COST OF LIVING HAS WENT UP 3.4% A YEAR. 8.9% INCREASE IN COST TO MANUFACTURE. AND OBAMA NEGLECTS THE STADARD COST OF LIVING RAISE WHEN AS AGREED WITH YOUR PAY RIGHT WHEN EVEN THE PRICE OF GAS GOES UP. FOR INSTANCE IF A POSTAL WORKER CAN'T BUY GRASS SEED OR A RETIRED TEACHER CAN'T PAY FOR A NEW KITCHEN. THEY GET MAD.
I agree that SS should not be cut, but why did Obama reduce the amount we are contributing by 16.7% for 2011. I think it's this short sightedness that will weaken SS. Don't stand for it.
We senior citizens love you Mr President. Everyone thinks the young people elected you, they are right but we the senior citizens came out in full force for you.
If we have to ride our SCOOTERS WE WILL GET TO THE POLLS AND VOTE FOR YOU. You put us back on tract, and got us out of the hole that the Bush crew put us in. You proved you are the President of ALL people even those who wrongly take their anger out on you because they refuse to blame bush/cheney for
Obama has already broken promises .... If he breaks this promise FOR what-ever compromise he might try to use as and a excuse... I'm done with him... We need a real democrat who believes in social programs and the protection it offers it's citizens... Keep your @#$%ing hands off our social security.... FOR god sake..
@funkyflights "If he breaks this promise FOR what-ever compromise"
You can't be this politically ignorant... there's things you want done, and then there's reality. Republicans don't want another FDR and they've done everything, everything, to prevent it.
YOU CANT be that ignorant.... The money is there... STOP dipping into the pot and leave fucking Social Security alone!!! Republicans DO NOT WANT any social programs because there selfish pricks that only think about themselves.... And all this while THEY HAVE government run health care for themselves!!! BUT OH they sure preach against it don't they!! Social security is a great great programs that should be strengthened NOT weakened!! STOP fucking with our security
I hate what the americans did to themselves - having no patience and telling Obama that they want 'results' they chose to vote for the Republicans, who are the entire reason to why he was struggling in getting his health care and more through the voting system. And so, he loses even more of the chance to actually make the change USA needs, and he was forced to compromise into giving more money to the rich by cutting their taxes. Jesus, just stop screwing your own country up
@Zelein Obama's base didn't vote for Republicans, they have just seen how he has made all the deals with Wall Street , Big Pharma. This is not a rumor. Obama delt away single payer and even the po in back room deals. The memos were published. He put that completely bribed traitor to the people in charge of health care that gave us a health care bill written by the Heritage Foundation and the HCI itself which continued to ream people after all the stories of abuse ..
@Zelein Your comment is the equivalent of garbage in = garbage out. The Democratic losses in the midterms are a result of their choice to govern as Republicans. You can't demoralize your base and betray campaign promises without getting punished at the polls. Misdiagnosing this problem prevents you from fixing it properly.
I would also note that Obama still had majorities in both houses when he betrayed us on the tax cut deal. Deliberate choice. Not the result of GOP majority.
@nrf91 "I would also note that Obama still had majorities in both houses when he betrayed us on the tax cut deal. Deliberate choice. Not the result of GOP majority"
Are you implying southern democrats are... actually democrats or progressive in nature? That's a laugh. At best they're moderate. Republicans have not only set a record of filibusters, but they've misused it to cripple government all in the name of politics, not good policy... or logic.
@donnyforte2 I've never seen a party with so many excuses for lack of courage, lack of will, and an unwillingness to fight for anything they supposedly stand for. Most of us see right through that crap. We gave Democrats a substantial majority in both houses of congress and they didn't even attempt to use it to our advantage. At some point one wakes up and recognizes that the Democrats are every bit as beholden to corporate lobbyists and campaign cash as Rethuglicans.
@nrf91 Majority doesn't mean supermajority. It's not an excuse, it's reality. When Republicans are allowed to exhaust the use of filibusters, you've got a broken system. FDR manhandled Republicans after the Great Depression and conservatives were ready this time. This isn't a fight between one ideology vs another. Republicans are out to make Obama a one term president and take the country down if necessary. This is not a one man or a majorities job.. you citizens have to demand it. Protest.
The Right Wing never liked Social Security. SS was part of the New Deal. Read - The Invisible Hands by Kilen or Selling Free Enterprise by Wolf. I worry Obama will sell out to the Neo Cons.
@rickbar123 The thing is, this as all much ado about nothing helping in the current crisis. It raises the age of benefit receivers thirty years from today. If the economy recuperates then this is a pointless policy change. But if your economy still ails over a generation from now you have more to worry about than old people's retirement benefits. And raising the retirement age wouldn't solve anything, either, in an economy in which not even young people can find jobs, let alone 65-year-olds...
@OolTube02 Once it is privatized the banks will pocket it and make it into a for profit arrangement . They will skim it till there is nothing and people will be left with nothing. There is zero chance they want to do anything but steal it. NONE
@Textynn In fact if social security really did run a deficit the banks wouldn't want anything to do with it. It's because there's a trillions of dollars surplus that the issue of privatization is brought up at all. It's the last big piggy bank that hasn't been raided yet by financial institutions.
@rickbar123 "Worried that he 'will'"? He *has*! This is the implementation of Obama's Simpson-Bowles report--the plan even the Cat Food Commission couldn't support and its co-chairs had to stitch together illegitimately afterward. I'm not a teabagger, I WORKED for Obama and I SO wish I hadn't . You need to understand: This stuff is COMING from Obama. THIS IS WHAT HE WANTS: These are HIS proposals and what HE is endorsing. This is really dire. We've GOT to cut our ties & primary him
This person does not understand what adjust the CAP means. Do you r homework.

@funkyflights When did I bring up "taking away Social Security because we don't have the money"? I know it's paid for.

Well then explain to me what you mean.... Because you have me confused... ARE YOU FOR IT... or against it ?

@funkyflights Re-read my first reply and the quote I responded too. I never mentioned Social Security.
