The reason why you think all covers are bad is because you are loyal to the orignal artist, its really nothing to do with how well they played

its to do with the original artist getting the sound for it usually

if a band makes a song they know how they want it to sound and can get it that way

other bands have to work around it to make it sound different enough

although covers i cant stand include amy whinehouse doing valerie, i was against that completely!!!!

mcfly did a cover of i kissed a girl really well though!!!

Well yeh, Amy Winehouse's cover was terrible, but you can blame Ronson for that. Generally covers are disliked as they arent well rehearsed, hard to reproduce corectly, and most of all live!
