cb and Pluto (And maybe someday Billy Bat) like they did with Monster, which I felt was a perfect adaption from manga to anime.

Hear that Powers That Be!? More Urasawa anime adaptions! The movie trilogy isn't enough! :-P

  • Fantastic. A great marriage of the music and artwork from the manga.

    Top Notch stuff.

  • Marathoned the whole thing in one night. Hooooly shit, this manga is AMAZING.

  • dude....you must be lying coz there are 260 chapters with average 18 pages/chapter....lol....i spent the whole night but only get 60 chapters done

  • Late, but I can honestly say that I was not lying. I'm a fairly fast reader! Granted, when I say "one night", I meant from around 8-9 pm to around 4 am. :>

  • in one night, that's something... salutes you...

  • Hahah, why thank you!

  • WOW JUST WOW

brings me back memories reading this great mangas 20CB and 21CB!!

  • NAOKI URASAWA IS A FUCKING GENIUS! ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A MANGA FAN AND HASN'T READ THIS, IS A DICK! yeah, he's just that good. words cant describe how fucking sensational this comic is, completely life changing. What a manga-ka.

  • friking love this manga! this is a must read more manga fans! 20 century boys ROCKS!

  • @knightking1360 , i totally agree about Naoki Urasawa being a genius !! Shame on who hasn't read his mangas yet, especially 20th century boys ;)

It's a pity all movies extracted from books or manga don't match their excellence though...

  • @knightking1360 i was a dick since 2 weeks ago XD

  • @knightking1360 watch the movies then

  • T-Rex 20th Century Boy

  • T-Rex : 20th century boys

  • This manga deserves to be way more popular... I remember getting hooked on it and reading basically the entire series....

By far the best manga I have ever read, and life-changing.

  • yeah, it should...best ive ever read!:P monster rocked 2.

  • thanks for posting this. just finished the series today. never realized this was the song they were referencing. thanks for making this!!!

  • Never heard of this artist, but good choice of song!

  • @AshtonArcher You should get into T-Rex if you haven't already! They have some really good stuff!

  • Great author....

  • Urasawa is great at what he does, just finished 20th century boys, just started Monster and Pluto

  • Urasawa is my favorite mangaka, and I haven't even read all his stuff yet, but I plan on it.

  • i love how this turned out XD i loved the manga altho its still quite open to an ending x.x

  • to Malkaking: did you read the whole manga, which includes 21st Century Boys? is that what you mean when you say 'being open to an ending'?

  • i just read 21st century boys its a good end

  • I absolutely love this video. 5*****

  • This I'm only a few volumes in, but if the quality keeps up, this may even top Vagabond as my favorite manga.

  • 20th century boys was very well written. The plot constantly kept me hooked.

  • Friend's mask is the face of Ninja Hattori

  • Just finished 20th Century Boys today... I couldn't stop reading it... it was so good. Now I'm sad It's over...

I will read Pluto in a few days... don't really feel like reading anything after reading 20th Century Boys... I feel like nothing could match up to how great it is.

The characters in this mange were great, unlike most mangas... they actually seemed real. I loved how it took place between 1969-2014 it made me feel like I knew the characters... like I grew up with them even.

  • did ya read 21st Century Boys?

  • why don't you watch the movie's now?

  • One of my favorite bands, and one of my favorite songs before the manga. I'm glad to have been part of such a fantastic story after reading the manga.

  • T-Rex was my favorite band before the manga, and this was one of my favorite songs. After reading the manga, I know I was right.

  • Good video, great song, AWESOME MANGA!

  • Great Video - thanks

  • my all time favourite manga. enough said.

  • lol...and after urasawa naoki was assasinated by occho, you were the onw who replace him.

  • This manga is truly the greatest I have ever read in my life, the way everything comes together so beautifully. The author is truly a genius, if you enjoyed this please read Pluto also a masterpiece. Words just cannot describe how good this manga is. I haven't watched the movie yet but I am looking forward to.

  • Awsome. Just awsome, you've did a hell of a job on this.

  • You guys should try reading Pluto. It needs more love D:

Btw, 20th Century is really good, but I like Monster better (:

  • Tacomunchz you are right Pluto is a fucking master piece I especially like Gesicht, also this manga is a masterpiece to. If you do not like this manga I will find were you live and drop kick you in the neck.

  • Not only one of the best series I have ever read but also perhaps one of the best stories ever.

  • shoguns a great character

  • When I'm in the mood for 20th Century Boys I watch this video.

  • Watch this Urasawa's English intervew.

    watch?v=tCF9dliGIqA

  • 1:10 looks like Dr. Tenma

  • Tenma's more adorable ~<3

  • this is one of the best manga ever created

  • SPOILER:

20th century boys and Monster are both masterpieces written by Urasawa Naoki, I liked 20th CB even more thn monster till chapter 140. or so. The second friend was a stupiid idea, he could have ended it with the dead of fukubei but he didnt. After that , it was still cool but... the tension was gone. Even so, this is one of the best manga ive ever read.

nice man, u also showed us the chapter with the tournament:P Nagava Rabbit or something like that?

  • o no, i have to disagree. i liked how the original friend was matsukata-kun or whatever. i think thats how it ended in 21rst century boys. anyway, i liked it because you never really hear much about him and thats kinda why fukubei was pissed and all. not only did kenji and everyone forget matsu but they hardly even put him in the story so it makes you feel like you didnt know him also. any, it kicked ass

  • It kicked ass but: the ufo's and the anti-preton bomb were just stupid. When Kenji returned I thought: wow, great! But I didnt like Kenji at all (when he returned). He thought he was a god or something. I repeat: is is still one of the best ever written, I really enjoyed it.

  • auug! spoiler... ;3;

  • I supose you mean 21th boys. In wich case I must agree with you. 21th boys was nowhere near as good as 20th boys.

  • I don't think 21th boys exists xD jkjk

21st century bots was like a follow-up, it just answered some unfinished things.

  • all the ufo and proton etc werein friends mind ... like beng in a child's state .

  • word. nice man, love the song and read the manga. works nicely.

  • I Love 20th Century Boys <3

  • It was pretty good, but I still liked monster better.

  • Comment j'aime trop ce manga quoi

  • Comment removed

  • 友達って誰??

  • One of the most sophisticated manga I've ever read. :: Thumbs up ::

  • マンガのほう見てみたいなー

  • Good editting !!

  • Great song - great art - can't wait to read the comic and see the film

  • To everyone wondering, the first movie won't be subbed until it comes out fresh in DVD quality, which will be on January 30th. Even then, it could be a while before they sub it.

    8)

  • I just saw it last night at the theatre, and it was subbed, so there you go.

  • awesome!

  • これは、スゴイ!!!

  • Awesome love this song and manga does anyone know when the first movie will be available online?

  • how did it end? i read it already but i forgot

  • try onemanga to find out.

  • One of my absolute favorite mangas. Great video, it's got a lot energy to it.

  • I loved the manga. I only hope that the movie does it justice.

  • I like this song

  • I admire the characters development on 20th century boys. The number of characters are massive, sometimes it might be hard to keep tracking who's who.. but once you get a grip on the story (and not skipping pages), it's pretty easy to follow. Every character has its own story... even small character does! It's amazing.. 20th Century Boys are.

  • love the manga and music!!!

  • かっこいい!

  • 很好

  • then y are you on here

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • What's the song?

  • 20th century boy, by T.Rex

  • wow love the music!
