Used a few of the old Yazoos.. from the YR-48 up to the Yr-76. One lawnservice I worked for has a YR-60 with that catcher on it with a briggs blower on it.. my ears still ring from it 30 years later. I also remember using a few YR-48 with that box catcher on the side.
OK, I am a little late to the party, but I just got my YR-60 a few months ago. It is a fairly early model. It has the AGND Wisconsin and NO Safety switches of any kind. Still working out a few kinds but it is already my favorite mower ever. I mow about 2+ acres and this thing is a beast.
I do need to adjust the clutch, I have read how to do it, anyone ever done it themselves?
The YR-48 used the 16HP Briggs cast iron single cylinder engine. The YR-60 and 76 used the Wisconsin TJD twin cylinder. Later, the decks were sold separately, and you could get a 48" cut with the TJD. It was unusual to see this combination. I think the model # of the Briggs engine was 326437. Yazoo was Briggs' last customer for that engine. I love a Yazoo! I still hVe a YHRLD21 with a PSR60. It has a Kubota 21.5HP diesel on it.
@mississippichris I remember that single cylinder Briggs engine very well. I believe it still lives on in China! It was an absolute warhorse of an engine - right up there with the TJD and the single Wisconsin AGND. Nothing like starting one of those engines as well!
I have a YR-60 that I guess is a slightly newer design than this I think, because mine has a right angle drive on the deck which is powered by a PTO shaft and has the discharge chute on the other side. It has an 18 hp Wisconsin engine which may be one of best engines ever made. I can cut about two acres in less than an hour. It's a great mower.
The Yazoo mower is great to use. I much prefer it over today's lever-controlled ZTR mowers. I've had two--one that was sold with a farm and had the Briggs and Stratton single cylinder on it. The one I've got now is a 42" model with the twin cylinder Wisconsin, and it works perfectly. Looks like the paint has faded quite a bit compared to the video, and there's no more dead-man switch on it.
Anyway, great video - 5/5. Wish they still made 'em that way!
I have one. The YR42. I am restoring it and funny thing is it has a 16hp single cylinder Briggs and not the wisconsin. I cant get parts for the briggs so I will have to fing a wisconsin or break down and find a kohler to put on it. I use it for my lawn service and its the best mower I have ever used. I cant wait till im done with it and beable to use it. 100% better then that dixie crapper I have. MUCH better.
I restoring one too. Its a YHRLK20 with a 23 hp Kohler that the block split. I can buy a new 30 hp Kohler cheaper then a new short block to replace the 23 hp! Over the years we had 5 Yazoos. Always did us a good job.
Great video, Great American made quality. It's a shame they don't make them like that anymore. Best mowers ever made.
