COST OF LIVING HAS WENT UP 3.4% A YEAR. 8.9% INCREASE IN COST TO MANUFACTURE. AND OBAMA NEGLECTS THE STADARD COST OF LIVING RAISE WHEN AS AGREED WITH YOUR PAY RIGHT WHEN EVEN THE PRICE OF GAS GOES UP. I agree that SS should not be cut, but why did Obama reduce the amount we are contributing by 16.7% for 2011. I think it's this short sightedness that will weaken SS. Don't stand for it.

@Zelein Obama's base didn't vote for Republicans, they have just seen how he has made all the deals with Wall Street , Big Pharma. This is not a rumor. Obama delt away single payer and even the po in back room deals. The memos were published. He put that completely bribed traitor to the people in charge of health care that gave us a health care bill written by the Heritage Foundation and the HCI itself which continued to ream people after all the stories of abuse ..

@Zelein Your comment is the equivalent of garbage in = garbage out. The Democratic losses in the midterms are a result of their choice to govern as Republicans. You can't demoralize your base and betray campaign promises without getting punished at the polls. Misdiagnosing this problem prevents you from fixing it properly.

I would also note that Obama still had majorities in both houses when he betrayed us on the tax cut deal. Deliberate choice. Not the result of GOP majority.

@donnyforte2 I've never seen a party with so many excuses for lack of courage, lack of will, and an unwillingness to fight for anything they supposedly stand for. Most of us see right through that crap. We gave Democrats a substantial majority in both houses of congress and they didn't even attempt to use it to our advantage. At some point one wakes up and recognizes that the Democrats are every bit as beholden to corporate lobbyists and campaign cash as Rethuglicans.

@nrf91 Majority doesn't mean supermajority. It's not an excuse, it's reality. When Republicans are allowed to exhaust the use of filibusters, you've got a broken system. FDR manhandled Republicans after the Great Depression and conservatives were ready this time. This isn't a fight between one ideology vs another. Republicans are out to make Obama a one term president and take the country down if necessary. This is not a one man or a majorities job.. you citizens have to demand it. Protest.

@rickbar123 The thing is, this as all much ado about nothing helping in the current crisis. It raises the age of benefit receivers thirty years from today. If the economy recuperates then this is a pointless policy change. But if your economy still ails over a generation from now you have more to worry about than old people's retirement benefits. And raising the retirement age wouldn't solve anything, either, in an economy in which not even young people can find jobs, let alone 65-year-olds...
