To me, King Crimson was at its peak with Fripp, Wetton, Bruford, and Cross. Not that Red was any worse than Starless and Larks'. But that trio of albums was simply their best work, in my opinion.
Shame about the sound quality - regardless - the unusual combination of the extremely distinct personality types in this band ( Belew & Fripp are from different planets ) multiplied by their incredible talents, created an stunningly fantastic band with an extremely unique sound, still one of the best bands I've ever heard - yes - as to what kind of music this is exactly, I have no bloody idea: damn good though.
Mr. Fripp is really the epicenter of KC. All of his KC Projeckts (with theiir different musician players) are differents kind of expression by this genious
@busteraperture So many bands look to King Crimson... Primus, Tool, Faith No More... I'm sure there are countless others that look up to King Crimson or derive their sound from them.
@punkmusicmetal Some bands are heavily influenced by King Crimson. No disputing that. Primus, however, persistently replicates this sound. Indubitably. Also, I feel like I'm watching Les Claypool perform here. Primus is talented, but I've lost a lot of respect for them after witnessing this. To base your whole sound and musical performance on another band's is evidence of a lack of creativity. Borrowing a pinch of someone else's brand is one thing, plagiarism is quite another.
@busteraperture ...? Please, provide examples of specific Primus songs if you're going to make such a huge accusation of "plagiarism" (which is fucking hilarious by the way). Primus was influenced by Rush/Zappa/The Residents more than King Crimson regardless. As a band, they really sound nothing like King Crimson.
If you're going to attribute Jerry Was A Race Car Driver/DMV tapping to "plagiarizing" Tony Levin, then you're accusing anyone who's ever tapped on a bass of doing the same.
@Steve9842007 To be honest with you, I just don't like Primus. They sound like cartoon music. Les Claypool can't sing, he writes what I believe are meant to be humorous lyrics, but fails, and he rips off Adrian Belew consistently. Bad-ass bass player, yes. Original, no. Larry Lelong needs to hook up with a band more deserving of his talents. And I don't need to give specific examples. The proof is in the pudding. Look up at the video.
@busteraperture I'm just not even going to respond to you anymore. That's an incredibly idiotic statement. You're really saying that Bob, DMV, Over The Electric Grapevine, Tweekers, Del Davis, etc etc etc, sounds EXACTLY like Elephant Talk, which just shows you don't know what you're talking about at all. It's cool to not like Primus, they're not everyone's cup of tea, but to say baseless, unsupported accusations is just fucking stupid. Also fail to see the Belew thing you mentioned.
@Steve9842007 In essence, yes I am saying that all of those songs you mentioned, and all the rest of them, sound like Elephant Talk. IN ESSENCE. I'm not saying they are all called Elephant Talk, and contain the same lyrics and music. You shouldn't get so defensive when someone calls out some music that you like for what it is. You should have an open mind and accept the true nature of the thing. The profound experiences you have had while listening to Primus were-and still are-a farce. Amen.

Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Bill Bruford are the quintessential King Crimson line-up.
They've had many members over the years, broke up and came back with new line-ups and members. But to me at least, THIS IS KING CRIMSON!

@Lalo3001 The original 1969 line-up is the quintessential KC IMHO but this is the probably the most consistently good KC line-up
